Makes sense I think in the context of the expected transfer policy, brilliant servant to Hastings though as both player and manager. Cheers for the good memories Razor and good luck at Eastbourne!

Think you are right for the most of it Dan but with both Sean and Sam now gone you are losing a lot of Hastings United Pride and History. A club is always build on history with a few players- staff-board members and of course supporters who protect the tradition of a club.

I hope there is a new generation ready to step up to the plate Bert, as you say gonna need some experienced players around them, in an ideal world I would have liked both Razor & Sammy ( Also Vickers tbh ) to have stayed around but with Darren's heavy experience in Youth Decelopment I'd imagine he's got a good contacts book of promising youngsters who've been at League clubs and who are desperate to prove themselves worthy of another chance at that level. Combine with our best young players ( Cruttwell, Temba, Tyrell etc ) Throw in two or three really experienced and high quality players who've seen and done it all ( Maybe someone like Frannie Collin ) and that's a good looking mix.

Understand what you mean Dan and on a football perpective you are right. But my point is that you - as a supporter - want to identify with the club you support. Most players and managers are passers-by and will stay not long at a club. The special ones will stay; keep up the tradition and often that is a reason to support a club. It;s tradition is so important.

Know what your saying Bert and Theyll be very hard to replace but unusual at this level for players to spend so long with a club as they have anyway,

Football goes in cycles though and it's a challenge for current local players like Sam Cruttwell, Pelling, Temba, Richardson-Brown and Liam Foster to raise their game further and become the new local legends.

It's certainly going to feel different around the club next season with first Sammy and now Razor leaving for pastures new. For me, Razor was still head and shoulders, our best defender last year and I am sad to see him leave. Have no doubt whatsoever that we will see him return as manager in years to come. Hastings legend, of that there is no doubt.

Agree completely with John. I'm sure too that Sean's connection with HUFC will be renewed in the future. For now, many thanks to him for all his efforts and loyal service.

Shocked. Big loss that, best defender gone , he must be one of first names on team sheet over last few years and always gives 100% and very consistent for our level. thought he would see his playing days out at hastings and big shame he gone to eastbourne. agree with bert like he is more than a just a player he is a local that wears heart on sleeve and you need players like that in team.

Think this is another step towards a new era Sean has been a good servant to the club and has played his part in our history, and thanks for that Sean. But let's move on now at this stage the new man has to build his own team. So I for one see this as another chance to move on.

Oh well looks like its goodbye hastings united from me as I am really not interested in the new managers ideas. Dont see the point of having a whole new team as to me that is not hastings. Shame as I had enjoyed being a supporter over the last 10 years

All I can see is the manager is intent on not making any effort to keep any of our key experienced players and instead wants a team full of inexperienced teenagers which is no good.

oh I see, I totally agree, even though I am 100% behind the local youngsters and I believe some of them are quality players every team needs experience first, ie the core and spine of a team then gradually bring in the youth until they are ready (some will fit in quicker than we think others will find it a struggle), that's my opinion anyway.

In regards to Becks' points: Well, I think it too early to be over critical. But not too early to be concerned. I have felt anxious since the Club announced the criteria they wished for the new managerial appointment - an emphasis on youth development. That is laudable in terms of community involvement and in bringing on younger players in the town and across the area; but it is not a policy which is likely by itself to achieve success for the Club in terms of promotion in either the shorter or medium term. We need a core of more experienced players. Which I felt we had towards the end of last season.
The departure of Gary was his choice and not the Club's - had he stayed some of those players who have left / reported to have left might have stayed. Also, we have the serious injuries to Josh and Billy Medlock and Jack McLean (who I rated highly in his few appearances). I hope those return to us early next season fully fit; but who knows?
I completely accept that it was the Club's evident conscious choice to go with the approach they have; that Darren will bring great qualities to his role; and that he has not yet revealed the strategic or specific choices he wishes to make in terms of player appointments. But the clock is indeed very rapidly ticking in terms of retaining anyone worthwhile from last year's squad who might definitely be expected to be fit for the start of the season. My larger worry is, given Darren's CV, does he know / have contacts with players at our level of football who can commit to Hastings and provide us with the quality of team needed to make a credible challenge for promotion? I hope the answer will come soon and be a resoundingly positive one.

Think we need to see the whole squad before we can judge it, he's only been in the job 5 days so we don't know if /which experienced players will also be brought in alongside any potential younger prospects.

It's ridiculous to start being concerned, let's wait til' mid late June before we start to be worried. Sean Sam etc have had 3 seasons to get us out this division with no success. A change was required.

Exactly so Dan; but the point is that with rival Clubs acting very quickly to build their squads; our experienced players rapidly departing; and at least a question mark over Darren's current knowledge of and contact with available Div 1 South players that time is at a premium. Darren has been dealt a difficult hand; but it is, of course, one of his and the club's choice.

don't think there's any concern chris, just interest in the new managers way of thinking, tactics and thoughts of progressing as a team, it's just as always in between seasons people would like to know what is going on behind the curtains.

Well Chris, I don't disagree with you on principle and I suspect, given what you yourself have said on other threads, that the actual distance between us on this matter is not necessarily that great; but I think we are entitled to have a current concern - nothing more than that I agree - for the reasons I have expressed on whether time is running out to assemble the squad we need. If you don't accept that, well then we must disagree; I hope, of course, without personal contention.

And that will always happen again. Think indeed that we have to wait for some weeks how things are developping .

But please support the new team in the start.

Just because no deals haven't been announced officislly wouldn't surprise me if there weren't a few done already actually to be announced as part of a big press release along with coaches etc.

Let's hope that that is so. We all want to get behind the management and whatever team they put together; but if this forum is to serve any useful purpose, beyond allowing those who post to let off steam, then it is to make positive criticism and express concern whilst there is still time for something to be done about it. Not that I delude myself into thinking that what we say here is going to be of overwhelming influence to those who make the actual decisions!

Looking back to last season we didn't have any players announced as signed on until June 10th so not getting overly concerned personally as yet, however Lewes pulled off quite a coup today getting Worthings top scorer from last season Lloyd Dawes ( 29 goals in Ryman South ) but they must have finished their business nearly now as have about 19 players announced already. They did this using their 'payaplayer' equivalent scheme.
