After the first defeat since a lot of games against leaders Lewes we are now against
Herne are curently the number 11 in the League; played 25 and received 36 points. Scored 48 and conceded 50 goals.
Top scorer: Emberry with 11 goals.
Hope this game will have a different outcome then our home game: https://www.hastingsobserver.co.uk/sport/football/local/united-see-2-0-lead-turn-into-4-2-loss-1-8158194
Herne Bay play at: The Altira Park Stadium ( Former known as Winch's Field), Stanley Gardens, Herne Bay
And we? Of course losing against the leaders is not a shame but think more how will the team react on it? Herne Bay won only the last home game ( Faversham 3-1) and lost 2 and drew 3 of the 5 home games before.
Our home game against Herne Bay was a bit of a nightmare and was a sign that promotion was not a realistic proposition for this season. After the set back against Lewes this is a good opportunity to start a good run of results leading in to 2018. Is that right winger still playing for Herne Bay????
It won’t be Hastings old boy Danny Leonard that Tim is talking about. They tore us apart at the Pilot Field with two wingers. Nassim Dukali played left wing and is still playing whilst Alex Mulrooney Skinner played down the right but has been missing for the past month. Jono Richardson also plays for them. In a tight, even league, Herne Bay are the best team I have seen at the Pilot Field this Season.
Hope our boys have the correct footwear today, it’s going to be heavy going. Can’t make myself, got a touch of Dehli-belly, I’ll be cheering them on from home.

We went from one extreme to the other at home to them and by the end, everything they tried came off. Be nice to put that right. I shall have to follow it from work. Be lucky boys.
great performance don't know where you would have put 7 players with flu in there apart from golding pretty much the usual team so well done to the boys getting stronger with each game.
What a fantastic display from the boys today. In fact I would put it right up there with anything I have seen over the past few seasons including Darren Hare’s team when they were at their peak. We dominated from the first to the last minute and if you could make any criticism it was that we didn’t win by eight or Nine, we were that dominant. We hit the woodwork three times, one of the line and at least ten saves from the home keeper including two worldies. Despite all the pull outs and only two subs to pick from, the team looked full of energy, with great movement of the ball and great ball retention. There were times when it actually became pretty embarrassing for Herne Bay but great for us supporters. Difficult to pick out any players as all were fantastic but particular praise for the two Sam’s, Ansu and Callum plus another super display from young Tom. And finally a word for Rodari. i think he’s been pretty average this season and for the first 40mins today kept getting caught offside, giving the ball away and took a very poor penalty. But just before half time he won a second penalty and despite a lot of supporters and players dismayed at him taking another, he showed no hesitation in taking the ball and sticking it in the corner. That one moment told me a lot about him as an individual as it showed real balls and character to do that so fair play to him for not hiding away and that one moment could be the making of him.
So a really top top performance today from all and now the test is can we do it two games in a row against East Grinstead on Monday and then do it again against one of the top six, against Greenwich on Saturday. Very well done to all.
Bang on report from John, nothing to add apart from
Danny Leonard (11) .. what on earth has happened to him ... looked lost and nothing like the exciting player we had on loan last year
Ben Hunter (gk) .. whilst he was getting praise , I found him a bit dodgy at times , not sure 6 footers make good keepers , a bit gangly at times
Roderi !! ... even I wanted him to get a 3rd ... took a load of Bollocks to take the penalty again ... he would of never recovered if he missed the second attempt . Is he just getting it now ?? Is it a time thing ?? ... he has had 2 good games ... I really hope he is !!
They were not good ... we should of been 6 nil up but we made hard work of it whilst they were down to 10 men...even their supporters were saying they would not score after we went 1 nil up . They looked nothing like the team that ran us ragged at the Pilot field ‘ Saying that for a team with 7 missing , we were great today
A last note of appreciation of the support after all the nonsense at Lewes last week. Great friendly atmosphere and great banter at both ends . Even vocal bantering beteen us , our ‘creative’ drummer ‘singing and banging about Kent Caravans ‘caused no problems and the game went off with proper control and discipline
Although Herne Bay not as good as that which played at the Pilot Field we were excellent. When we heard that 7 players plus Steve had gone down with the lurgy we feared the worst. But how wrong we were , as John said we totally dominated from start to finish and but for their keeper ,who was man of the match ,we could have had 8 . Every single player put in a shift but my Man of the Match was Sam Beale. Looking forward to Monday.
If it really is flu then I would question the club as for £100 the whole squad could have been vaccinated. I know a few teams have done this in the past.
Think Tom needs games (90 mins) and he’s not likely to get in at present. Ollie likewise and think he’s a long way off the standard of the other youngsters plus he has a certain Sam Beale in front of him. I understand Bradley was having flu injections as the club could only afford a tenner
Chris, as an old bloke who has the flu jab every year I was told that it does not stop you getting it but reduces the effects. Most of those who went down with it yesterday were on the bench at Lewes, probably gave it to one another.
