Come along and support the U’s this afternoon. Avoid all the Christmas shopping, it will be manic. No need to watch the telly either , it’s only Frozen or Harry Potter. Don’t forget the Christmas Matchday Programme or your 50/50 tickets. Should be a good game.
What an amazing game. After 25 minutes we really should have been four or five down and yet 20 minutes later we go in at half time 3-2 up after three magnificent goals in our only three chances of the half. Second half saw an improvement in our performance and chances created but Ramsgate will wonder how they came away with nothing.
For the first time in a long time today the back four looked really shaky throughout not helped by the those in front constantly losing possession but as an attacking force we looked deadly on the break throughout and what character from the team after that dreadful start. Golding will deservedly take all the plaudits today after two magnificent finishes but my MOM was young Callum up top who absolutely ran himself into the ground through the 90.
So ten league games unbeaten now and huge credit has to go to the management team. There is no doubt we have had some huge amounts of luck on the way but you make your own luck and the team look very fit and very hungry. We have made some very decent signings and slowly but surely, we are improving, probably quicker than even the manager thought we would. Now for the teams biggest test to date and a visit to Lewes on Boxing Day. It wasn’t pretty at times but well done to all today for some real character.
Enjoyable game at the Pilot Field. Hastings started terribly and were lucky not to go 4-0 down. Ramsgate pushed right up on Hastings and created chaos and confusion in the Hastings defence. However, it did make Hastings play the ball forward and abandon their aimless passing around their back 4. Great finishing from Dayshonne and Calum gave Hastings a slightly undeserved 3-2 lead at half-time. Ramsgate's energy levels and fluency disappeared in the second half with Hastings being mostly in control. Well done to both teams for providing great entertainment.
What a mad, marvellous game of football. Ramsgate began as if they'd been fed on nothing but raw meat and Red Bull for a fortnight, a tempo that they couldn't possibly sustain but that might've seen them out of sight within ten minutes. Such intensity; they completely blew us away.
As the visitors' second goal went in, you could see the team reaching a crossroads. In those circumstances, where you're looking at a right old hiding, you can easily lose your heads, forget the game-plan, start making rash decisions and wave goodbye to any hope of getting back into it. For a couple of minutes, that looked the most likely course, as the crowd turned, the ball started to go aimlessly long, tackles became heated, and so on.
But the other road is that you keep your composure, do the basics properly, get a foothold in the game, and take it from there, one step at a time. As against Whyteleafe, that takes character and determination. Gradually, they found their feet and gradually, Ramsgate lost momentum. It still needed a good dollop of luck...and an absolutely stunning reflex save from Horlock immediately before (I think) the equaliser which was really the turning point of the entire match. That goes in, and the comeback is dead in the water. It doesn't, it isn't, and the rest is thrilling.
Very much agree with all of the above. Above all, as Tim says, this was great entertainment from both sides. Of course, there were mistakes a plenty but a considerable amount of skill was on display. And passion too, with the Ramsgate (assistant?) manager deserving a particular mention for his bravura performance of elation through anxiety to frustration and ultimate despair. Surely a theatrical career awaits?
Just like to say that Davide Roderi played well today and deserved that unlucky chance when he hit the bar ... his play and movement was really good and I have criticised him before but fair play .. was good today
I went on about Tom Chapman before the game and didn’t he rain terror on the Hastings defence ... but the team really showed character in the cone back
Great to see Sam Cole finally after the long lay off ...
Also finally .. has Tom Vickers been on the Slim Fast ( other diet products are avaliable folks !!) ??
He looks amazing , really fit and slim .... I was really jealous and full of praise as I stuffed down my half time chips 😳
Well done boys. I rolled up full of lurgy and as I inched my way round to the far end, watched us go 2 down and wondered what I'd let myself in for. Yes, we had plenty of luck and Ramsgate will still be shaking their heads at the result - but the U's worked their way back into it and turned it all around. Good to see Sam Cole back and well done Calum for ending his goal drought.
