I really think the Ryman League Management will have to look at the possibility of extending the season. We only have two free weeks left this season (w/c April 6th & 13th) and looking at the fixtures of other clubs some have no free weeks. The weather forecast for the rest of this month looks bad so the chances are we could have further matches postponed.

Players wages is why they're reluctant to extend the season. There's a lot of extra money to find if that happened. I agree it's the sensible thing to do but I don't think they'll go for it. I know the county league have asked for an extension but how many sides actually pay players these days?
With the flood warnings in Surrey and surrounding areas, Leatherhead have got to be worried that they may end up with a repeat of the extensive flood that put their home ground out of action recently!
Its also looking very doubtful for our 21s home match being played tomorrow night.
Simon text me this morning saying the pitch is very wet and there was standing water everywhere with several large puddles and water bubbling out of the ground in one area. He was hoping for a couple of days of drought but I honestly think with the rain now falling we've most probably lost it already. That's my opinion and of course not to say that it won't go ahead.
With the amount of water in the ground generally and with the forecast for the next couple of weeks I wouldn't expect to see a great deal of football anywhere realistically for a while. It should be up to the clubs to vote about a season extension that way they can decide if they would rather play 3-4 games a week or pay a couple of weeks extra wages.
Would imagine that crowds would be bigger if matches were spaced out over two extra weeks as well offsetting the extra wages as many people can't or won't be able to attend that many games so close.
by not choosing to extend the season they risk players getting serious injury sand it may also actually cost them more in the end through small crowds....

Do players still get paid when games are cancelled? I know they have to train still but any extension should not have to cost the club surely?
I note that the Folkestone players sacrificed a weeks pay recently when their stand roof blew off recently...maybe other clubs need to note this act of generosity.
On a selfish note I don't want any extension to the season as booked my holiday day after the original scheduled play off final.

We've now lost the first week in April Dave as the rearranged Sittingbourne game is on the 7th so we can't put any postponed home game in on that Monday now.
Hastingsbouy the players only have to play 1 game that week then they still get paid.
Lenny are you saying that when players don't get a game they don't get paid? If that is the case do they get double when they play twice a week? If not that is hardly fair as we are paying twice to go in. No wonder we have struggled to attract players if they don't get double for playing twice.
With the current state of pitches and the forecast for the next few days I can't see any reason for not extending the season, regardless of other issues. If they are concerned about finances how about people not being able to afford three trips in a week.
Stevie it would be interesting to know as Lenny's comments suggested that if you play 1 game you get paid, no mention of getting paid twice in a week, and if games are called off you get nothing. Seems very unfair on the players if that's the case, perhaps Lenny can clarify as he seems to know what is going on.
No completely the opposite Chris, all I know is that there was a twitter conversation between an ex player and a present player saying that they would get paid even though the weekend fixture had been called off due to the fact there had already been a midweek fixture played that week. That's it in a nut shell.
As much as you may want to think it, I don't know how much, when or how players are paid and nor do I want to. It has no interest to me its a personel matter between the club and players.
Think you know more than you are telling Lenny as your response to HastingsBuoy was general not specific, I will do as you suggested before and send Mr Walters an email, as I think if we are being asked to pay twice and the players only get paid once it's rather unfair on the players.
Chris. Lenny doesnt know more than he is telling. We were discussing this last night as neither of us know the full answer. You were I think at cross purposes as Dan says maybe and your comment to Lenny is unfair. I do think e mailing Dave is the right way to go though so that you get the right answer from the horses mouth so to speak.

I personally can't see what it has to do with any of us how the players are paid. They know the deal when they sign for us and by signing for the club in my eyes they are agreeing to the terms. There is no contracts at the club and I honestly don't know what the procedure is and nor do I want to know, it's got nothing to do with me or anyone else, after all are we all prepared to share our payment details on here from our employers? No I don't think we are!
I understand the comment about it not being fair blah blah blah but if in your a salaried employee you wont get any extra for doing a few hours extra work each week when your busy I know I wouldn't.
This really is becoming a mountain out of a molehill and once again being blown out of proportion. Chris if you don't believe me email Dave he may be prepared to tell you how the players are paid he may not, I'm sure if I asked your employee if you have one how you are paid he will say what's it got to do with me? Why don't you trawl through the twitter accounts of players past and present to see whether the conversation happened or not and once you read it come up with your opinion like I did. Absolutely pathetic.
A piece about Season extension from Leatherheads manager, I think the second paragraph has confirmed what a number of us suspected would happen and now been confirmed, although I can't see anything on the league website....
Lenny it does matter to me as a fan, because if we are operating a different way of paying to other clubs, which is deterring players from signing then it does matter and fans should know, I couldn't give a damn how much they get just how. It's not anything to do with being awkward or creating a mountain. Players don't sign for us for a reason and it's not just transport, so what is wrong in looking at other reasons.
I am aware of 4 methods of payment of players at this level.
1) weekly whatever the weather and amount of games.
2) weekly but only if you play
3) per game played.
4) weekly but with extra should you play.
If there are any others and I am sure there are I hope someone can enlighten me.
And why should it be a secret I don't care if people know how I get paid.
Ryman League president Alan Turvey has insisted there can be no extension to the campaign despite the fixture backlog facing some teams.
Witham Town in Ryman League Division One North and South counterparts Whitstable Town both still have half of their fixtures to play, having managed to complete just 23 fixtures so far this season.
And although that means they are going to be playing at least two games on Thursday nights before the season ends – with more to come if pitches don’t soon dry out – the league season has to be completed on April 26 to allow the play-offs to take place.
Turvey said: “The season has to finish on the due date, which is the last play-off date.
“The play-offs are scheduled for the 28th, 29th and 30th of April and then the 3rd, 4th, 5th of May and that affects promotion and all the things that go with it.
“The league season has to finish on April 26, and then we go into the play-offs.
“It is a very difficult situation at the moment, matches are being rescheduled on a daily basis, the clubs have been very co-operative in rearranging matches.
“But there’s no doubt that that people are going to be playing Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.”
And although Turvey admits that situation is going to be difficult, he explained that the interaction with other leagues means things have to be done and dusted by those dates.
“There’s a meeting that will be taking place in early May involving the Conference, the Southern League, the Northern League and the Ryman League together with the FA to allocate the clubs that are to be moved if any have to be moved, where the relegated teams will go,” he added. “All that has to be done on May 7 so there’s not a lot of time.
“So the answer we have to give at the present time is that the stays the same.
“When Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays are all filled, then that’s something that has to be dealt with.
“Our AGM is on June 15, but the Football Conference hold theirs on June 6, so they have to send out notices about that.
“A lot of things need to be done – people think the off-season is a quiet time but that’s not the case.”

Hmmmm.....I get the feeling that Mr.Turvey has already booked his holidays.
I really can't see why an extension of one or even two weeks should actually give these league administrators too much of a problem.
There's a three and a half month gap between seasons, fixtures don't come out until when ? Late June ? Mid July ?
Just a bunch of intransigent old gits who don't give a damn about the thousands of players and supporters that this REALLY affects !
OK, it looks like a massive fixture pile-up (or other phrases ending in -up) and
surprise, surprise, no help from the league.
So what happens when not all games can be played in time? Do lost games simply vanish
giving an unfair advantage to teams that habe played more? Do unplayed games count as a draw or are home teams penalised for failing to play and the visitors get the points?
And of players are forced to play extra games in excess of work and get injured
do they have a case for compensation and if so against who, club or league?
I doubt if anyone knows but the league ought to be getting its head out of whatever orifice it is currently residing in and making some decisions and giving some feedback
My interpretation of what Alan "Kevin" Turvey is saying is that that there will be no question of an extension until clubs have scheduled matches for EVERY available Tuesday and Thursday up to that end date of April 26. Only if that happens and there are still unfulfilled fixtures will an extension be considered. We're not anywhere near that point yet and no-one is going to deliberately start arranging two midweek fixtures they don't have to. However a couple more weeks of rain and Thursday matches will definitely start appearing.
However this is desperately unfair on everyone at our level. How can you expect these players, who obviously need to work full time, to play two midweek games, one inevitably involving away travel ?
Basically these people have made up some deadlines to suit themselves.
From what I understand Bandit it is due to the Fa dealing with promotions etc but I agree totally it wouldn't hurt. As I've posted previously players payments are a big factor.
Should we be lucky enough to get in the play offs, our three games a week knackered squad could end playing the fresh as a daisy geographically advantaged guernsey . Sounds fair.
