Following a lengthy and thorough recruitment process, the Board of Directors of Hastings United Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Darren Hare as the new First Team Manager at the Pilot Field.
Hare is a UEFA 'A' Licence holder and has built up a wealth of experience whilst working in roles which have included six years as Head of Youth Development at Gillingham, for whom he has also served as Academy Manager, as well as a spell in joint caretaker charge of First Team affairs. He also spent two years as Assistant Manager at Dover Athletic in the late 2000s, helping to oversee their Ryman League title success during the 2008/09 campaign.
Many supporters will remember Hare from his playing days as well, when, as a centre forward, he was part of Peter Sillett's Hastings Town squad of the early 1990s. He is currently in the process of finalising his backroom team, and these appointments will be announced in due course.
However, the Club is pleased to confirm that Dane Martin has agreed to continue in his position of Physiotherapist, and Dino Gilkes will also be staying on as Kit Man. Glyn White will remain in charge of the Development Squad for the 2016/17 season, with Dean White retaining his role as Head Coach of United's Football Academy.
The Club will have two additional development squads next season, in the Under 14 and Under 15 age groups, with both of these teams playing on Sundays in the Kent Youth League. In addition, the Club is likely to introduce a further development squad in the Under 16 age group ahead of the 2017/18 season.
The intention is for the Club to attract the best young players from Hastings and the surrounding area with a view to a number of them graduating to its Under 19 Football Academy. The managers and coaches for the new teams will be announced in the near future, and the Club envisages these squads complimenting the various sides operating under the banner of the Hastings United Youth Section
Good news! Looking forward to the season already. Well done to all concerned with the recruitment of Darren. Hope to see some good young players mixed with a core of experience to give good football and hopefully promotion.
Great appointment, well done to the board. Lets hope he brings his son with him, he was quality when on loan a couple of seasons back. Now the pre season really starts to begin.
Pleasantly surprised, wouldn't have thought we could have attracted him from his role at the Gills. Feeling positive again now! His contacts and great knowledge of local young players are going to be invaluable.
Currently runs a Football academy of excellence with current Leyton Orient boss Andy Hessenthaler as well which also bodes well for getting good young prospects in.
Does anyone know if he is keeping other football job? It's hard to really comment on the appointment as there is no record to look at for Ryman level football. it could be good or it could be a disaster of an appointment, only time will tell, and for what it's worth I wish him all the best and really hope he succeeds.
With his strong player development background hopefully he can further bring on some of our still raw but very promising players like Cruttwell, Bright & Tyrell amongst others. Backed up with a few solid more experienced players.
Would expect the coaching sessions to be of a high level. Has does have experience winning the Ryman league albeit as an assistant manager ( although quite often they can be the power behind the throne as ChrisB himself noted when some of our previous managers were appointed who had success with strong assistants )
i would prefer a manager with a proved record at this level a manager that knows what players can make a winning team in ryman. but on paper very good coach with his qualifications and must be better than what we had last season and that is big positive as so many time last season players look like strangers and not knowing what they was doing. but could be a risk sometime good coaches dont make good manager and is it a risk with his first time managing? think he is going to need lot of players and hope he has contacts with players that can play at this level or we will be a bit like we was when steve lovell was manager and that was dumping ground for players that never make it with gillingham. but hope he can adapt to ryman south football but can see this being a season where we might be mid table to close to play off again but with Darren Hare finding his feet as manager and a lot of new players think promotion may be a tough ask.
is the plan still focus on youth and stick with a budget lower than last year and build a team for maybe 3 seasons time or is it all out for promotion again like last season?
anyway hope Hare does well and good luck to him and hope that the way the club is run does not get in the way of his job
Peter if anyone at the club says we are building for 3 years down the line we might as well give up now. It won't work as we are playing at too low a level, and if we had good players they would want to play at a higher level. So after every year you would have to replace at least 2/3 of the better players.
some clubs can do it chris like worthing and burgess hill and folkestone where players will stay cos they feel loyal to the manager if not the club. i suppose we will see soon which way the club is going
Well I suppose I'm one of those who need encouragement to stay patient. I make no apologies for that. To an extent though, I feel reassured by what Darren had to say. His comments were frank and didn't evade the difficulties of his task. Full marks for that. He made it clear it was his choice to let Sean go and credit should be given to him for making that explicit. Clearly he has plans for the centre back positions. He indicated he wants players who can commit to Hastings; and evidently he wants and expects to do things his way and has the backing of the Board to do so. All of that is very good.
