Just a thread to throw names around! Mark and John at the moment...personally I wouldn't mind seeing Mark be given the job; Hastings through and through. Although someone said in the other thread that we should get someone with no background with Hastings, not a bad idea in my opinion - just need someone with experience and contacts to bring strong players in.
Also, means nothing, but I know the Lewes game was off yesterday, but did anyone else see Garry Wilson..?
The only objective which remains for this season is to stay in this league. While I never believed that the players we had assembled at any point of this season were good enough as a group to get us automatic promotion, I think the current group of players showed yesterday they are good enough, if motivated, to ensure that we stay up. I think Mark has shown huge loyalty to the club and demonstrated that he and John can provide that necessary motivation. My suggestion to those who decide these things is to confirm Mark and John in position until the end of the season with the simple brief of keeping us up. Yes, Mark might need to shore up one or two positions but I don't believe that wholesale change of players is necessary or desirable to achieve that objective.
I really doubt that advertisement for the position of manager at this point would attract a better candidate, given our recent procession of managers and the consequent negative view which prospective candidates might have of joining us.
Next season is another matter. For that, since over recent years we appear to have tried without success just about every type of manager / coach realistically available to us, the club needs to think carefully about what it wants to achieve and how best to go about it. We need to make a permanent appointment by the end of this season so that whoever is chosen can get his players in place in the close season.
Excellent post, Geoff. I totally agree.
For once, let's try to get a settled team made up of players committed to the cause. Tim and Jordan will be added to yesterday's squad and, as you say, we may just need to add a couple more players to bring a bit more quality.
Personally, I think the last thing we want is someone new who is going to try to make his mark by chopping and changing and bringing in lots of his new players in new untried formations.....none of whom give a damn about the club.
Let's give Mark our full support to work with the good club players we have and I'm sure we will survive.
I heard an excellent name mentioned yesterday, ex Tonbridge Angels boss Tommy Warrilow. He has just left his scouting job at Ebbsfleet so is unemployed, will have excellent connections from his recent scouting, has age on his side and lives fairly local. I believe he was in charge when we took John Maggs from his role at Tonbridge. No harm in speaking to the man is there?
Totally agree with Geoff and Mick, lets keep Mark and John in position for the rest of the season. IMO appointing a new Manager at this stage of the season would be sheer stupidity.
With Sean and Ade on the pitch Hastings have more than enough managerial experience. No point appointing anyone else- they would only last a few months anyway
There were a number of non league managers at the game yesterday, in the main I expect due most other games in Sussex being off.
Interestingly One manager who was there who is currently out of work was Darren Freeman the former Whitehawk manager who took them from the county league to the Conference South.
IMO could be a good choice someone the players don't really know and with lots of contacts Having managed at a higher level.

Yes, let's give the job to the Football Development Assistant!! Give me a break. No doubt he is 100% club at heart but seriously! I am sure he would shout until he can't breathe but 1st team manager - not me for me!
If you are looking from within Ade as player/manager, if not get someone in, even if is a quick fix for the end of the season.
I'm really surprised that people think appointing a new manager now could be a problem. There are 19 games remaining and 57 points up for grabs.Dom was only here for 17 himself. Not often I disagree with Mr O but just can't see how appointing a new man in the first week of January is sheer stupidity. We've had way too many caretaker managers over the years, so just give it to Stapley now if they think he's the man or get interviewing on the quick. We already know Darren Freeman and Tommy Warrilow are free so there's two for a start.

As Geoff says we have one simple ambition for this season......to not get relegated. Yesterday proved that with a settled side of committed players this should be comfortably achievable. Surely THIS was the problem with Dom's time in charge. The team, the formation, the tactics and even the size of the bloody pitch were tinkered with in an attempt to change our fortunes. Players of known quality left and County players were pulled in.
I'm sure Dom got the job by impressing the panel with his self confidence and new ideas....but I feel he neither had the experience to recognise the quality of players needed nor the contacts to bring in anyone who would make a real difference on the pitch. And so we stumbled from match to match with no-one actually knowing where or even if they would be playing in the next game. The farcical outcome at Hythe where we barely managed to get a team on the pitch surely was the season's lowest point !
Clearly the team has lacked the stability it needs for success which is why I believe we need Mark to take us through to the end of season and not bring in anyone new who is going shuffle the pack all over again. In the meantime, the board should be putting out feelers for a permanent appointment in May. Many more players will be 'available' in the close season so we need someone in place as soon as the season ends to start the rebuilding process.....obviously starting with the best of what we have now.
I can see your point of view John, but I stand by what I said on my previous post. I would like Mark and John to be given the position to see us through to the end of the season. However despite what Geoff, Mick, myself and others would like to see happen, I think the selecting panel will appoint a new Manager. Being a betting person my money will be on Darren Freeman being appointed.
I agree with Dave O (to a point). There's no doubt in my mind that Mark and John should be given the opportunity to take this on and attempt to keep the club up. As far as what happens at the end of the season goes, I dare say that (again) Dave is right and the panel will appoint a new manager. However, should we stay up (or better) I sincerely hope that this will be taken into account when selecting a new management team.
Warrilow new manager at Cray. Freeman good shout but has he applyed?
Mark and John did great job on Saturday but have they got what it take to eventualy get promotions. not sure. agree all the choping and changing that Dom made was unsettleing and no surprise results and performance was poor. easy decsion is to let mark and john have a go that if they want to? but i think better like john w that we get a manager in that will be here next season to as we need to build now for next season and sure think that we cant be unlucky to get another manager in that would make same mistakes as dom. the panel made brave decision with dom and most of us agreed but turned out bad with his inexperience and not being mature enough to manage. so i would like new manager to be a little older with experience of this level at least but think it it important that if a local man not given job that someone like mark is part of management team that know players in hastings
You cannot help being impressed reading that CV and his hunger to get back into football. Ready made replacement in my mind and all the attributes to be a very successful manager at the Pilot Field.
One thing I will say as well, if he was indeed there on Saturday he must have been impressed with the crowd and atmosphere, especially coming from that morgue at Whitehawk.
Simon is a Manager who will do well with the sort of budget we can offer. He's only based in T.Wells so just a short hack down the A21 & experienced in this division. His contacts would all be realistic from a logisitical point of view but would he be tempted away from his current project at Tunbridge Wells FC?
I might be wrong, and this isn't stating facts in any way, but wasn't Darren's team at Whitehawk bankrolled from County League to Conference South by an ambitious, well-organised Board with significant financial resources? Or was that just a rumour? I seem to remember murmurings from somewhere that his County League budget was extraordinary? That said, proven pedigree, he'd be a real catch for us.

of course you know Ryeman, so has he lot of experience, is he local or from further away.
overhill good point about freeman but we meant to have high budget for this league but could we keep that going in future. still think he could be decent if he applied. hope interview panel are brave again and get a man with a bit more experience that has done it at this level and higher and has more contact than county league players
