AGUTTER CONFIRMS WHYBOURNE AS FIRST SIGNING!

The Club is pleased to announce the signing of former captain Rhys Whybourne.

Rhys, 31, has played over 150 games for the Club and was a big part of the team in the 2006/7 promotion winning campaign.

A commanding and composed central defender who is a popular figure with supporters is a welcome addition to the existing squad.

Whybourne said " I have been training with the development squad for a couple of weeks and have been really impressed with how professional the Club has become since the last period I was here"

"Chris spoke to me on Friday and was very positive about the future and that is something I want to be part of , I can't wait to get started and help the Club push on this season"

Manager Chris Agutter said

"Rhys is exactly the type of player and character that we want at the Club. In terms of ability and stature he is a Bostik Premier centre back at the very least, he brings a wealth of experience and will be considered for selection immediately. We will be looking to bring in 2 or 3 more new faces to improve the balance of the squad over the next few weeks".

No so, he was out of football for a while and has been playing in lower leagues until this season. I saw him play for the development squad and he looked in good nick and seems fit to play.
Great to have a good player and nice bloke back at the club.

He's been playing down in the East Sussex leagues. Was a great prospect when he was younger but got shipped out by Dolby 8 years or so ago due to lack of confidence and never ever did reach his potential or those levels again. As we have already seen this season, big difference between looking good for a development squad and playing Bostik South. Hope he does well but pretty underwhelmed by the signing again.

I know what we are trying to achieve with all these local lads but these are all players that have played once or twice for the club in the past and failed to get us promoted. What makes us think now they are all in their 30s it will be any different? Just cannot see how these players are going to get us out of the league and now we have announced overnight that it is now a two year promotion plan rather than one, are they going to improve next season at this stage of their carrers? Unless of course they have been signed to "educate" the youngsters.

Hear we have put in a cheeky bid for Ernie Batten from Sheppey to lead the line and educate. Now that guy could find the net. Stafford Browne next?

Well sure he’s certainly gonna find it a big step up at least after so many years at a much lower level, hope it’s just like riding a bike for him and he hits form in this league again quickly especially if he’s going to be partnering Rowe soon. Good luck to him.

Probably best not to expect too much from Rhys and Kenny Pogue. They were both useful players for Hastings quite a few years ago but not sure Kenny was a regular starter for Hythe last season. Can only hope for the best.

Rhys made his debut for Hastings on Aug 23,2005 in the 2-0 win at Corinthian Casuals.
His record prior to Saturday was Apps 189 (172 starts plus 17 as Sub) and Goals 3.
The game at Walton Casuals on Saturday was his 190th appearance for the club
