After the draw against Tooting you may say we have another big match against HerneBay.jpg

The visitors are currently on place 6 in the table, just outside the play offs with 42 games played, won 19 , drew 8 and lost 15.

A rather strange goal difference : 60 goals scored, 61 goals conceded.

From their last 8 away games they got 20 points ! Won 6 and drew 2.

And we ? After a better performance last Saturday we will now face a team who is in a very good run. From their last 13 games they got only one defeat against Burgess Hill. We got only 6 points of our last 8 home games and our last victory at the Pilot Field was a 1-0 win against Ramsgate on January 19!

Problem is obvious we score not enough and if we got behind in a match then it is so difficult to bounce back. Luckily Tyrell TyrellRichardsonBrown3.jpg

did that last Saturday with a good header and still with the promise that we will strengthen our squad and most of all upfront we will be so as always optimistic!

Come on your U'ssssssssssssssssssssss!

Hoping that Marlon Patterson can take advantage of their seemingly dodgy defence. To have a goal difference of -1 at this stage of the season and in their place in the table is odd. Seems to me that they've been only just scraping results together this season, but would be good to see what Patterson can do on a home debut.

Roy was right about Patterson though, known primarily as a LB! Not sure if we should be hanging out hopes on him to score lots of goals tbh mate as according to Wikipedia he played 100 games for bromley without scoring! ( prob wrong! )

Surprises me that he was a LB. He looked a natural as attacking mid and set up a few chances as well. I would love to know how many assists he's had because it wouldn't surprise me if he sets up a few chances .

Very surprised if he is a left back. He looks comfortable and dangerous up front.

I agree with Pat and Liam. he looked very comfortable either out wide on the left or in centre midfield. If he has been playing left back I think that shows how few players there are who are naturals in that position. Sam Crutwell is an obvious example, maybe these guys are just an example of players who will do what is needed for the club despite their own inclinations.

Well he's certainly experienced and apparently was Bromley's Captain so a good sign that he has the right kind of character for us now!

So much for the seemingly dodgy defence comment Liam. 2nd best away record in the league since Xmas and best defensive record. And we don't have an out and out striker at the club. Happy days!!

I was fine until I spoke to you at home to Horsham. I've caught the grumpy Pat syndrome no. To be honest Pat, I admire everyone's renewed vigour and excitement after Saturday but I am trying to keep my feet firmly on the ground. Tooting had won 2 of their last 12 home games and we played 10 men for 75 minutes, equalising in injury time. I then read the same old comments about the passion being back, we've turned the corner and we'll be safe, Hastingsbuoy even said  "sounds like something is working to get the passion back". Well we had plenty of passion against Burgess Hill and then put in a shocker at home to East Grinstead. We had passion at Merstham and were then poor for the next four. We had passion at Guernsey and then put in arguably our two worst performances for many a year against Carshalton and Horsham. So I am not quite as excited as everyone else and by talking about Herne Bay's dodgy defence will only set certain people off into a state of frenzy. They may well have shipped a few earlier in the season but away from home they are as tight as any team in the league and are on a great run of late. I would be more concerned about why a team is only able to show passion, skill, effort, heart or whatever else you want to call it once every 4 or 5 games. Why is that?? Liam's comments also show you why he is bottom of the predict 6 table!!

A simple " shut up Pat" would have done!!

I do agree - mustn't get carried away. We need to build on the performance from Saturday and there is absolutely no room for a relapse.

Still think we're waaaay too light upfront and fear it will bite us big time unless something big happens tomorrow but just can't see it!

Something big might happen tomorrow but don't think it will be a striker. What happened to Rabiu he was a striker wasn't he? I have never known a club like it where a player is signed, plays one game and then disappears!

I'd like to think we may get some encouraging news tomorrow but I'm not holding my breath. Can't help thinking we'll need to find a win somewhere to give ourselves a chance.
No doubt we'll all be watching East Grinstead's winnable home game against South Park tomorrow and hoping Ramsgate get nothing from their tough two away games in three days.
I feel this is going to the wire and right now I'd take needing a point from our last game to survive.

At this stage, there are 2 things in our favour - firstly, the teams around us appear as incapable of winning as we are, and secondly, we obviously showed a bit more fight at Tooting. At last we had a go and upset a few people. I personally would prefer not going into our last game needing a point, because given the disastrous season we've had, we'd probably lose to a 93rd minute deflection/dubious penalty. That would certainly be the final nail in the coffin.

Must admit it was exactly like that last season with Sittingbourne grabbing a 93rd minute equaliser against Burgess Hill sending us into the play offs and them out. I certainly would prefer to be safe by the last game but have a horrible feeling it may be just like that.

After Ramsgates win just a few minutes ago away against Merstham HU tomorrow's game will be almost crucial.

Not almost Bert it is crucial. We need wins and I don't care how we get them.

To try to be positive: If - and of course it's a huge 'if' - we get 4 points this Easter our position will be transformed. We won't be in the clear by any means but our fate will be back in our own hands.

10 points and 11 goals from 14 games in charge and we now reckon we'll get 9 points in 5 and score 9 in the process, without a centre forward may I add. I do admire your confidence guys.

Huge 3 points today and a massive improvement on past performances. To be fair Herne Bay were very poor but we never stopped running for 90 minutes and possibly should have won a lot easier with Josh barely making a save during the 90mins. Razor and JJ were magnificent at the back and Patterson looked dangerous every time he was on the ball. The only negative today was Turner at left back, he was really poor throughout and I don't think any of us would have complained if the ref had given a penalty for a stupid push in the 90th minute. Think I would rather have young Sam there for the remainder. But a good day and great to see so many old faces back at the Pilot Field today and didn't Dave O look smartbiggrin

John: Very much agree with all that you have to say above. Three really important points!! Also, I thought Brinkhurst was terrific in the first half when going forward but was much less visible in the second; although I thought Bankole had a good game throughout and I would have given him MoM. I must say I didn't see the late penalty claim by HB as credible, but Turner did indeed have a very poor game and the referee made some 'surprising' decisions so perhaps it was indeed a let off....

What an excellent start for Dave O!!

Yeah, much, much better. Josh seemed to slip into his old role and looked fitter than when he retuned last season and he and Razor gave Josh great protection. Agree that the left back position is still a big worry but not sure I'd put young Sam back there. He looked far more comfortable in midfield and, I thought he had a great first half spraying balls left and right.
Much better effort and commitment all round and far more optimistic than I was this time two week ago. But, as always happens, teams around us have started collecting points so there's still a long way to go.
At the moment, I'm just enjoying the feeling of winning again. I forgot what it felt like,

Great result today we need to push on now with the same again on Monday afternoon. JJ I thought was the difference we've missed at the back this season it was great to see Razor and JJ back together again.
I didn't think their last minute shout for a penalty was anything other than a hopeful attempt to fool the ref. as for the left back problem when does the county fixtures finish because I know that Russell Eldridge would fill that role comfortably? He may be getting to the twilight of his career but he can still play.

Well done lads a great boost to our chances of survival now let's win Monday and increase that gap.

Really can't agree with the above at all.Sorry to sound negative (as usual) but we have absolutely nothing going forward and were very lucky to find Herne Bay lacking ambition also.Should have had two penalties for handball in the first half and possibly for the rash challenge on Brinkhurst in the second. Scored a lucky goal to win the game so hope our luck will change but wouldn't bank on it

Thought we were the better side, and with a striker it would have been a comfortable win. If we had played like that all season we would have been mid table. But great to win and we must avoid defeat on Monday.

Darren: I really don't think it right to say we had 'nothing going forward'. Certainly our finishing still needs to be improved , but we created far more opportunities than we did against (say) Horsham and Corinthian Casuals.

Excellent result....its ours to lose now...we now have the advantage .....so lets get over to ramsgate and put them under pressure....things seem alot rosier this weekend than 2 weeks ago....2 easy away games coming up so lets go for it and see the season out with bang...there is light at the end of this tunnel!!!!

Crucial win, and compared to the dross we've seen this year, that was much better. Teams at the bottom starting to pick up points, I see 3 sides on 48 points that might, although unlikely, get dragged into it. Monday is just HUGE!!

Looking at the run ins, although much happier with the side, I still think it's going to be tough to survive, but you can't predict any results in this crazy league! It's gonna be a horrible nervous next 4 games . . .

Much better. Saw more passes strung together than I have all season (in total!)
I thought Sam was great in the middle of the park and was surprised when he was withdrawn. If only he had played there all year.
