Game of two halves today. First half was dismal with the highlight being a twenty man brawl whilst the second half was much better and we won very comfortably without setting the world alight.
Really nice, friendly little ground with a great clubhouse and great playing surface but the football didn't match. The first half was really bitty with no quality from either side not helped again by a below par referee. Hastings took the lead midway through the half with Jerome Smith heading in a Sam Adams corner. Apart from that very little else either end but a couple of decent fights towards the end of the half kept us all awake.
Second half was much better and Hastings pretty much dominated without playing any free flowing football. Once again Sam Adams was the provider for a towering Razor header and he repeated it once again ten minutes later. The rest of the game was very comfortable and I cant actually remember either keeper having a save to make over the 90mins.
Positives today were an excellent debut from Ollie Rowe, Vickers back close to his best and of course Razor who was easily the best player on the pitch both defensively and offensively. And hate to be proved right about Sam Adams back on the set pieces as he made all three goals.
We still appear to lack any creativity in midfield and the service to Zac and Jack was non existent which must be a worry as the two front boys are having no opportunity to forge a partnership and really looked totally ineffective today.
But a great win today as these games are never easy and with a nice home draw coming up next i'm looking forward to another memorable cup run this season.
Best bit of the day was our supporters having a workout behind the Cray goal and getting the ball back from one of their management when he saw it was one of Hasting's.
Seriously now a good result but not much football. I thought Cray were over physical and the ref seemed to be dominated by their agressive shouting and posturing. The guy who slammed his elbow into Jack Harris' s head should have got a straight red but the only card I saw went to either Zac or Razor in the first half after Zac had been fouled.
Great to see Razor getting goals again and a clean sheet as well.
As John said a nice ground and decent people and the pitch puts many a Ryman ground to shame.
To me game summed up in 2 words. "Job Done"
What I don't understand is clubs who are not prepared to give it a go and are happy to settle for a respectable defeat.
Not much more can be added really, a scrappy first half, I thought that Cray did themselves no favours with their constant moaning during the first half. Human nature tells you that if you consistently moan and argue with the ref he's not going to do you any favours. Second half thankfully that seemed to stop and some good football was played although neither keeper was seriously tested. Their manager didn't have many complaints and said it as it was. audioboom.com/boos/3516030-the-millers-0-hastings-united-3
I saw that also Bert, I can understand Colbran resigning after hearing the stories on the opening day of the season but sacking a manager so early into the season is a bit silly, give him another month and review it then.
