Cliff I have posted Dave Nesslings piece regarding the Elphinstone club below, it's a brief piece taken from his notes.

In the short term we have identified a good synergy with our neighbours The Elphinstone Sports & Social Club (ESSC) and have held recent discussions with the club’s committee and members to explore the possibility of the us making an investment into their club to refurbish and upgrade its current facilities so that we could offer our supporters and away fans the use of the club. We be- lieve with sensible investment the ESSC would benefit via an increase in revenue that it currently receives, as well as providing our playing squad with Gym access and a number of other benefits.
We will continue to look at this opportunity and might try to progress this with our neighbours during the summer, although we will only conclude matters if the Directors feel there are benefits for Hastings United FC.

As many know, this building was built as our club house in the 70's or 80's, and had to be sold when money became short.

Didn't realise that Cliff, did there used to be steps down from it to the ground originally then?

Dan, the steps are still there.

I don't have the best of memories, but I think there was a consortium of 3 or 4 business men who were involved in the build. Maybe they were directors at the time.

Maybe someone with a better memory can help here.

Before my time, but wasn't the club once owned by the old Hastings United, who sold the club in the 80's trying to raise enough funds to prevent them from going under?

Yes, definitely the old Hastings United.

What worries me is that I can not remember the facts about the club house, but I can remember the smelly toilets that used to sit in that area before it.

Ah yes Cliff those old toilets were rather smelly weren't they ? I remember there use to be a small goal post on the bank just below those loos, where we use to play as kids , at half time . I think there were turnstiles near there too ... Long since gone !!!       I guess we will all find out a bit more about the Post Office Clubs future once the local elections are over next week 😬😬... Or maybe not !

The Elphinstone Club was indeed built originally for the old Hastings United, and sadly the main reason why the club folded back in 1985.

I have attached a few programme pages from back in the day, to give a bit of a time line.

The first two pages date from 17-12-80 and show the building was nearing completion.

The next four pages date from 21-2-81 and show the opening day of the Club.

The next page from 28-4-81 shows the official opening on 7-5-81 with the ''Swinging Blue Jeans''.

And finally the last two pages, taken from Claret and Blue, show how the Club House, left a bank debt of £52,000 which left Hastings United being wound up on 6-6-85. The saddest day ever, in the history of football in Hastings! (I'm still not over it!)

If any of these images appear upside down, blame windows 10, not me!

Think you were right Peter it seems that no one has denied it, and if things aren't true someone will usually come on here and say so.

I have heard that the Elphinstone Club has been bought by one of our main Sponsors.

They have also bought the Pilot Field & The Firs & surrounding area from the Council for future development.

Whether this is true or not I don't know?
