After the loss against Horsham and reading the reports a game we deserved to loose we now face the current nr. 3 in the table Folkestone Invicta.
They have now 6 points more then us so a win for the home side will secure them a play off place.
The Fullicks Stadium
They have 3 top scorers in the team : Paul Booth with 24, Johan Ter Horst with 20 and Dane Luchford with 18 goals.
And Hastings : the latest developments at The Pilot Field doesn't make us all happy and let's hope the team will bounce back after the recent results. Trevor Mc Creadie surely didn't make things easier but i honestly hope that still a lot of Hastings supporters will make the trip because there a lot of players who deserve the support. In good and bad times or am i wrong?
Invicta produced a below par performance and lost 3-0 to Hastings on a cold Monday night in early October though most agreed that the Sussex outfit were flattered by their eventual victory.
“We didn’t play well that night, but I’m confident that we’ll play much better against them tomorrow ( today ). We do have a few problems, but we’ve shown in recent weeks that we can play well despite a few being missing.”
Nat Blanks (broken metatarsal) is out for the rest of the season while young wingback Chris Elliott has been sidelined with what the club still hopes might be tonsillitis rather than full-blown glandular fever.
Defensive stalwart Josh Vincent twisted an ankle late on in Saturday’s game and must be doubtful while it can be hoped that Roland Edge (chest infection) and Simon Austin (sickness bug) will have recovered enough to come into contention.
Young forward Connor Coyne has been recalled from Deal Town where he has been playing well and scoring goals, and seems certain to start on the bench.
“We’ll be okay” said manager Cugley who was pleased with the recent performances of James Everitt (pictured) who scored his third goal in two games and the versatile Phil Stevenson.
“Ratty’s playing well now and I was particularly pleased with Stevo who was asked to play out of position.
No the stand is still completely out of use so you will not be able to sit and watch.
I am not quite as confident as I was but a Hastings win is on the cards tonight especially as Folkestone have injury and illness problems, a points total of over 80 still achievable which with Folkestone losing another two matches could see Hastings in 3rd place and a home play off semi final possibly against Guernsey.
I tend to be much more pessimistic than Hastings Fisherman, but I too would see 80 points as not beyond reach. The only thing that is predictable is the utter unpredictability of our present team. We could be hammered out of sight tonight; or, as I hope, at least square this game. As for the remaining games; goodness only knows. I just hope that we can put any negative views aside and support the side come what may until the final kick of the season. Then, regardless of where we might have ended up, those in positions of responsibility in our club really do need to carefully consider how we can best progress. It is stating the obvious that a procession of managers and players and public expressions of dissatisfaction by players are not a recipe for success.
Our season long problem of a lack of goals,I fear, will be our cruel downfall.I think we will need 9 points from our remaining 4 games to get a play off place but that means winning at Folkestone or Peacehaven.
Seven points from what remains will likely get us a play-off spot, six might be enough. Anything less probably not. But we are now very much subject to what others do. Glad, at least, from the twitter that we put up a good show tonight.
Sorry to disappoint guys but no way was that a 50/50 game albeit an improved performance and certainly a lot more effort. Against a fairly average Folkestone side, Hastings produced plenty off effort but little quality in a scrappy first half. With just a couple of half chances to shout about for Hastings, the only real shining light was Taser, who time and time again had the beating of the Folkestone left back, who looked like he had won a raffle to play, he was abysmal. Folkestone definitely had the better chances and bulk of the possession and probably just about deserved their lead.
First 25mins of the 2nd half was back to the old Hastings, they were terrible. Folkestone could have been 4up, only denied by two off the line and the woodwork. For some reason our one true threat, Taser was not given the ball at all and was ironically cheered on the few occasions he did receive. Then came the sending off. The ref was dreadful all game to both sides and Timmy was perhaps fortunate to still be on the pitch when Danny Ellis was sent off for two senseless yellow cards. This seemed to galvanise Hastings and fair play to the guys for showing some heart. They played some decent football last 20 and were awarded a penalty even though it was just outside the area. Sam slammed it home and the good Hastings support, who outsung their silent opponents all night, dreamed of an unlikely win. But it was not to be as Folkestone grabbed a late winner which they probably deserved.
So more disappointment and another defeat in this disastrous end to the season. A much better effort though and if our 2nd half tactics were better and we continued to feed Taser then we could have got a lot more out of it. Think we will now need to win at Peace haven, which is unlikely so playoffs looking more and more unlikely.
Pen was definitely inside John I was right in line with it. Frustrating first half but game seemed to turn when Danny was sent off. I didn't see the incident for Danny's first booking but thought a tad harsh for the second one he looked a bit close to handball the ball deliberately maybe it was the angle I was at. I thought Tim and Ben were superb tonight, Taser was outstanding and had so much freedom down the wing. I think Johns summary of the left back winning the raffle was quite apt.
I can see why Hull have had a punt at Ter Horst for such a young player he looked very mature in his movement etc looked a handful all night, whether he'll make it in the premiership I don't know but wouldn't be surprised to see him at a lower league club in a few years.
Taser was tearing them ( mainly their awful but very isolated LB ) totally apart yesterday, got his crosses in well but quite a lot of them from the right do still seem a bit flat though and don't hit the danger areas enough and combined with the lack of someone gambling and going near post means we don't capatilize enough on his dominance of his side and consistent amount of crossing. He has been excellent since joining us though.
RE: Tuesday : Folkestone Invicta - Hastings United
Great ground, best aside from us in the league.
Silent home fans though, only piped up at 2-1 to sing back at us 'your not singing anymore' need to do better than that lads! Up your game!
Is this tongue in cheek? Many years since I visited Hastings United, but everywhere in the ground is about 20 yards from the pitch, & there is one proper stand (although nicely old school).
1.5 stands??!!!!! has this guy not been to ours? fair enough the photo doesn't show the Elphinstone Terrace but still..... :)
We have a big main stand, big 800 capacity covered terrace and the small but mighty Cole Warren... Yes its bit far from the pitch except at the Cole Warren end. Theirs is a great ground, easily the 2nd best imo apart from ours ( Tooting third )
The only atmosphere from Folkestone was when they scored twice and at the final whistle, you could actuallly hear tumbleweed roll at their ends aside from that! lol
Well I got it all wrong and even I have to admit that Folkestone did deserve to win, 3rd place now out of reach and only hope is an away play off place probably at Leatherhead. No real threat on the Folkestone goal last night even after some decent build up play and having to play with 10 after Danny Ellis got himself rather stupidly sent off was always going to be difficult. Taser showed plenty of nice touches but no real clear cut chances created from his crosses and this continues to be a problem, much the same as when he was with Hythe.
Pity the ground is in such a state with the main stand out of use and I wasn't impressed by the lights which must be only just up to standard if indeed they are, but it is at least a proper football ground as opposed to many of the village pitches in this league.
