I think this explanation from the club of how matters have unfolded since Josh's most unfortunate injury is welcome and informative - apart, perhaps, from what happened (is happening) regarding Matt Armstrong Ford. It's good news that we have an experienced capable keeper with us for the next few games until the situation with those who are injured / ill becomes clearer. We have a realistic chance of making the play-offs but it will doubtless be a bumpy ride and each goal saved might well be crucial.
I don't believe was Matt cruttwell choice his future lied elsewhere, he wanted to play ryman level and was happy to travel from his uni for training n games the club told him an hour before arriving for the east grinstead game that they had signed joe Taylor so I don't blame him not wanting to come back why would the club do that ??
that how i read it to feel sorry for matt as think he did well and if that is true that he find out that short notice dont blame him for leaving. poor man management., yes he made one mistake but other players make mistakes and dont get drop but suppose it is more noticed with a keeper but with strikers they can play poor week in week out but still get picked. so we change 1 kid our own in Rose for another kid from Millwall, what is point of having under 21 and academy sides no future for players in hastings but hope this millwall guy keeps clean sheet and helps us get 3 points against guernsey.
Should stuck with crutts in my eyes decent keeper, yes he had bad game vs Dorking but think most our team did in his other 2 games I saw he dealt with every thing well what was thrown at him
I see that Perry McNamee resigned for the Under 21's - played one game and kept a clean sheet then not picked for the next games. Understand he is highly rated by Sean Ray, Nigel Kane and the players.
Crutts is a very decent keeper and would have been good to have kept him but the two signings to replace him also have great pedigree and the Millwall U21 Girling will surely help us a lot over the next month before he goes back and Joe Taylor is fit. With Dan Rose as backup as well after a good debut in terms of keeper depth we are pretty good currently.
Doeboy, you say a lot of sensible things and we all have our different feelings on how the season has gone so far and we all have our own opinions on how the new management team have done, but no one appears more anti the management than yourself at present, why is that?. The club released a statement saying that Matt Cruttwell decided his long term future lies elsewhere. If that's the case what makes you think that the management may have made a f**k up by releasing him, Unless Matt himself has said otherwise or spoke to you personally. For all we know they may have wanted to keep him. Does anyone really know?
I think Matt is a very good keeper and I think he did very well when he stepped in for Josh, but it was always going to be on a temporary basis. It is a massive step from county 2 to Ryman South, right in the middle of a push for promotion and I think it was the right decision to bring in a new keeper with experience at a higher level.
I agree 100% with what John has to say above. Matt has great potential; we might very well see him again; but I think it entirely right that we should have an experienced keeper available for every remaining game this season. I welcome what the Management have done to ensure that.
i dont think Matt is a great keeper but he could and did do a job. i laugh when i see we have gone for a more experience keeper as Matt probably has more experience than the other 2 when it comes to playing senior football! have not seen boy from millwall and only saw other one once so jury is out with me on them but i guess what management hope and thought is that they are better keepers than what we have and only time can tell that. but if that is the case and our own players in reserves are not good enough why do we have a reserve side if when we need players we just go and spend money.
I have not said the management (have) f***ed up. i said (have ) they ? reed the difference ? and have not got a beef about the management. just a few question marks ???
A typical reply from Doeboy, as John says you seem to have a lot against the management team and the decisions it makes. Here we are sitting just outside the play offs and indeed for a brief period of time in them on Saturday, with games in hand. Now I know that games in hand count for nothing unless you win those but they must be doing something right, you can't deny that?
I don't know the full story behind Matt seeing his future elsewhere, I haven't spoken to anyone about the situation however, I have known Matt since he was a youngster and has always showed great potential. Sometimes it's not always about playing at a higher standard but whether you're enjoying playing in the squad you're playing in. I did say in a previous post that Matts situation with Uni wasn't ideal as he is living in Chichester, Stevie said that Matt wasn't bothered by that, I honestly don't know, I suspect it's true giving he played only a few miles from us. I will say though Harry Girling maybe younger however his football cv is certainly impressive, to be signed for any pro club is a great achievement however to also be on the books of Arsenal at one point shows he has huge potential and could quite easily play higher than our level.
I wish Matt all the best for the future, he's a great lad and hopefully we will see him back with us at some point in the future.
it doesn't take wisdom to see what it blatantly obvious. It looks like Folkestone will win the league so the next best thing is to secure a play off place and that is so far going to plan. Isn't that exactly how you see it? Rumour has it you're an ex manager of ours and are now plying your trade in the North of Sussex, this may be the reason why your posts seems to have an air of sour grapes.
If you were an ex pro then surely you'd know that if you are in need of a keeper then you'd get the best available to you at the time? The report says Matt has decided he wants to play elsewhere, I've not spoken with him or anyone else on the matter so I don't know if that's the case therefore asking the question if the management have f***ed up surely doesn't come into it? So I suggest you should be the one chilling out.
Who are you then Doeboy and who did you play for? Very interested to know. If you're an ex pro then you'd know that a keeper signed by a pro club is better than a keeper from a county two club.
thought forums was where supporters come to have opinion and put there view. so some people dont agree and some people do. who care who doeboy is he has an opinion and lenny and liam have other opinion. no one is necessaryily right and no one wrong. i still think that we dont have a more experience keeper with a kid from millwall. all it means is that he has potential but who to say that millwall will keep him and he could end up being a non league keeeper. it happen all the time with players at pro clubs that they end up not required cos pro clubs get a foreign player in! and look like that happen at our club where our reserve players dont get decent chance and players from other clubs get bought in. no wonder it is hard to keep a good reserve side cos players probably just want to get first team football at other clubs where they are wanted
God, what have I started here? Well if doeboy is an ex professional he is not very well known. He names himself as Bob Wright from Brighton on this forum. Just Googled Bob wright ex pro, for a laugh, and could only find a Scottish footballer born in 1915. Is that him? Pat might know as he was born in the same year.
I think we all care who doeboy is Peter if he turns out to be a bitter ex employee just trying to stir up trouble. That's not going to help anyone at the club. I don't know who he is and perhaps he is who he says he is. Perhaps other people know a lot more than I do because I know diddly. What I do know is that over the past few years we have instances or ex Hastings players, players and staff from the old Rye Utd and even a player who was actually playing for the first team at the time, all coming on this forum trying to disrupt the team. A lot of people don't know these things go on but they have done fairly regularly on the forum over the past few years. All Matt Cruttwells fault!!!!
ok john fair enough but still think in general people should be able to say there view so long as not scandolous or lie or slur and never saw doeboy views as any of that but maybe some people are to sensitive.
and re all matt crutwell fault lol i think that is why he aint here anymore cos that what management think when we lost to Dorking when fact is we could have ended up with a whole new team!
ok john fair enough but still think in general people should be able to say there view so long as not scandolous or lie or slur and never saw doeboy views as any of that but maybe some people are to sensitive.
Not so Peter, a while ago I left this forum as a direct result of doeboy insulting me, I realised I had made a mistake quite a while later, 1, because I had enjoyed being part of it, although not posting much, and 2, because I was not going to let a bully win, and by the way I think maybe the moderators could have said something, but I did come back and now I watch from a distance, but can have a say now and again, it`s a good forum, which most of the time is informative and entertaining (just not at the moment).
Around the 20th February, Garry stated in his programe notes that Joe Taylor had signed for the season so presume that if he has recovered from his illness and will take over.
He certainly has recovered Peter, he was apparently man of the match playing for Wealdstone against Maidenhead on Saturday in National South. According to Non League Paper.
Played a couple of games for them recently it looks like? if he has re-signed for Wealdstone then would imagine a deal to keep Girling until end of season would hopefully be struck.
I understood Taylor was with Wealdstone originally and dual registered with us. So they would not need to re-sign him to play him & if he is not required by them neither would we.
I don't think I'm giving anything away when I say that Josh's injury will indeed rule him out for the remainder of the season and possibly a fair bit of next season too.
I see I was Girling Last game for us today. Shame we couldn't work another month out with millwall for him. Well hope he dose well but who will we get next though
Well we have known about Josh for weeks so if we have not made other plans that is pretty poor from the club. They must know about this and surely have another keeper planned, don't they?
Oh my goodness, get over it Doeboy! We moved on from that ages ago 😴😴😴
It even said in the back of this weeks observer that he'd signed a loan extension. Shame to lose him if it is the case, seemed a very safe pair of hands in the six games he played for us.
Millwall had agreed an extension however recalled him on Friday but allowed him to play yesterday. This has come about because Millwall have sent their other U21 keeper out on loan and now require Harry back.
There is no need to panic about cover, Garry and Danny have it all in hand.
What's a mess about a pro club recalling their player, surely as a 101 year old ex pro your wise head that is full of knowledge undestands that these situations arise?
Not the first or the last time that players get recalled early. Not the first or last time that doeboy makes a rather pointless comment. Our minimum target this year was to get into the play-offs and we're on target to achieve this. I'm not bothered who's in goal - I trust the management team to deal with it. Let's move on and leave doeboy to wallow in his own negativity. When it comes to the end of the season, I suggest that those who are positive about the future of the club will considerably outweigh those who seem to, whether through bitterness or jealousy, want us to fail.
