''Part of Darren Hare's pre-season fitness and training programme for Hastings United's playing staff will include a day at KSport's facilities at Cobdown in Kent on the 2nd Julywhere the playing staff will be put through a double session of activities that will include 90 minutes of high tempo football, aerobic conditioning and strength and core work. All of this will be followed by a high protein and carbohydrate lunch.
Darren says it his intention to get his playing squad fully fit from pre-season with various sorts of fitness work continuing throughout the season to make sure the squad retains full sharpness from the beginning of the season to the end.
The club is looking to become more professional and Darren's refreshing ideas in the fitness area are a step along that path''
Good luck with that Darren but we are a Ryman south club which purely by history suggests that there is a large turnover of players.
Whilst it all sounds good and is good doubt it's a going to contribute greatly to us next season. You can't also control diets of players at this level when paying players less than £100 a week which I'm sure some will be getting.
I would suggest turning up for training and building a team spirit would be far more beneficial.
I remember when Jack took the team for pre-season training and we didn't flag at the end of the season. Good to see that we are progressing in the right direction and any player with pride in himself should relish the chance to get properly fit for the forthcoming season.
chris b positive as ever, you would moan if the management did"nt get the players fit at least they are trying something different after all they do train players day in day out
I hope and really expect that some of the new players we sign still have ambitions to be full time pros at some level and would fully expect them to take this type of thing really seriously as well as the fitness side of things in general. This professional attitude from the manager and the club can only be a positive thing really.
I can't believe chris b could seriously be suggesting a pub crawl followed by kebabs all round as apposed to team training ... although !! it would give him something else to complain about, which obviously makes him happy.
I don't have any issue with the concept as if you read what I put, you would see. what i am saying is can you expect our players to do as asked in terms of diet, when for the last few years players have struggled to make training. Also for the last few years how many players who played in game 1 played in game 46. So unless the whole attitude of players at HUFC doesn't change, then I can't honestly see how it will benefit over the season.
i think chris b makes valid points as i said in other thread. its great being profesional but have to remember level we are at and team spirit in ryman is as important as fitness. i have been in town on a saturday night and seen our players drunk and smoking but like chrisb says you can only expect so much from semi pro players. hope all the players do get on board and eat well look after themself but in real world think it could be bit different and for some good players at this level it could scare them from signing for us. but on other side after last season and johnw make that point our fitness was poor so something need doing. dead ball dont think chrisb or anyone think players do pub crawl and kebabs instead of train but that is what they do after a saturday game!
A good start with fit players would bring a big feelgood factor and pay dividends. Good players would surely be attracted to a high-flying club with hopes of prizes.

PeterR, i was referring to one of chris`s earlier comments about how "building team spirit would be more beneficial" than darrens approach to intensive training "at ryman south level".
i`m sorry but that sort of comment is total boll*c%s... when what we need is a core of players that can play and run for a full 90mins (ideally 120mins, but that maybe a bit too much to ask). Yes it maybe hell for them, but if they are all training this hard together, they will become a team. plus by doing this no "supporter" could call into question any players commitment to the game or the club.
Darrens approach may well be more suited to league players, but how many times were comments made last season about players fitness and how after 60 mins some were blowing out of their arse`s... well guess what ! he`s trying to change that, but.... some are already trying to find fault. just saying !!
