Good news signing Steve Watt & Matt Bodkin from Leatherhead!
Looking at their website it seems that both Josh Hare & Stephen Okoh are in their squad as well and are often used as late substitutions, wouldn't mind both of them, and also Frannie Collin would be extremely useful as well!
Perhaps we could look into signing all 3 of them?
First I've heard of a 2 year contract Phil, thought it was 1 year. But like I say though this is for the confirmed squad only, when / if his names mentioned officially in the squad for this season he'll be added.
Good luck to Walder and even more luck to Crowborough. Complete waste of talent and this moves tells you everything you need to know about him. Only Duncan Mcarthur comes close when it comes to disciplinary issues over the years and we could just about forgive him because he was brilliant! Unless he gets his head right could do more harm than good at Crowborough.
any news on players? see some club start training soon and have there squad announce and we have no news apart from who manager is that we have a fitness coach asistant manager and 2 other players and the players going on a fitness weekend. never know it be so quiet from club about players for season ahead. is it being keep a secret to make one big news story or should we get a bit worried? Ollie Rowe we know is staying what about other players from last season?
No personally not worried at all after watching that video interview with Darren Hare, the July 1st registration date is important when it comes to signing players from both Non League and the Football League. Plenty of time.
Understand there are plenty in the pipeline both old and new.

I've expressed concern in the past; and I would certainly like to have more specific and positive news soon. But I'm persuaded that the manager is indeed doing matters his way; and I'm glad Dan is able to confirm that there are matters in the pipeline.

Chris and Steve, I certainly agree we don't want to over pay players; but if we over delay in getting players to commit we might very well end up doing just that. There are - as contributors to this forum have repeatedly stated over the years - a limited pool of players of quality who are prepared to play in our league for a reasonable wage and who live locally or are prepared to travel to Hastings. As reported, some rival sides have moved more quickly than us to (provisionally at least) assemble their squads. Yes, they might have committed to pay over the odds to some players in so doing; but I do have an anxiety that if matters are left too late then we might well end up with having to choose (and over pay) second choice players in order to get a credible squad together for the start of the season. Of course, opportunities do arise during the season (last year's mid-season signing of Billy Medlock is witness to that), but the lesson of recent seasons has been that the automatic promotion spot in our league is so difficult to achieve that to be in contention a side needs to be up and running from the start.

Geoff, I am at a loss now to know what a good player is, the last two seasons I thought we had a good squad on September 1St but for some reason things went badly wrong in 14/15, and we were well below par in 15/16. So let Darren do his own stuff and if he gets it wrong we know what the outcome will be. But let him do it his way without panicking.
So with Billy Medlock tweeting last night that he isnt signing for us are we really just two weeks away from our first friendly with half a squad ? Or are we just not being updated ? I don't know about you but I'm concerned . Hopefully it's just down to that time of year when the people that update us are on holiday . Can anyone at least tell us how many turned up at training yesterday please ? Oh good luck to Bill we will really miss you !
Gather there was 24 players at training yesterday so loads there plus have heard since that apparently very good offers were made to Billy but would imagine that an agreement couldn't be reached between both sides. Shame as he is top class.
He and josh will both be big losses although obviously josh may have a way to go before match fit so always expected us to sign another good GK for the start of the season tbh.
The new signings so far have been impressive in terms of quality though so hopefully it continues that way when the rest of signings are confirmed.
I believe the manager did not really show any interest in him
r u kidding,if that's so got to go some to find a better striker was really looking forward to billy and Collins up front.maybe manager do's have someone lined up,pelling another big big lose keepers few and far between to match josh imo.
Just to clarify a few things if I may, there has been plenty of interest in to signing players, like Dan said 24 at the training facility yesterday. Steve the fact you think the manager showed no interest in signing Billy is absolute nonsense. Understandably, Billy has had offers left, right and centre, but due to personal reasons, he has decided not to sign for us this season and due to those personal reasons, no more questions need to be asked. Darren Hare already has another striker in mind.
Josh Pelling - injured at the moment, as we all know. He has also decided to leave the Club and with a heavy heart, sends this message to the fans..
"A big thank you for all the amazing support over the past three seasons. Also for the very kind and generous donations for the collection for my injury. I'm leaving for a number of reasons but won't go into the them. I'm sad to be leaving such a great club and have loved my time here, and I want to wish everyone the very best for next season. I won't be in London forever so who knows what will happen in the future!"
Cheers for the updates, Liam and Dan ... I'm not sure where you got that about Billy from Steve but I really don't think it's true . We why would it be ? Billy is class but there are obvious personal reasons why he can't resign . There's going to be a lucky club out there . But having said that I am really encouraged to hear 24 turned up , especially as training took place in Maidstone apparently . Yep maybe we will be alright after all ?
shame about Pells and Billy. cant believe that manager was not interested in Billy. if it was not for him we would not have had chance of play offs for so long last season. shame his personal reasons dont see him stay. Heard from a academy player who went training that players at training was mix of first team under 21 and academy and he said he thought 22 there. good that they being involve and maybe there will be some local youngsters give a chance to mix it with the out of town ones. but if the club is really going for it then i imagine there will be more signings but getting quite late now and looks like most of our rivals have already done there squads or got settle one from last season
feel like only time we get news is when anyone says no news. shame club cant be more open with supporters that pay money. on facebook prices slashed for friendly but think that always be price for them but we get so little news like ollie said that find it hard to stay interested. still nothing about new owners unless i missed something in programme and nothing about news about social club. just look at Brighton website and nothing on there website about a preseason game against Hastings, is that still happening?
Think it was personal reasons why we had Billy last season, and would imagine those reasons are now finished with, so he can go and play at the level more appropriate to his ability. People need to remember some managers think it's best to do business later, as long as the squad is OK by the 1st league game that's all that matters.
very true chris but good to have a side / squad at start of preseason so friendlys can be use to get use to each other otherwise you play your first few games with players getting to know each other and can be hard to catch up. guess we just have to trust Hare that he knows what he doing and that his lack of experience in being a manager at this level cause no regret in getting players in early. fingers cross for start of season
Just so disappointed about Billy as the thoughts of him and Frannie together next season was so exciting. I am guessing the lifting of his driving ban is behind his decision as I know we did everything possible to try and keep him.
With Zac also leaving and no news on Tyrell, who of course can be a little hit and miss, I am guessing we are now on the look out for at least two more strikers.
Also sad to see Josh on his way although I am sure he will be back one day. Has been a fantastic servant and a top quality keeper for many years and will be sorely missed.
Have total faith in new manager and board but would be a lot happier to hear of some new signings in the not too distant future as squad looking very thin.
Don't think he was ever going to stay once ban was lifted, and who can blame him, he is far too good for Ryman south. I believe we will have a good squad by the first week of the season. Looking forward to next weeks games.
Gutted to read about Billy, Pells too, but understand his reasons considering he now lives and works in London.
Like everyone else would like to see a couple more signings made soon to ease the nerves!
He was always gonna be in-demand by many clubs clubs one if not two divisions higher than where we are who can probably afford to pay him the money that strikers of that class ( and he is top class ) are currently going for. Would be a huge gamble for us at Ryman South to compete against them at those levels financially. Expect he'll be at a top Ryman Prem club next season like Dulwich, Tonbridge or even Whitehawk in the league above them.

Brighton will only really show friendlies for their First team, seeing as we're playing their U21s/Development squad it's not included. Shame we can't get more fixtures against the main side, other Sussex teams have managed it the past few seasons, was pretty surreal seeing the likes of Kuszczak and Vincente playing up the PF a couple of years back...

True, but I do remember them regularly playing the likes of Worthing and Burgess Hill. But considering they can get the likes of Sevilla and Lazio these days why would you want to play minnows like us?
Refreshingly honest and open from Darren which is good to hear. Was hoping to see his boy here this season and still no bloody mention of a left back. What is it with Hastings and left backs?
good to have news from manager but rather than youth we was promised we look like we are going other way and having experience players on there way down. hope these players are still good enough but remember in past we have had players that be pro and come to hastings at end of there career and been not that good. scott ramsey, richard rose for example. other player to like whiteman that not live up to reputation. was hoping for more players like sam crutwell young, improving, upcoming and the future. Good to have experience with younger players but if manager says he look to sign another ex pro i guess he another one that his career going the wrong way. if the experience players are still fit hungry agile enough and here for right reasons then we should walk this league. if not could be a mess. hope it is the first and we do a Burgess Hill / Folkestone.
Anyone who has followed this forum for the past 2 seasons will see I have always coveted two players for Hastings, Lee Carney being one, who has now signed for Horsham and the other was Wayne Wilson. So, now so happy to see he is now a Hastings player. For anyone that has not seen Wayne in action he really is the best free kick taker you will see at any level of football, that is no exaggeration. Every week I used to watch the Faversham highlights on their website and without fail, Wayne would step up with a 35 Yarder. A free kick anywhere within 35 yards was almost like a penalty kick. He then came down to Hastings 2 seasons ago and did likewise from the same distance. Another super signing and Cannot wait to see him in Hastings colours.
Now excited to hear who this incredible goal keeper is that Darren talks about in today's Observer. Very exciting times ahead.

This is spot on WW's free kicks and corners are the best around.
O'Brien is what i thought to as see he has no club. Wilson another very good signing. has really surprise me that we have really gone for experience over youth with the managers background ad when club say they wanted to focus on youth. when you look at team now if we can get LB another striker and goalkeeper then we really should win this league at a canter. thought last year team was very good but this look better.
Yes Liam O'Brien has left Dag & Red and he would be a great signing for us as some Portsmouth supporters have said that they wouldn't mind him back there as their Number 1.
Josh Hare has now joined Eastbourne Borough.
Lots of changes at the Pilot Field so far this season with some excellent players coming in and equally decent moving out but a few names have had no mention whatsoever. Anyone know the whereabouts of the following and are we likely to see any of them tomorrow I wonder? Like many others, would love to see a return for Alfie and Jack.
Alfie Hall
Jack Mclean
Chris Cumming Bart
Bright Temba
Tyrell Richardson Brown
Kevant Serbony
Liam Foster
Kyle Holden

I thought I saw mention of Bright and Tyrell on the website earlier this month but all of those you mention are good footballers and will enhance the squad.
It was embarrassing tonight, it was almost like we didn't have a whole first team avalible and only really 7-8 first team quality players there. What about this new goalkeeper of ours, who didn't even bother to turn up. By now at this stage we should have at least 14 first team quality players for selection, new manager comes in but everything still felt the same. It makes me question weather or not he has the contacts to get the players we need to get promoted...
Frankly I think the whole situation has been leading to this . Even as a supporter you could see the rumblings and politics going on last season sitting next to the directors box as I do ...
Shame .... Non league , the last hope of decent football for the working class not tainted by big money premiership over paid Nancy boys ...
I will still be there , but I fear the worse this season ... I can see why Sammy and razor have gone ... Maybe they knew more
to early and hard to judge on 1 friendly but i came away last night disappointed and surprise that we really look very poor and there was nothing to get excited about. a few years ago i remember when we beat brightons first team and thought that the players we had got thiss eason would be to strong for brightons kids but we was nowhere near them. good to see jack harris back . the goalkeeper mystery stay a mystery but neither goalkeeper last night are good enough. usual disjointed friendly but one thing we really struggle with last night was fitness and speed and all over the pitch we was slower and again after the manager saying about fitness and the day on a training camp thing we look poor. we suffer big time last season against fit young strong hungry ryman south sides and last night did not make me think we have sorted this. my initial feeling was the appointment was risky , started to get more excited with the quality players we was signing but then after last night more doubt again. a good crowd but the brighton supporters that could have thought maybe i will watch some games at hastings this season would not have been impressed by us i think
Admittedly, that was desperate viewing last night but lets take it for it was, nothing more than an early season fitness exercise. it was men versus boys at times and the gulf in class and fitness was frightening at times. Impossible to make any early season judgement on individuals but as a very, very early assessment I would say the squad desperately lacks any pace....again, the left back position rumbles on....again, more than a couple of supposedly first team players were carrying a bit around the waste area, which of course can be worked on, and none of our youth players are anywhere close to making a first team breakthrough yet. And what did we gain by throwing on a team of 17 and 18 year olds in the 2nd half against Brighton? the lads barely touched the ball and actually looked pretty humiliated and down when they trooped off at the end. Not sure that would have done anything for their confidence going forward..
Not sure that Darren would have learnt anything from last night apart from his squad looks desperately thin still and I am guessing we probably still need half a dozen players. Says it all when you have Liam Foster leading the line in the 2nd half. Where was Tyrell? where was Bright? the only two youngsters who did look capable of breaking through.
On a positive note, I do remember the last three seasons watching pre season friendlies against Gillingham and Whitehawk last year, Lewes the one before and a first team Brighton the year before that and thinking Wow! we look fantastic and are going to do some real damage this season. It worked out that we were pretty useless and it never worked out that way so hoping this will now immediately lower expectations for the season ahead and the players may then just surprise us.
My fear before the game was that this was a friendly that ideally would have been played last in the preseason calendar not as our first game as we were always on a hiding to nothing against a really decent & well organised championship full time youth side who I expect have played together for a while. Pleased to see first hand how good Jack Harper ( ex Real Madrid teenager ) could be with that second goal, he'll be a star in the future and we'll be remembering that goal!
First half we conceded our usual type of goal from a corner and our defensive positioning needs work as always. We couldn't really get near them as they were pinging it around so well but honestly I wasn't particularly surprised about that hence why this was like being thrown in at the deep end for the first friendly.
Pluses - thought Bodkin showed flashes of promise for the season ahead and Simon Johnson delivered a few decent through balls, Jack Harris also held the ball up well in the first half and am pleased to see him back.
Negatives - pace, seemed to be lacking it somewhat over the whole pitch, could still do with a Tyrell or Okoh type player to mix it up. Def need another Center Back and Specialist LB, you lose too much of Sam Cole when he plays there and we need his goal threat further up the pitch. Sam Cruttwell needs to play CM somehow not really a LW although he can deliver good crosses from there of course.
All in all I'm not personally over worried, Hare has already said he's waiting for players to finish trials at league clubs before snapping them up so plenty of time to improve the squad, obviously not something we've done in the past and yes possibly a gamble but seeing as he's dealt with it over many years from the over side I trust his judgement.
I think its important that we have jack harris back, as we only have one other striker. Still don't think that last night he looked overly fit, but neither did most of the team. Also i think we should have matched sam adams wages that Hythe offered him, as he was one of our best player from last season.

Hi John,
do you know what Hythe offered him? Maybe it is too extreme.
