That was terrific game between two evenly matched teams and the story of our season so far. Dominated possession, missed a load of chances and then hung on for the last 10 and escaped with a point with almost the last kick of the game....now where have I heard that before?
Be a new looking Hythe team we face on Saturday as the new manager continues to build his own team
Hythe add two on loan........
The club are pleased to announce two loan signings. Darren Oldaker and Henry Arnold both from Gillingham. Both made their debut’s last Tuesday evening in the home game against Herne Bay.
Manager Sam Denly says “Really pleased to welcome Darren and Henry to the club on a month’s loan, Darren is an exceptional talent and having already made appearances for Gillingham first team shows the calibre of player we have, you will do well to find a better mid fielder in the league so it’s great to secure his services. Henry is an academy lad at Gillingham and another exciting prospect who will also come into the squad for a loan spell, I would like to welcome them both to the club and look forward to working with them.
I didn't see our second penalty as I walked out when Hythe got there third. Very disappointing result, if only we had scored our first pen things may of been different! That penalty reminded me of last season play off. He had a pidge moment!!!
Hythe three attempts all match, three goals, Hastings a dozen plus, and two goals, one a dodgy penalty. This is becoming a real concern for Hastings now. Keep hearing about all these players that want to join us so let’s hope somewhere there is a top striker that’s wants to join because my god do we need one.
I thought apart from the excellent number 8 Hythe looked pretty limited, happy to play a very direct game and an awful lot of long ball football. Pretty ugly to watch but certainly effective and did a real number on Hastings. They certainly scored three excellent goals but just didn’t think we got at their back four enough second half, who looked shaky all match. Callum yet again was left isolated for much of the game and Hythe did a good job on Rodari Second half as he was excellent in the first.
Losing our influential skipper early on certainly didn’t help, especially as the equally ineffective Ansu did nothing, but what else can Chris do, he just has nothing on the bench to change a game. Where was Antonio? Where is Vickers? Where is Cole? I guess all we can be sure of now is that the play offs are well and truly gone.
One thing I totally agree with John (not that I don`t agree with everything in your post) is, we are not going to get into the playoffs, but to be fair, we don`t deserve to.
John said it all. I am a big fan of Ansu but today he was a big dissapointment and I was surprised he lasted the game. He needs to sort himself out especially if Sam is out for a long time.
Great entertainment for the end of the game but once again showed up the lack of talent... nothing upfront to come on and make a difference ..
Why we didn’t push Sam Crutwell up and bring on Tom Climpson when Sammy went off .. hope he’s ok , limped pitch at the end .Ansu didn’t inspire me , Davide gets better and better
We have been qoute ‘ 2 players away from playoff ‘ all season , we just lack that bit of magic up front like a Billy Medlock , Franny Collin
Thought we would go on all night , was thinking of sky plusing the boxing at one point ...
The referee had a ‘difficult’ game , where have we seen him before ??
A very disappointing outcome to what was certainly a game full of incident. For me the crucial events were early on when we lost Sam Adams to injury going for a ball he had to challenge for. That unbalanced the side and although we put on a good display for the rest of the first half the early forced substitution exposed the weakness of the bench. As others have said, we simply had no attacking options left.
The referee's performance was .....well, I'm searcing for an appropriate word. Suffice it to say that leaving both sets of players and supporters exasperated is an achievement of some distinction. I had a perfect view of the challenge by the Hythe number 5 early in the first half and I have no doubt it was as clear a straight red card as anyone is likely to see. But even had that decision gone the way it should, I can't maintain that that would inevitably have turned the game in our favour. The shortcomings that others have noted would still have been all too present.
So yes, hopes of play-offs are now over and the pre-season 2018 /19 now starts in earnest.
Interesting game at the Pilot Field. Hythe looked dangerous at the start and could have gone 2-0 up after a brilliant break from a Hastings corner. But for the majority of the rest of the game Hastings were on top without ever looking convincing in front of goal. Agree with John about their no ne of their Gillingham loan players? Certainly a match Hastings shouldn't have lost.
Such a shame Chris has been unable to adress the issues up top and our poor finishing or bring in some help for Calllum. Just 3 wins from our last 8 games and we could and should have won seven of those. That would have given us another 10 points and would have put just a couple behind Greenwich. It does worry me a little that these same problems have been ongoing now for two months and appear to be getting worse. We cannot keep blaming age and experience. Are these same players honestly going to improve that much between now and next August to get us into the top two next season. Have a lot of faith in Chris and if anyone can he can but he certainly needs some quality signings between now and then.
Sadly John , didn’t we all honestly sigh when the stance of youth only and no season only signings or journeymen was announced in a statement by our then new manager which personally I thought had been written by the board rather from his own opinion ... within 8 weeks he was on the move .. did he really believe it
Then after his quick departure , chris has done so well with this stance and clearly the youth have devolved ... but here we are again awaiting any signing we can find to hang on for a chance in a play off situation that frankly we have no chance in achieving . I went on holiday , missed a new messiah of a striker who scored , got injured and then played a stinker ... now gone ... never saw the bloke ! .... 2 apparantly brilliant Bromley players .... who ??? .. gone in a flash
We have lost Medlock , Pogue once top scorer of the division came and gone and wasted in county . ... we are now left with no effective replacements up front and to be honest our best midfield is Sam Adams clearly not in his youthful years anymore
We are back to where we were ... yes I am not knocking Chris and the youth policy which has worked ... but in all honestly that pee season statement was worthless as we are still
Apparantly ‘2 players ‘ away
I am 100% behind the board and the club , it’s been enjoyable although last year was totally amazing we have still had a good journey this year . But ... yes we are setting up for next season I appreciate that ... but let’s be honest we are paddling in the same big ocean looking for land once again
It’s all very difficult for the club at the moment, until we know for certain if we are moving or staying at the PF it must be difficult for the board, as if we are staying then large sums of money will be needed. So to pay a striker vast sums is just not feasible, and with this cloud hanging over us, can we afford the increased wages of the next league. Sadly until the future of the club is decided we have to accept our lot. Yes a top striker would be nice and we would probably have an a lot more points but at what cost?

Thought the half hour of increasingly relentless pressure before half-time was tremendous, especially given the position after fifteen minutes: one down to a well-taken goal, barely in the game, captain limping off. To turn the game around completely, in momentum if not in scoreline, showed real maturity, composure and character. In contrast to last week, they got the ball moving quickly and positively, made the opposition chase, played to their strengths. It really deserved a goal, that. Didn't get one, not for the first time.
We could've done without half-time and the second half never had that rhythm. The spark had gone even before Hythe scored their second, and I suspect the remainder would've been rather bleak had it not been for the antics of the officials livening it all up. By the end, the referee had lost the plot so totally I wouldn't have been surprised if he'd started booking people in the crowd.
For me, the player that's missing is someone to use the space behind Callum Davies. He does a fantastic job of stretching the game - their number five was dropping about ten yards as soon as there was the faintest hint of a forward ball, so terrified was he of Davies' pace in behind him - but we're not using that as well as we might. Stick the right player in there and they'd have a field day: there was a moment in the first half, for example, where Ansu Janneh was on his heels as a second ball dropped when someone with their wits about them would've been pouncing on it and driving into the box. That player gets you twenty goals or more next season, if you can find and sign them. (Big 'if' that, obviously!)
