Guernsey on Saturday - Dom's first game in charge.

Guernsey lost 2-0 to Burgess Hill a the weekend. Ross Allen was injured, but don't know whether or not he'll be back for the weekend. He's only played two or three this season I think and scores something like 8/9 goals.

Guernsey sit in 9th with 21 points and we're 9 points behind in 21st...one point above the relegation zone.

What do we think? Would love to see Dom get of to a winning start, as I'm sure we all would!

Well Liam if he has seen any of Dan's videos, who knows who will be playing as I would imagine he demands 100% effort, something some of our players don't understand. Can't see how he can turn it round with existing players all staying. All I hope at this stage is players give him a chance.

Think all the players should get a chance initially to show if they can thrive under his style of management. Different types of managers can get totally different performances out of of players who underperform. If they don't improve then yep changes will need to ( and sure will be ) made.

As we all know though the squad needs strengthening regardless anyway so hopefully we'll see a couple of new faces in the squad after Saturdays game ( assume not enough time to get anyone at a club already in due to 7 day letters as Chris mentioned )

Let's hope we get a real 'bounce' effect this time with players wanting to show Dom their worth.

I very much agree with your comments above Dan. I really hope that at least one or two of the under-performing players will respond and show that they can play much better. Of course, some players who can't or won't respond might choose to jump rather than await the push; but I expect it will take Dom a few games (particularly given our wildly erratic performances) to sort those he wishes to keep from those he doesn't.

All our players are potentially good, unfortunately not all our players know how to or want to play to their potential. If the new manager can realise this potential we may see a different team and better results!

Welcome to the club Dom.
Whoever plays lets get behind Dom and the lads and become the Pilot Field 12th man of old.

After the treble of misery inflicted on us by Guernsey last season - I still shake my head at that 0-4 league hammering at the Pilot Field where we played 50 minutes outstanding stuff for no reward - could there be a more appropriate day than this Saturday to conjure up something special with the new man in charge for the first time?

Stranger things etc etc.......

Let's hope Dom can produce a change of emphasis and fortune on Saturday and for the rest of the season.

I think we can't asked from him to change all what went wrong within a week. Give Dom some time, are there new players coming, they have to fit in etc.

Why's guernseys forum so empty?! Can't even pass the time by spying on them! You'd think with gates of 750+ they'd want to discuss something? But no nothing!

Anyone know where Dave Cook has gone? Despite his poor performances and equally poor attitude at times, i'm a tad disappointed he didn't stick it out and prove to Dom and the fans what a good player he still is.

Ross Allen is injured goals 172 in 131 games this season 8 in 7 games

But Marc Mcgrath will be starting 8 in 14 games this season

what team & formation would you go with? This would be mine for today.

Pelling
Rose - King - Razor - Hand
Bankole - Dolan
Taser - Adams - Crutwell
Ade

Nicely balanced i think

I think Tim needs to be in the mix. Nice to have a selection problem.

Yes, particularly for effort and commitment I always like to see Tim start or on the bench. I prefer to see him play as a defensive midfield player rather than as a centre back; but I would like to see Bankole play in midfield too; so, yes, it's going to be interesting to see who Dom selects for his starting eleven and how he chooses to vary that as the game progresses.

Tough choice between Bankole & Tim, just feel Bankole edges it on recent form. think Keehan will be fighting for one of the MC roles very soon too. Good all rounder.

Fantastic performance. Perfect start and we played some nice stuff against one of the strongest sides on the league. Great to see some passion on the sideline as well! First time for a while ive enjoyed the game, and really think this is the kick start to our season

Fantastic start and what a breath of fresh air hearing Dom speak after the game. Very impressive guy despite his relatively young age, and you cannot help being excited about the future under his leadership.

Yes the score flattered us and it was backs against the wall at times but the team looked more organised, had more energy and there was none of that awful long ball stuff that has bored the pants of us for 2seasons and how nice to see good substitutions at the right times and the right players. Don't think there were any outstanding individual performances, just a good team effort, but thought Ronnie may have just edged MOM in my opinion. The new boys looked fantastic and in Keehan we may just have what we have missing for a long time, he was very impressive.

So great start considering the time he has had with the players and can't wait for East Grinstead on Tuesday. Well done Dom!

Thought Josh's save at 2-1 was vital for our win and was probably enough to convince a Guernsey team lacking their talisman that it wasn't their day. Sam Adams was excellent as usual but well done to all the team and management for an important 3 points.

Vital save from Josh and fantastic goal line clearance at start of second half proved to be turning points before we got into our stride. If ever a team is carried by one player then that is Guernsey I'm afraid. They will struggle without Ross Allen

I sat with a number of Guernsey supporters today who said they actually had FIVE first team regulars missing so, while Allen may have been the key factor, they were weaker in other areas too.
With this in mind, I do think we have to appreciate that, overall, the result really was much better than the performance.
I honestly thought that first half we were pretty woeful and Guernsey pretty well dominated throughout. Second half was better and play was more even but no way did we deserve to win it three nil.
Having said all that, it's time we got a few breaks in both boxes and that's certainly what we got today. My MotM was Razor with captain Sammy taking second place.
I think Dom will be aware that we have a way to go to haul ourselves up the table but, I felt, he spoke with confidence and knowledge and fully deserves the chance to take the reins.....probably his biggest challenge to date.

I agree with John - yes the first half was poor but I think second half we were far superior. Not sure that I agree Mick in that we were the better side on the day. I looked at the team sheet and Guernsey had a pretty strong side out. Of course they missed Allen but in any league you can't be a one trick pony

To be fair they beat us over there last season without Allen. I think there's still a lot of work to be done but it's a positive start and you can't knock that. We need to Be as clinical on Tuesday night as we were today, in front of goal how great was it to see Kenny grab a hatrick? Onwards and upwards.

First half we were as bad as we had been all season and could and should have been behind at half time. However, 2nd half we were the better side tho the scoreline flattered us. But what was refreshing was the manager changed things at half time and it made a difference. I am convinced we now have a manager who can change games without writing a book during the game, or using an iPad. Yes a bit still to do but if players are prepared to listen and learn we may turn things round quickly as its a very poor league we are in.

Yes, the first half was quite poor, we were on the back foot and Guernsey should have been a couple of goals up at the break; but we were still trying to play to a plan and we were still much better than some of the really hopeless performances we have presented earlier in the season. As you say Chris, a good turnaround in the second half; good substitutions and a deserved win (though a somewhat flattering final score line). Particular credit goes to Ade for his vital and really thought out goal. Guernsey looked really out of it in the last 15 minutes which was quite surprising.

Congratulations to Dom on a good start on the pitch and an impressive post match Q and A performance before a very well attended (80 or so) audience in the club house. We mustn't get too carried away, there surely will be some bad days and perhaps bad sequences to come, but the omens look far brighter than they have for quite a long time. Let's celebrate that, and do all we can to keep the momentum going.

4 -1 was hard on guernsey but they did run out of steam at end and think that is credit to our play as we moved ball better and guernsey were having to work hard stop us. overall look better our shape and movement big improvement and first half not great but second half was certainly better than most games this season. the saves even the one that was offside by Pelling were class and please or kenny for his hattrick. could not stay for forum but a mate that did stay said he came over very well. agree with geoff we cant get carried away tho there will be bad day but hope not to many

Great result - mirror image of last season but this time we got two breakaway goals to give an unreal scoreline that didn't reflect a close and no more than an average game. Nobody complaining I'm sure after what Guernsey inflicted on us last season.

Pullan looked sound and the other two new boys looked good too. Decent Bumpkinship players should do well in Ryman South and the new manager sounds the part. Early early days though - he needs time to get his way up and running.

Remember Folkestone last season - if anything, they started worse than we have and they comfortably made the play offs.

Nice one Kenny with the treble.

Really enjoyed yesterday. Well done to Dom and the lads. Very pleased for Kenny with his well taken and deserved hat trick. I thought Ade's goal was top class. Everyone played their part in stopping the losing run. Let's hope this is the start of a very long winning one.
