A very very flat performance today from Hastings against a pretty average looking Ashford who spent most of the game time wasting and writhing around on the floor. They really were dreadful. Hastings barely made a chance over the 90mins, the best and only real chance falling to Daniel when one on one with the keeper. Pope made a huge difference when he came on late in the game with both Rodari and Azeez totally ineffective over the 90mins. Not much else to report as a really poor game but Hastings should put this behind them quickly and be extremely proud of the start they have made. Still believe Hastings are the team to beat and would be very surprised if Ashford are competing for top spot come end of season.
I thought it was one of our worst performances of the season. It got better in the second half but there was no creativity and our normally rampant forwards were dining off scraps throughout the game. Ben made a difference but Aggy had changed the formation and we should have equalised in the last quarter of an hour that had eight mins of added time. Only good news is that Cray Valley lost.
Never really got going in first half, better in second half.Ashford players fell over at every opportunity.
On a positive note bought all our Christmas Meat at a reasonable price.
agree with all above . Not the best day. Ashford wasted so much time. We probably deserved a draw at best, bur first defeat of season. first league defeat in more than 25 games. Still been a great season. Keep going boys
First league loss in mid December. We just do what Cray did last season and put it behind us. It was one of those days. We were worth a draw but in somewhat of a contrast to Chichester last weekend when everything went our way - today nothing did.
Ashford didn't look as good as they did last season but hats off to their 6 - well played fella. As for us, Herne Bay visit the PF on Friday evening so let's put today right - and avenge the 4-1 pasting they gave us at their place last season.
Hope all the Ashford injuries they apparently suffered are fixed.
In a disappointing match, not helped by the poor artificial pitch, thought Ashford did a very good job on stopping Hastings playing. They got the ball forward quicker than us and prevented our midfield players from having much influence in the game. Their goal came from a great cross that , either by accident or design, picked out our smallest member of the back 4. Never really saw our front 3 for much of the game, especially in the first half. We nearly got an equaliser in the second half when Ben Pope was causing the Ashford defenders some problem-just needed Daniel to have got round the outstretched leg of Sam Mott. Missed Adam Lovatt today. Hope we get back to our best next week when we will need a few of our players, so anonymous today, to have an influence on the game.
I don’t want to make excuses after a lacklustre display but Ashford's plastic pitch is nearly as bad as Whyteleaf’s. When a player like Daniel struggles to control the ball it makes me wonder if there is a connection. Having seen what a well maintained artificial pitch, I am referring to Lancing, I don’t see why they can’t all be like it. I think any team proposing to change to plastic should have to provide a comprehensive maintenance programme and proof that it will be carried out before permission is granted.
