Most of us got all the way there before getting the news. The end nearest the road looked OK ,but gather the far end saturated. It seems strange but kids playing on adjacent pitch. Positives are that we are in the draw on Monday and hopefully Crutts back.Downside,as hammer fan states ,another postponed league game.
Went on the train and was called off shortly after getting to Margate, although it stopped raining shortly afterwards and brightened up a lot annoyingly even the Towner gallery was shut ( my arty backup plan! ) so a complete waste of the day really, still at Ashford waiting for train home now :(
Very disappointed that the game was called off today at 2pm. The rain had practically stopped by 2.20pm. I'm quite sure if kick off had been delayed for 30 minutes the pitch would have been playable. As Phil points out, the under 10's were playing no problem on the adjacent pitch. I have included a picture I took of this at 2.15pm?. Drove home in brilliant sunshine! Wonder if my golden goals are still OK for Tuesday? Don't think I can be bothered to go though...
That must have been frustrating for all involved yesterday ! So , we are in fact two more games behind the rest of the league . Not only did we miss out on a home game against our old mates Horham yesterday , which would have been played no trouble , but we also have to move our Tuesday night game to make way for the rearranged cup match , which could also go to a replay ! That could potentially mean the league match at Hythe may need rearranging , or we lose at Margate and draw at Ramsgate in the Trophy . Same scenario . I feel this season is already turning into a nightmare for the club and we haven't even hit winter yet ...i have not known anything like this so early on in the season before ! Crazy ! I know this is wrong but I don't care but I wouldn't be too disappointed if we lost the next two games. I just want us so dearly to get out of this awful league !!
Cheers Phil , wasn't aware of that ... Was using the official website fixtures . Ok so here's another Scenario . Let's say we beat Margate and Ramsgate and then get drawn away again in both competitions ...next round of FA cup would be 15/10 , meaning Guernsey at home will be off . 22/10 we are away in the league v Whyteleafe . Next round of FA Trophy 29/10 ... We could be away again meaning the home league game V E Grinstead would be cancelled . That just leaves Tuesday 18/10 as a possible home game in October v Herne Bay ... Madness !! I know it is all circumstancial but the way things are panning who's to say it won't happen ?
Windy, some good points in your posts but I don't agree with the generally held view that the Ryman South is an awful league. There are quite a few very useful sides around which makes it ever so difficult to gain automatic promotion. Having said that, I wouldn't mind having Jay May back with us to add a bit more physical presence up front when we come up against some of the more physical opponents.
John, the Hythe game will have to be rearranged as they have a Kent Senior Cup game that night.
See the Hythe Town website--the game against Hastings was re-arranged weeks ago as Hythe were instructed to play their KSC tie against Gillingham on 11th Oct. The match is now set for 15th November.
I think it's unfair to say that the website is going downhill Chris. I publish all of the information I receive as soon as I can. That information can be anything from any of our teams whether or be the first team, development squad, academy, under 14s and under 15s. The last two have been updated this evening.
I can only publish and change what I know and what I am sent by the others. Some times it may take me more time to publish things than others. Obviously because I work five days a week and have to prioritise that over what I do for the Club. The same with my family, I put that in front of what I do for the Club, and quite rightly so.
I also have to make sure that I keep all the social media outlets updated (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat), the programme, Football Web Pages, the non-league paper, website and whatever else. I am in the process of finding a couple more people to assist me with some of these, but please understand that I can't always be expected to keep all of this up to date to the minute all of the time, but I always do my best.
By all means, if anyone has any information that they think needs changing, or adding to anything, please send me an email and I will amend it or find out the answer for you.
Dead right Windy. This FA Cup provides useful income, no denying that, but we are now 15 points off the top in 15th place which we all know is a false place for the side we have. We are just as capable of going on a run like Dorking Wanderers have enjoyed - but they have the points in the bag. All those games in hand last season did us no good. I want out of this division and everything seems to be stacking up against us at the moment. So frustrating.
I'm certainly not blaming the official web guys for not updating just merely pointing out that's where I got my info from Chris . Clearly other fans were aware and could easily have advised the guys that maybe the fixtures list needed updating ? But it's not that important where as getting out of this league is and sorry Tim but it's dire in this league with the exception of about 8 clubs .
Although we ultimately lost, I hope everyone at the club, and particularly the players, aren't too downbeat after yesterday's game.
I thought the effort and the commitment was absolutely first rate, and but for the fact we failed to put away about half a dozen half chances, we would have progressed to the next round.
I felt we matched Margate for quality all over the pitch and regularly out played them through midfield with our excellent passing game.
I guess we just lacked that bit of luck and a cutting edge up front that would have seen us home.
A decent crowd and excellent noise from the lads behind the goal......let's hope most come back again on Saturday.
Totally agree Mick, this morning I am not quite so worried about the rest of the season. It looks like the making of a good team, really enjoyed the match, just a pity the result wasn`t the other way. (could have been)
Well what a great night ... I really enjoyed that even though we lost . Thought the team played well and really gave Margate a run for their money . Good to see some of the players that I haven't seen anything of yet . Alex looked lively but maybe needs to get his timing right with his runs as seemed to get caught offside a few times ,but how he didn't get a free kick for clearly being pulled down on a break in the first half , when it was in clear view of two of the officials is beyond me . The rest of the new players looked good and time will tell but I think we all need to be a bit patience as there seems to be a good vibe around the club , on and off the pitch . What a great atmosphere from the Parker boys etc last night. It's nice to hear some singing again .Well done to them ! Looking forward to Saturday v Guernsey 1pm kick off don't forget !!!!
Excellent performance from the boys last night and Darren is certainly building a team we can all be proud of at long last. Thought we were just about the better team throughout the night and the only real difference between the two sides were the two huge Margate centre backs who were just too big and powerful for Alex and Frannie. In fact the game was made for a Jay May type striker. I thought the midfield worked tirelessly throughout and not once did they revert to long ball football. And apart from the equaliser, where we defended very poorly, I thought the back 4 were superb, with Ollie Rowe once again the best player on the pitch for me. Always been decent but Darren has taken him to another level. Lenny still worries me on any corners as he just does not dominate his 6 yard box and I am still not sure if we are paying Steve Watt to be a player or an assistant manager but that is being picky and not taking away from a really good performance from all. Now looking forward to some league action and closing that huge gap on the top teams.
Great performances all over the pitch and a wonderful atmosphere. One thing I can't understand is how Margate didn't concede a penalty when their centre backs were pulling Alex down every time he got near them.
John,
Totally agree with you about Lenny. A good shot stopper but with his experience and stature you would think he would totally dominate the goal area like Dave King used to. This causes us a lot of problems.
Think you're being a bit harsh about our defending at their goal though. They caught us on the break but their movement and the finish were excellent....didn't think we could do much about it. Credit where it's due and all that !
Yes, I thought the Margate goal was a good one. We always look vulnerable to a quick counter-attack when we heavily commit; and we paid the price last night. I thought we looked the better side over the 90 minutes; but Margate had much the better of the extra time and on that basis deserved the win.
What an enjoyable cup tie. Cannot imagine why any sensible football supporter would stay at home to watch England play in preference to a visit to the Pilot Field. You only have to look back to our woeful performance against Poole in the FA Cup to see how far we have progressed. Margate were a big side with plenty of pace but our effort, commitment and good football nearly secured a win. Well done to all the team.
Great highlights and show what a monumental effort it was by all against a really good opponent. The highlights also show again that Lenny really needs to work on his punching and catching from set pieces and I thought I was right on the poor defending for the first goal, with Watty committing and going to ground way to easy. Needed to stay on his feet for sure.
