Well you got the score right Hastings United 2019. Thought we deserved to win although last 10 minutes was squeaky bum time. Sam Adams deserved Man of the Match and think he is probably in his best form for years.
Congratulations to our supporter who won £147.50 with ticket 35432. For the many , many of you that are asking about Matchday Programmes.....have made representations to Billy and hopefully will have one at the next game.
Given that VCD had a 100% record before today's game I think we can be encouraged regarding our chances of promotion after this performance. OK, the game wasn't a classic in terms of exciting goal mouth action but if every half chance had been taken we would probably have won about 6-1. VCD's main threat seemed to come from loading long high balls on top of Louis and then their grumpy number nine bundling him into the goal.
Very subtle.
Plenty of good performances today. Defensively we were very solid and Sammy and Ryan were outstanding. I also think Jake brings us a genuine offensive threat that we lack without him. I really want Ben to get on the scoresheet as soon as possible. I'm sure when he gets one, the goals will start flowing.
As I say, not a classic but a good win against a strong side.
Mick, think their no 9 played for Tooting & Mitcham in the play off final so is probably still sulking. Thought we played well for most of the game but lost control of the match in the last 10 minutes. Could have cost us 2 points.
Excellent until the last ten minutes heads dropped after their goal thought their number 9 deserved a second yellow for the language he used towards the ref bad losers 😂😂😂
Not related to the football but what was that quite awful music that was played to welcome the Us onto the pitch today ? I appreciate the sound system wasn't good today (water damage after the heavy rain, I hear) but the music played was truly dreadful. I am not insisting on the popular 'Sussex by the Sea' but if we are going to move away from that particular tradition then we need to replace it with something equally well known and rousing, not today's dirge.
Agree with the comments above. We really should have had the game wrapped up by half time. Mick is right - had chances been taken we would have won by a handsome margin. But Ben Pope in particular has yet to find his scoring touch and we did indeed lose control of the game in the last 10 minutes or so; and I'm sure VCD will have thought they should have snatched a point.
Sam Adams was exceptional. He covered a huge amount of ground. Excellent from him, from Ryan too and from Jake. Credit to Louis for keeping one out with his face and for keeping going despite the resultant discomfort, the sun in his eyes in the second half and the constant aggresssive attentions of their number 9.
It's far too early to talk of six pointers, but had we lost to VCD we would have been ten points behind them which with four games played would not have been good news at all.
Mick
I am curious that the rebranding that saw Sussex by the Sea dropped, hasn’t been debated before. Perhaps it’s just us oldies that we’re concerned, but I did not want to seem negative. I am sure that more recent supporters are less wedded to these issues.
As you allude there is a process issue to consider, mirroring the badge change earlier on in the season.
What surprises me is that the excellent podcast, which I would strongly recommend.is called Sussex by the Sea
Bit of brand confusion?
Mick, it’s called Sirius and it’s by the Alan Parsons Project. The Chicago Bulls used it as their ‘walk-on’ music, and it works brilliantly indoors. I don’t think it does for us. Basically what’s happened is someone has watched the Bulls / Michael Jordan documentary The Last Dance during lockdown and decided it would work for us. I’m all for trying new things but I just don’t think it works for non-league football.
Thank you for identifying the music. With the help of Spotify I have at least now heard a good quality recording of it. I appreciate that music is very subjective but I personally don't think this is right for the club and it certainly won't be known by the vast majority of supporters. Surely the walk on music needs to be easily recognisable, rousing and singable and if it can relate to the location in any way then that's a bonus. When performed at the Amex, 'Sussex-by-the-Sea' ticks all those boxes, probably only surpassed by the Hibs' fans rendition of 'Sunshine on Leith'. Not sure Sirius ticks any boxes. It is clearly difficult to find something suitable without very obviously plagiarising someone else's idea and this does rather feel like change for the sake of change. Roger mentions rebranding and this, along with the badge change, seems to be all about 'bringing the club up-to-date'. However, I think it's a pity that this rebranding is dissociating the club from our historic town.
podcast is a fans one i have no links with the club ...fellas/ladies, would love to have some of you on to discuss this if any on this forum are interested...podcast is for all us U's Lovers 😁
Saturday certainly was not an exciting one for me, although I thought we thoroughly deserved the win. Superbly taken first goal. Thought Ollie was outstanding throughout the entire game. Never seen Louis have more touches of the ball than any other player on the field in the first 10 minutes (just an estimate). I was getting rather agitated that I was having much more fun listening to the three people sitting behind me talking about Hastings past and present along with many other things, although one of them did start to celebrate a little bit over the top when TC scored and nearly deafened me. Thought the referee had a good game until the end but regardless of which, we got a very good result. Thought Louis's save towards the end was fabulous and imagine what the score would have been had that gone in. Would like to see Lloyd Dawes feature a bit more as I have not seen much of him and feel he'll be handy when he does start.

Think we all would, Chris included: he was talking about him as being potentially the best player in the division in his interview on the podcast. He's been and still is injured, unless I'm mistaken.
