The top six are all avoiding each other this weekend and I would expect all six to pick up maximum points......so no change at the top with one more game ticked off.
Didn't see our defeat at Corinthian back in November when, it seems, we were far from our best. No doubt we will be out to put that right to ensure we go into next week's big game at Cray on a high.
It could be entertaining if Corinthian's county cup against Ashford on Tuesday is anything to go by......a game in which there were almost as many goals as supporters !!
We did go Mick, needed Sat Nav,Atlas, a Sextant and Star Navigation just to find the place. No refreshment or toilet facilities inside the ground . We were far from our best but Corinthians tactics were far from corinthian. Will be interesting to see the reception their No.5 gets. Must get three points and hope that we don’t go there next season.
Given than Corinthian isn't actually a place I can't understand why we have two 'Corinthian' football teams. I think the original Corinthian Casuals were 'created' as an amateur team who were required to play in the Corinthian spirit.
Why and where the new Corinthian team in our league was created I have no idea.
Any ideas , Phil ?
History not the greatest but I think the original Corinthian, whose colours are I think Chocolate and Pink were set up many years ago ,possibly Edwardian times , and the idea was to play with the Corinthian spirit, play fair, no bad tackles , applaud the opposition on and off the field etc. I think at one time they played the Brazilian national side on a tour of South America . The team we play are from Fawkham ,near Brands Hatch , and I believe we’re set up by a local farmer with the same ideals, which I did not feel were evident on our visit. Looking forward to tomorrow.
Like Phil I suffered from the Corinthian experience earlier in the season. Managed to get lost to and from the ground and saw us suffer the indignity of conceding a penalty from the kick off without, as I recall, a Corinthian player touching the ball. Fortunately the resulting kick made Lenny Pidgely's effort look half decent. From our point of view the rest of the match was dire, for which l blamed Sam Collins's presence, but was a useful dress rehearsal for Corinthian for their approaching pantomime diving and wingeing festival. Lead performer identified by Phil was their no 5, who is, I think, Sam Billings' brother. He has a good future on the stage. All games are important for us now but I hope we are in top form tomorrow and record a sizeable win. And, of course, it would be nice to see their number 5 get his well- deserved red card.
My early recollections of the club was that they formed a guard of honour to applaud the opposition onto the pitch.Does this still happen. To be cautioned then was unforgivable. At the time the owner I believe had three family members playing. I found it cheaper to buy a train set to keep my kids amused rather than finding a football team. It is impressive that the family has produced so many footballers
Excellent 3-0 win should have been many more but for the oppo keeper who also looked a bit dodgy excellent performance 8 to go bring on cray who lost today COYUS
First of all congratulations to Carley Fellows on winning the 50/50 with ticket 2475 prize £206 one of the highest this season .Also apologies to anybody who could not buy a programme ,we ran out. The club tries to calculate the number required but got it wrong today. One again apologies.
As for the game Hastings United 2019 got it right, could have had 5 or 6 in the first half. Game not so exciting in the second half but felt we were comfortable winners. Ben awarded man of the match , but thought Knorry Scott avery close runner up.
yes, 8 to go, and I think with a performance like today, we are all but there, very solid work all round, but to mention a couple, Knorry was on fire, every time he got the ball you had a feeling that something was going to happen, good to see Ollie back and he did really well, and made some important tackles. But we should not leave anyone out, they all played really well and looked like a champion wining team. Thanks to Gary and all the team for making this season one to remember. the football is exciting to watch again! "we`re nearly there"
Thought the first half performance was the best 45 minutes we have produced all season. Absolutely bombarded our opponents who must have been relieved to go in two down rather than five down. Best performance I have seen from Knorry who, along with Tom, made their number three wish he had stayed at home with a jigsaw puzzle.
In contrast, Danny Parish had a relatively quiet first half but still produced a moment of true quality to serve Ben up with a classic second goal. He is going to be a quality signing.
Never quite reached the same degree of intensity in the second half but still very comfortable winners against one of the league's better sides. Ben was the inevitable MotM but, on another day when he didn't get a hat-trick, there were plenty of others with a claim !
Fantastic support today producing a hostile and intimidating atmosphere for our opponents.
Nothing wrong with that !
Just to go back to my original post/prediction.....what a bonus that Cray were beaten by Three Bridges today.....and an even bigger surprise was Herne Bay's late defeat at Sevenoaks.
What it does prove is that you can't take any result for granted.
Enjoyable afternoon at the Pilot Field -again! Supporters being spoilt this season. Great to see Knorry developing into a top player and Kane Penn fits in seemlessly into midfield or defence. Strange bunch the few Corinthian supporters who were there. Thought Hastings were time wasting in the second half as if we needed to worry about a Corinthian come back with Finn and Craig at the back.
Totally agree with all the positive comments above. Without in any way wishing to detract from that - and from what in the end was a comfortable win - we did let matters slip for at least 20 minutes or so of the second half. Corinthian were not a bad side. With better finishing (indeed any sort of finishing which didn't involve putting the ball over the stand) they might have taken the opportunity to put us under pressure. In the event we got our act back together and after the penalty which led to our and Ben Pope's third we looked once more in control.
Gary has said that he wants us to be 90 minute side. I think the way he uses substitutes is already helping us move in the right direction, but still room for improvement.
Yes agree with Geoff. We lost control of the game at the start of the second half and I was relieved Corinthian didn't make more of a couple of opportunities to make it 2:1.
