Really shocked at this news .Jeremy has been one of the few councillors to show a genuine interest in our club . I only spoke to him as recently as the Faversham game .He was sitting just beyond the barrier on the grass bank ,, we joked that we would tell the council of him ,  such a nice guy too.   Twitter was alive with condolences for his family last night , I can only echo mine

Very sad indeed. I didn't know him well; but I had a brief conversation with him a couple of months ago in the town centre and said I was pleased he came to Pilot Field from time to time and hoped to see him there again soon. Sadly not to be.

I was numb with shock when I heard the news, very sad. Whatever your political views Hastings has lost someone who loved this town, a true ambassador. RIP Jeremy.

Thoroughly decent and approachable bloke - almost wasted in the b/s world of politics. And United have lost a supporter too. All very sad.

Very sad news, regardless of what Hastings Borough Council did or didn't do to help the club, Jeremy Birch was a United fan and unlike some local political figures over the years, came to the Pilot Field to support the team not for political reasons.

really surprised that the club did not think it was needed to do a minute silence for Jeremy and a tribute to him in programme. As was said at time he was a top guy and a very loyal supporter and know there have been many other supporters that passed away and get a minute silence so poor from the club that this was not done for Jeremy

Yes I totally agree with you Peter, I think before our next Home Saturday game against Hythe we should have a minute's silence and a mention in the match day programme!
What do other people think of this?

Peter i agree hedeserves the respect he was at nearly every game seems he's been forgotton but not by all Mr Director Pat Mcrosson is this something we can put to the directors or even Barry as he's a man of his word I would find out

I think its a bit unfair to say that the club has forgotten Jeremy. As you recall his untimely death happened just after the season had finished and the club paid tribute to him via the the website sending condolences to his family and recognising his regular presence at The Pilot Field and the tireless work he did for the town of Hastings.
I am certain that if Jeremy had passed away during the playing season then we would of had a minutes silence or applause whichever his family would of wanted. With the utmost of respect, three months have past since and these sort of tributes are best done at the earliest opportunity.
The tragic incident at the hospice in which we paid tribute not only to our loyal supporter David Denness but to all who tragically lost their lives was an example of that, where we were able to show our respects within a matter of a week or two of their passing. As I said we paid tribute to Jeremy in the only way we could that was possible at the time, I personally don't think that a minutes applause now would be as fitting.

dont agree lenny, a minute silence can be done at first opportunity and that was at first friendly or first league game. it was right to do website story but still for all supporters to stand at pilot field together and remember and give Jeremy the respect he deserved would have been correct. to late now as it will look like an afterthought

Maybe the answer would be to have a tribute on his birthday or as near to the 1st anniversary of his untimely death as possible.
