With only 10 games left ( and 30 points to win on a positive note ) we are now facing the island footballers of
Guernsey are currently the number 9 in the table with 34 games played. They won 15 drew 4 and lost 15. Got 49 points , scored 70 and conceded 76 goals. Top scorer is Marc McGrath with 18 goals. ( picture from Guernsey website )
On October 11, 2014 we won our home game 4-1. After 2-1 we scored 2 goals in the last minutes of the game. Hat trick Pogue and one from Ade.
Guernsey played 17 home games this season, won 9, drew 3 and lost 5. From their last 8 games they won 7 (!) They lost only against Burgess Hill.
And we ? After another bad week with a home defeat against Corinthian Casuals, the departure of Taser Hassan and all around The Pilot Field a smell of negativity we have to win some points. You can't depend on other teams; you will have to win the points yourself.
That means 100% effort, no less. If the supporters see the team and staff give all they have then i am sure all will/are behind the team. We are not relegated yet !!!
Blimey...is Guernsey that bad? Are injections required pre-travel? Or is just in case we suffer from hypertension when we have a shot on goal? By the way, in The Most Positive Bloke in the World competition, vote Bert. No contest. A true fan. Hats off to you.
There are two takes on this, and you can choose either.
some of us had a dream of a democratically run club where volunteers contributions were embraced, where decisions were democratically made with supporter representation on the board, where effective community partnerships were established including the council and where values were explicit and not solely determined by the bottom line. When decline occurs, because of the ethos and engagement everyone pulls together in a no blame culture to get out of trouble
the second take is that if it is run as a business by a few, without all of the above, it is simply a failing business, with all of the consequences that follow when a business fails.
my own experience of business is that how you do things is as important as what you do
I'm starting to consider relegation as an opportunity to completely rebuild and restructure. If we stay up, it'll be same old - lots of bold talk about play-offs, Conference South etc. but the same old approach that has seen us apparently waste the biggest opportunity for many a year. I may be wrong but I cannot see that the current regime would have many advocates if we get relegated, and even the staunchest supporters of the present ownership are seemingly, with a couple of notable exceptions (and I fully respect their views), just starting to question the state we are in. It's been well-documented on this forum just how depressing the PF is at the moment, and it will take a massive sea-change to turn things around. My only hope is that if there is a fundamentally crucial decision to be made with regard to the future of the club, those involved are brave enough to make it. There is no disgrace in saying that every avenue has been explored, all options have been considered and every effort made to improve, all without making progress. There is no disgrace in seeking a successor to try something else. I believe that time is just around the corner - otherwise, IMO, the club's future is every bit as uncertain as the weather.
Fair play to anyone making the trip this weekend! The Channel Islanders have found good form of late, winning all of their last four home game. We've only won one of our last four away game (Horsham). Their prolific striker also returns, Ross Allen, who scored their first goal last weekend. It's certainly going to be a very tough test.
Don't forget it's a 7:45pm kick off due to ground sharing!

Thats what we said about Faversham and we smashed them 5.0.....anything is possible...tough..yes...but not impossible! Recon a lucky point might be possible.?
I'd be well happy with a point here but not holding out great hope even for that with the way things are at the moment with the squad. Still short in several areas.
I hope Tasers wages are reinvested fully in a single attacking option.
You have to wonder if NK is living on a different planet to the rest of us. He quotes in this morning Observer he is not panicking!! He says "of our 10 remaining games 6 are away from home and we play better away from home, I'm not panicking". Not sure about anyone else but I would feel a hundred times better if he came out and said something like " we were extremely poor on Monday and we are right in the relegation mix, we have some tough games remaining but I have every confidence in my players and am hopeful of 2or3 signings to see us through, and with the support of our magnificent fans I am confident we will get out this mess". Sadly there is no mention of the like and the players disgraceful performance on Monday, and his only mention of the fans is to say Taser was slightly upset with what was shouted by supporters.
Never mind, great to hear Nigel is chasing a player from Ringmer to add to young Willett from Westfield. Things starting to look up and I knew the quality signings would eventually come with his wide range of contacts.
You couldn't make it up could you? Ringmer?? We need three or four players in from a higher level who maybe have a point to prove and are ready to roll their sleeves up.

Sorry Pat, but I would be amazed if there's anybody from a higher level who would want to join a relegation dogfight. And players aren't stupid...like managers...they talk to each other. I hope I'm proved wrong, but if we were likely to get influential signings, they'd be here by now.
I'm not naive enough to think that there are lots of players out there overthehill because I've been around long enough to know how hard it is. There are some though who will have a point to prove - that's all I'm saying.
total agree john. Ringmer! Overthehill is right we wont get player from higher even same level or influential not when we have a manager that has no respect. He been here nearly 2 month and we have less numbers and quality than when dom left and we was weak then and struggle for players but now is worse team i can remember see at pilot field. he is not panicing i expect he still think we finish in top half. what a joke.
Was just wondering who that was myself Dan, no player turns up on google for Noir Golden, Kyle Holden perhaps?
I thought you were supposed to be at a party anyway? :)

It,s Noir Gordon must be one of the youth team players.
Could have been more than two points lost Matt, both pens were missed at 0-0 who knows if we could have held on after gaining the lead in both cases?.......
fantastic effort from defence to attack and I haven't said that for a while.Obviously we contributed to our own downfall but I came away from the game with a bit of pride and feel encouraged for the remaining games.
Back in hotel bar. Not going to get involved in who should be manager, but this was a fantastic effort on an absolutely appalling night, weather wise . Every player gave everything and would be unfair to pick a player of the match. On another day we could have got a well earned draw, but not to be.
For those who have not been to Guernsey the atmosphere is terrific....trumpet players, non stop singing and chanting all in good humour. the only downside was that I did not win the 50/50...... £239.00,
Disappointing not to get a result but at lest the reports from Guernsey give us hope for the remaining games.
Just how many games have we lost by a single goal this season I wonder ? That's the difference between safety and the current relegation trauma.
It seems tough that on a day that the players(& supporters) have travelled a lot of miles and clearly put in a decent effort that we should have slipped even closer to the drop.
I feel we desperately need some home points to get us believing again.
Great to hear it was a good performance but the hard fact is already that probably if either of the two teams below us perform a bit better than us in their remaining games now we are down and reliant on clubs not coming up. 😔
This was a game we thought we would lose and at most would have been delighted with a draw. So a one nil loss is not as bad as it seems. Any greater defeat would have been bad news for our goal difference and this may well be very significant. Wasnt at the game but sounds like we were unlucky and gave a good account of ourselves. Im like the manager on this and not panicking. Horsham lost by 5 and we still have to play them..although redhill have games in hand they have some difficult games. Right now id be happy if yesterday was the last game of the season.....end this nightmare of a season and build for next season when we get promoted out of this awful division.
When he stepped up to take it,I jokingly said the ball wouldn't make it to the six yard box because of the conditions. It just about made it to the goalkeeper but probably wouldn't have gone any further
Just watched the highlights and still think that it's clear to see that Timmy won the ball and the player then went over. I thought on Saturday that their goal had a suspicion of offside and I think that could of been the case regardless whether the player didn't touch the ball, he was in front of Pells so most defiantly interfering with play.
Regardless the boys showed some real attitude Saturday night and it's paramount now that they take that into the remaining games left especially the home games, I believe with the determination shown we may just escape the drop but it's going to be a big ask.
Great to see a good number of Hastings supporters at the game, I've seen less away support at The Pilot Field well done to all of you for making the journey and going along on such an awful night for football.
Well said Barry. I agree with you on all your points especially about the goal. As Bill Shankley said "If you're not interfering with play, you shouldn't be playing." I may have mangled the quote but you get my point.
