Sad news 🙏"

Hastings United were saddened to learn of the passing of former player and manager, Joe White, who passed away on 22nd February.

Joe, who was a powerful centre forward who played for Hastings United in the early 1960’s, was known for his formidable heading ability whilst leading the line for the U's.

Joe also represented Hollington United, Rye, Sidley, Bexhill and Ashford throughout his senior playing career before going on to manage our club, Hastings Town in the mid 1980’s.

The White family history at the football club is vast with Joe’s father William representing the club in the 1920’s (known as Rock N Nore), two of Joe's sons, Dean & Glyn, have both played for the football club with Dean our current Director of Football managing the club between 1992-95 and again 1997-2000, whilst Glyn has overseen much of the club’s academy progress over the past 6 years.

Ben White, Joe’s grandson has represented the club and most recently his 16 year old great grandson Will White, made his debut for the First Team away to Chichester City in the Velocity Sports Trophy this season.

Joe is also the uncle of the club’s all time record appearance and goalscorer, Terry White.

Whilst the club were informed of Joe’s passing earlier, we respected the families wishes and private time before posting this tribute to a club and local football legend.

We will be holding a minutes applause before the kick off of today's game against Whitstable with many of Joe's
close family attending the game as guests of the club.

Joe’s funeral will take place on Tuesday 24th March at 11:45am at the Hastings Crematorium followed by the wake at Hastings United Sports and Social Club at 1pm.

The family have requested that any donations be made to The Brown Bread Horse Rescue Centre in Battle.  "" RIP Joe, 🙏

Personified in 1962\63 season in home game against Sittingbourne.
Had gash to head and departed for stitches, only to return in Terry Butcher style headbandage
A real Lionheart
