I did post a couple of these on Twitter a while back, but having a sort out, and came across a few more. Thought I would post them on here, as I know how interesting it is to look back...
The newspaper cutting I think is November 1955 (Work started on the new stand at the Pilot Field this week. It is the first of three to be built.)
I'm pleased that Hastings supporters old and new, find them interesting. I have added a few more. I have other bits and pieces, re: Hastings United (mark 1) and Hastings Town/Hastings United (mark 2). I shall put some of it on here over the next few days... ...but here is a taster.
These are fantastic Vernon ...I particularly like the black n white ones ...can remember sitting on the grass bank from 68' onwards and it was always a great view from up there , as it still is from where my dad still sits there now with the last few die hards that occupy it .... the thing I remember most is that everyone seemed to smoke a pipe up there and that he whole bank would smell great , as well as look great with 300 plus fans sitting on it ...even in the winter we would sit on a plastic ' Disc jokey ' bag to save our bums getting wet !!! I can remember the rusty old crash barriers that had probably been in place since 48' too

It's great looking at The Pilot Field of how it used to be and comparing how it is now. Due to East Sussex rules and regulations it's a shame that we can't allow anyone to use the bank anymore like in the photos, only last night we had to ask a couple of supporters to get off of there. What a H&S world we live in these days. The old days were the best not a care in the world and everyone just got on with life.
It's funny how we all seem to live in the past, and think it was so much better. But I'm sure, people viewing the Harrogate replay pictures in 20 years time, will be making the same sort of comments.
Here is an old fixture card from the 1958,59 season.
I love this Supporters Club Handbook from 1953/54. When you read programmes etc every week, you never really notice the adverts, but if you pick up something that is 60 years old, it's the first thing that jumps out at you!
The fifth player in the back row of the team picture, surname is Ray, does anyone know, if he is related to the current Mr Ray?
