And we? Happy about 1 point against bottomclub Shoreham. Despite some good performances from a few youngsters it is obvious then not only the standard of play has to go upwards very soon but also we need points to get out out the bottom of the table.
Cray is the team who is clearly in a flow, let's hope somehow we can stop that.
Well, for 45minutes tonight I got my first tinge of excitement watching Hastings this season. Thought we did pretty well first half against a really decent Cray team and played some decent football. Thought Dajon was excellent again and worked his socks off whilst young Davis did well up front and took his goal superbly. Whilst at the other end Charlie was superb again and just gets better every game. Better than Pidge and Pelling from what I have seen and that is high praise.
But then 2nd half we came out and just looked like we were settling for a point from the first minute. Like games before we just got deeper and deeper and just had no attacking threat whatsoever and our first attempt at goal came in about the 85th minute from the excellent Crutts. To be fair I did hear Aggy shouting at the team to get up but it never really happened. But putting that negative to one side I thought the effort and energy was spot on and defensively I thought we were superb. I was really worried seeing Climpson up against their pacey strikers but he did superb as did the entire back four in front of Charlie. Ansu was again a little bit up and down but I really do see something in him whilst Rodari struggled once again in centre midfield today and I'm not sure how he is warranting a starting place at the minute. And poor old 16. We will put it down to first night nerves but think he touched it 10 times and gave it away 10 times. But minor things , a great improvement on Saturday, superb effort from all and for me the first steps in the right direction. We now must build on this and beat Ashford on Saturday. Decent performance!!
1-1 at end. A good first twenty minutes or so in the first half with some very good moments. Sadly, those became fewer as the game went on; and we reverted to sitting back, losing possession and hitting ineffective long balls. Charlie Horlock was MoM by a mile over the 90 minutes. Cray will be kicking themselves for failing to get the three points.
But at least we could see new ideas and considerable potential in the new players. So it's not all doom and gloom!
