Although initially only for a month this seems like an absolute class signing for our level, tall strong targetman who hassles opposition defenders constantly and with a good scoring record at Conference South and Ryman Prem levels, Frannie Collin partnered him and they scored nearly 50 goals between them in a season once.
Love to get this one signed up for longer eventually!
Not great reading in today's Observer with Jay May 80% certain to leave next weekend. What a blow for Hastings as he has scored more goals already this season than most of last years squad did all year including Sam Adams. This leaves Frannie, who is yet to score and still looking to regain fitness, Harris, who is a few weeks away still and Bright, who is no where near good enough yet. With Watty injured as well and the defence already looking shaky I have big concerns this weekend. Squad desperately needs strengthening already as a few have already proved they are not good enough at this level. Lets hope these possible new signings Darren talks about come to fruition very quickly.
Agree with John. If, as likely, we are soon to see the last of Jay it will be a great loss. Tomorrow is just going to be a game to get through with whatever resources can be cobbled together. If Bodkin is fit then I think he must play forward of his usual role, perhaps in partnership with Frannie in the middle and Bright wide (where he looks better suited to my mind). We need to progress a round or two further in the FA cup to secure the very useful money available for so doing.
Beyond tomorrow, well there's no shortage of positions in the squad where money needs already to be spent. If that means (as was speculated in the Observer) that one or two have to go to release funds, then so be it.
Trouble with taking him back would have meant we had a player playing for us for money only, and if he started doing OK and someone offered more he'd probably have been off. We will miss his goals but would he have been good for team harmony? I for one wouldn't be bothered if he did return, but equally not bothered if he doesn't.
Agree with Chris about Billy. Bad news about Jay-would like to see him in a Hastings shirt for the rest of the season. Must be better for him to play on a good grass pitch!
I too think Chris strikes the right note about Billy. We miss the goals, but there would be a clear downside in taking him back at the present time. So, let's hope Darren can indeed find other options.
If May has to go a good quality striker has just come available, Lloyd Dawes who was one of the the top scorers in the league last season for Worthing has left Lewes by mutual consent as they were looking for a more physical forward. Didn't work out for him there but clearly a decent striker, maybe worth a look?
