The third team in our pre-season campaign will be Conference South Eastbourne Borough.
They had a turbulent last year : In the spring of 2013, Eastbourne were in talks with Kuwaiti European Holdings (KEH) over a potential take over of the club.Despite negotiations collapsing at the latter stages, Borough pressed on with their plans to develop the club, establishing an Academy which would act as a feeder to the first team.Borough began the 2013-2014season cautiously optimistic, following an 18-month rebuilding process, and stormed to the top of the league after the first month with 10 points from 4 matches, earning Tommy Widdrington the August Manager of the Month award.Their early season form, however, faded and they experienced a dip in mid-season which saw them fall away from the top. Re-grouping after Christmas and managing to maintain a steady stream of points, Eastbourne manoeuvred themselves to the fringes of the play-offs with 8 games remaining. A gruelling run of games against teams in the top-half of the table saw them fall short, finishing the season in 10th place on 58 points.
And Hastings : after the first half against Lewes we played a very good second half resulting in a 2-1 victory. Some new players make already a good entry in the team : Taylor, Haward, Bankole, Cooper and Burton. The defence stood firm and MOTM was ( according to the specialists ) Sam Adams.
Hope a lot of people will find the way again to The Pilot Field before the next 3 games will be away. Enjoy the game.
I'll be happy with a draw on Tuesday evening. Putting ourselves up against quality opposition and not being embarrassed is a sign of how strong a squad we have this campaign. I'm also looking forward to the trip up the A21 to Sevenoaks on Saturday which hopefully will see us grab a few goals and catching up with Judgey and his Dad.
What a fantastic friendly. First half Hastings were battered and could quite easily have been 4 down. Eastbourne were as good as it gets, and looked quicker, stronger and sharper all over the pitch. New boy Shaw had a torrid time at left back and was perhaps at fault for both goals whilst at the other end Hastings barely had a sniff. But what a change 2nd half. The roles were reversed with Hastings sharper all over the pitch and they more than deserved their 2goals for a fantastic performance. Shaw regained his confidence and along with the reborn Ronnie Dolan caused mayhem down the left. Both goals were top quality and Finished by Dave Cook who looks a real find. I was also really impressed with Bankole in midfield. But again Sam Adams was stand out for me. He looks as fit and sharp as I've ever seen him. I thought he might struggle to make the starting eleven this year but on present form must be first on the teamsheet. Finally I must compliment Terry and Ben on their training. For the last 2 games Hastings have got stronger as the game went on and looked much the fitter side against both Lewes and Eastbourne. Really impressed with this pre season so far.
Great effort and good result ,,, not a great fan of friendly matches but only went be nosey at the new players ...very impressed with all , even though we had a 30 minute dodgy spell in the first half . That's what friendly matches are about , iron out the problems . All in all there are some good signs and reasons to be excited about the new season...well done lads
Like Windy I don't normally bother with friendly`s but boy am I glad I did, really entertaining match from both sides, just cant wait for the season to begin, agree with John, well done Terry and Ben.
I really thought by the chances we had in the second half we could of won that by 2 or 3. Temba showed what a great future he has, despite his physical stature lets not forget he's still a teenager and was a little naive at times, playing alongside Frankie and with a squad of vast experience I feel he'll develop very quickly.
Ronnie Dolan is playing so much better this time around and talking to Frankie he even said that he didn't know he had pace like he showed this evening. Once again what I saw a strong defensive performance, I didn't see the two goals but to come from two down to earn a draw is impressive against Borough. I believe that Borough were a much better side than Whitehawk and will finish quite a way above them.
A very impressive performance so far this pre season and I can't wait for Saturdays game.
Well done lads keep it going.
Have to agree with john about Sam Adams . Excellent work rate and attitude and was the outlet that started the move for both goals. Shaw turned round a dismal first half, when others heads might have gone down, and Ronnie Dolan certainly made a difference when replacing the ineffective Taylor.
Three tough games against higher level opposition and a win, a draw and a close loss, got to be happy with that and the performances that went with them!
Looking forward to the 3 away games now against County League sides to hopefully get the forwards and midfielders a chance to get into the habit of scoring!
A great advert for non league football. Well done to both teams. Spoke to several players after the game and the thing that comes through is how happy they are to be in such a good squad and that it has a really good team spirit.
I was impressed with Ronnie when he came on and it showed how playing at full back is so dependant on the quality of the midfielder in front of you. Sam and Ollie were immense as was Jahan but so were all who contributed to a fantastic evenings entertainment.
Finished 2-2 last night, boro were very attack minded from the off but hastings to their credit did defend well, boro could have been 4 or 5 up by half time if not for the woodwork and some great saves by the hastings keeper. 2nd half wasn't so good, experimental changes and quite possibly the heat took its toll on both sides but thats what friendlies are for. Both Hastings goals were very well worked and perhaps our defence could have handled them better but its all still looking positive in my opinion, match sharpness is clearly improving along with the overall fitness of the squad, last nights heat would not have been nice to play in.

Did not think it was that hot last night but as hastings is sunny place in uk maybe eastbourne are not use to sun and warm weather like we are!
Very good game and deserved a draw, as people said Sam was superb but think a lot of good performance and Dolan much better than last season. looks promising for season. no ade again, guess he injured already!
