Having a sort out, and came across these photo's.

I did not take them, not sure who gave them to me, had them lying in a draw for over 10 years.

Does anyone remember this match and who it is between? There are some banners on the barrier which have the word cup. Some of the players look pass there sell by date! so was it a veterans or ex players match?

Whatever the occasion, certainly drew a fair size attendance.

Finally, the processing date of the photographs is 10th March 2002, so it has to be before then.

Appreciate any info...

I may be wrong Vernon but I am sure picture 9 is former Liverpool and Brighton player Jimmy Case.

Vernon, I think the guy on the right in Picture 10 is Michael Greco who used to be in Eastenders between 1998-2002, so your date fits in. Don't remember this but probably a Sunday afternoon ' celebrity ' game for charity.

Sorry for delay in replying to John and Phil, but you are both correct.

A thank you must go to Barrie West for this page from the Observer, which gives all the details.

Also found this ad in a programme.

Jimmy Case is famous at the Pilot Field for his actions when manager of a team. The match ball ended up in the main stand and when it was thrown back towards the pitch it hit Jimmy Case on the back of the head. He then started to volley spare balls up into the stand which were then thrown back energetically by spectators. I blame the notorious Collins' family for causing this outbreak of civil disobedience.

Well I think I heard a lot of bell ringing during the incident. And Mr Collins senior was a trenchant opponent in the cut-throat Beaulieu-Hastings Wanderers cricket matches.
