After the two losses yesterday we will now play against unbeaten
Not only the very, very unwelcome loss against Hythe Town but the departure of Dom Di Paola leaves the club in a vacuum.
Paola leaves the club at a moment where Hastings United has slipped to the 20th position in the table and words as ..no fitness enough of the players, not enough players on the bench, no organisation and no commitment are often used words.
He was the man for the job but things didn't worked out. Maybe he hasn't overseen the step he had to take from a small club to a big club.
For the rest... feel sorry for the club again... the volunteers and supporters.
With this game coming up i always want to be optimistic... but also realistic.
Hope it will not be a very big disappointment again. I think there is only one thing important and that is too stay up.
And that with players who are proud to wear the Hastings United shirt.
Pity Burgess Hill today, they may suffer for our frustrations from the past weeks! I think Dom brought in too many county league players that were unable to compete at Ryman level every week. We must get players and manager with Ryman experience now before it is too late.
More positives to take away than previously before. Battled well. The clumsy red card really cost us today. Only lost to a deflection. 2 big games coming up now in the next week
A game that shows when your lucks against you it really is hard to turn it into good luck. Good effort all round today. I'm gutted that we lost to a goal as flukey as that.
Having been pretty disgusted by Thursday's effort I thought this was a far better showing all round and only a total fluke goal robbed us of the point we fully deserved. Burgess Hill actually looked no better than a good number of teams we have seen this season and we matched them all over the pitch throughout. I can only guess they must have had a bad day today and will know they stole the points from us. Then of course there is the ref who did us absolutely no favours today and the red card only came about because he felt he needed to make an impact on the game, booking for trivial offences. Ade was definitely my MotM....not just because he scored but because he played the target man role brilliantly today, winning and holding the ball up for others to join in. The BH defenders will be very pleased they won't be facing him next week as he gave them a really torrid time. No surprise whatsoever that Farmer has disappeared. (Baaaah! ) Can I assume that Keehan has gone the same way ? Ironically Archibald who has been the least impressive of everyone who has 'popped in' from West Sussex is still with us ! One other comment...please can Logan not take any more free kicks around the opponent's area. I'm afraid it has to be said......there appeared to be much greater desire today than I have seen for a while. If we play like we did today for the rest of the season we will be safe from relegation.
Yes, today we were genuinely unlucky not to get a point. A true fluke goal for BH's winner. The team battled well and although there could be little argument about the second yellow card which led to the red, we were again on the wrong end of more than a few questionable decisions. Strong performances I thought from Ade, and both Sams; but some predictable weaknesses elsewhere. If we play with this spirit we will not be playing County League next season.
Certainly a better performance and effort today and the players should be proud of their efforts but sadly still no cutting edge and our passing continues to be average at best. Didn't think Burgess Hill were light years ahead of us but also felt they could always step up a gear if required. As on Thursday I thought Tom was our best player and defensively we looked as solid as we have all season but Taser continues to drive us all mad with his final ball whilst Evan still does not look good enough, although he does try hard and fair play to him for sticking it out when Keehan and Farmer have decided to move on. Gutted when the late winner went in as I thought we deserved a point but today was always going to be damage limitation in my mind and the next 2 fixtures are now absolute must wins. Well done to Stapes for getting the lads up for today at the end of an incredibly difficult week.
As others have said not much in the way of luck for Hastings today. Showed good spirit throughout and stuck together well as a team. Our next 2 games will be a real test for Hastings- need to show the same determination and effort and hope things go our way.
Glad we got this one out of the way to be honest and anything from it would have been a bonus...green shoots of recovery maybe? or are we are just pleased we didn't get trounced 5.0 so losing by a small margin didn't seem too bad. Great to see some spirit back in the team at last, actually looked like they wanted to play today.
Massive game now against managerless Horsham now next week, a team who have only managed to win on 4 occasions this season and the first team in the division that have come adrift from the pack. County league now looking a deed cert for them. Biggest challenge for us will be playing on their ploughed field which they groundshare with Hosham YMCA. Think if we get 4 points from next 2 games we will be ok as it looks as though Horsham and Redhill are now becoming new year relegation favourites. Not sure who will occupy that final place though.....
To be fair to Farmer I'm lead to believe his intention was to talk to Dom about quitting playing anyway due to the fact his wife is expecting a baby in the near future and has to commit to work for financial reasons. Kevin is struggling with a quad problem and may just be taking the opportunity to rest his injury. I know he's very frustrated with the injury and once fit again I would love to see him back, imo one of the best signings Dom made.
Burgess Hills match report is a little bit favourable towards them, I understand that some clubs always want to seem as if they were the better side but the bit about their winner mentions nothing about the wicked deflection off Vickers head which was so clear to everyone in the ground and was obviously instrumental in the winner. Gives us a bit of credit please.
much better we look like we knew what system we was playing more organised and effort and teamwork 100% better. should of had a point and a lucky goal was the only difference and we play 20 minutes one man down. thought wed struggle to get team out today. well done mark and john good to see a full bench. the football and effort from players made difference to on terraces and good to hear supporters geting behind the team and making atmosphere unlike burgess hill ones who made no noise at all surprise when they have a good season
Agree with Barry, dreadful report from Burgess Hill. It's like some lucky girl won the half time raffle to write the report. Poorly written and inaccuracies throughout the report. Wasn't Ade's equaliser a header to the keepers right, not a shot into the top corner? Perhaps she was watching in between knitting. Makes you thankful for Sean's excellent, informative and un biased reporting.
Much more of a positive performance and it looked like the boys actually wanted it. If we go to Horsham on Wednesday and play how we did yesterday (providing we actually take our chances), we should ease to three points.
Also massive credit has to go to Simon and co for getting the pitch fit for football. Absolutely outstanding efforts once again!
