It is still possible but I think that a Play Off place is more realistic.

Last season Whitehawk won the league and only lost 4 Games all season, and when we won the league back in 2002 we only lost 5 Games.

In fact over the last 14 years from leagues that we have been in the "Average" amount of games lost by the team that won the league is 5.5 games.

We have already lost 4 Games so far and are not even halfway through our fixtures yet, so yes it is still possible but we cannot afford to lose too many more games if we want to avoid the play offs and go up automatically and win the league.

Statistically it looks like Peacehaven (lost 2) and Leatherhead (lost 3) and us who will eventually win the league.

Agree with your points Bandit and think the next two weekends will be the defining period of the season. Looking at the next set of fixtures over the next two Saturday's all the top boys are playing each other and if Peacehaven take 6 out of 6 then the title has already gone in my opinion. Then we are fighting for 2nd place and the benefit of our fantastic home record in the play offs. Wouldn't count Folkestone out of the equation yet either.

4/1

Peacehaven v Leatherhead

Redhill v Hastings

Walton Casuals v Folkestone

Ramsgate v Guernsey

11/1

Hastings v Peacehaven

Leatherhead v Faversham

Guernsey v Walton Casuals

Merstham v Folkestone

Peachehaven is my top favorite for automatic promotion. They not only win the majority of the games easily but they score so much. Already 66 and the season is only halfway. And when they have a problem ( see yesterday's game away to Tooting after 46 minutes 1-3 behind they seem to have no problem to win at the end that game 5-3 !

Of course that team can get a worse period but for me now that team is the best. And our club ? I think the lack of scoring that amount of goals Peachehaven does will bring us between place 2-6. We are conceding too much goals although Josh Pelling has done a great job so far.

So a play-off place for us. ( with Leatherhead,Folkstone and Burgess Hill )

Our chances will rest heavily on the results against Peacehaven

4 points or more in the 2 games will be essential to keep us in the running for the top spot.

A very tough task indeed.

if it is true what we have heard and the money people from Whitehawk are now investing in Peacehaven then the league is all over.

From what i have seen so far I think we will have to up via the play offs.

Some of you know I like or a bet or 3 and I have just placed the bet below for these teams to win their leagues. A bit of fun till the end of the season and i can always cover some other teams as the season goes on. The bet was placed with BETWAY online and I had a tenner acca with potential returns of over 900 quid. Would love to have put us in but my betting head and not my heart must rule.

We are 2/1 to win the league.

VCD Athletic @ 1.85

Hemel Hempstead Town @ 1.50

Bromley @ 2.20

Dunstable Town @ 2.05

Wealdstone FC @3.00

Peacehaven and Telscombe @ 2.50

Difficult to see further than Peacehaven if you're looking for champions, simply because they regularly seem to win convincingly.....you certainly can't say the same about us....just about every victory is a battle which is why I still feel our position is a little false. Folkestone appear to their biggest challengers on current form.
The Peacehaven game will certainly be significant as a defeat will make it very hard to catch them but I suspect it will go right to the wire before we know who the play-off contenders are as there appears to be not too much between anyone in the top half.
I think we'll make the play-offs... beyond that I wouldn't like to predict.

Still think this is going to be a hard call....might even come down to goal difference in the end...ours is poor and not the best....walton casuals are not strong enough or consistent enough and will drop off.....ironically recent bad weather might assist us with both folkestone n leatherhead having ground problems and not sure when they will be able to fulfill their next home fixtures.....the final play off position could even go to the current club in 18th position its that open still.......its sad to think our main rival is peacehaven when a few seasons ago they were in sussex county division 2....another county league rival whitehawk have over taken us and left us by the wayside playing 2 divisions higher than us...we get excited about a victory against another former county league side burgess hill and think its a good result...we have stood still whilst those around have progressed from kent or sussex leagues.....crawley played notts county today...that was our regular bank holiday fuxture....gravesend and dartford as well.....i hope we do get promoted but am thinking this is becoming more doubtful as the automatic promotion place is slipping away if we go up in play offs great but a big ask.....

To my mind Bert has hit the nail on the head - unless Peacehaven blow up they will win the league. Of course they might hit a spell of indifferent form but for me the telling statistic is that they have scored nearly twice as many goals as we have.

On the positive side, I think we will make the play-offs. We should - of course - do all we can to win the league. And with there being a possibility of Guernsey being in the play-offs, 2nd place is really worth fighting for to get the advantage of a home draw. What club would want to go to Guernsey for a play-off!!!

Totally agree hastings buoy how far we have fallen, but like Dave O feel that we will win the League. It's not that we are that good but the others are poorer still. Not been on the cooking sherry Barry only Sanatogen.
The real question that needs to be answered is whether Bert NEC really is a foreign supporter . Judging from most of his postings he seems as English as fish and chips

I think the fact that Peacehaven have scored 66 goals so far this season is enough for me to think they'll do it, and they're only at the halfway stage now! We'll be up there fighting for 1st, otherwise let's get home matches in the play offs (I'm guessing that format is the same this year? 2nd v 5th, 3rd v 4th with the final at the highest placed teams home ground?)

bookmakers think Peacehaven will win league now as they are 3/2 to win we are 2/1. think we will have to settle with play off place. think we dont have depth of squad to see us through and poor signing in general meen if we get injury and suspension we will struggle even more to keep getting points. or can i have some cooking sherry and it will all be ok like dave o says

just seen Maggs post match interview on Observer site. Anyone else seen it? He said he was looking for a response after Ramsgate and was please with what he got. and on Danny Ellis he says he can always do stuff like that talking about his goal. well first on response we was 2 0 down and lucky we got 3 points and did not play that well and if Ellis can always do stuff like that why does Dolan start ahead of him? i think i watch a different game to the manager.

http://www.hastingsobserver.co.uk/sport/football/video-reaction-john-maggs-1-5777365

That's the link for anyone who has not seen it yet.

I understand why tactically why John goes for the "Adams, Olorunda, Dolan, Vickers" midfield 4 as it is designed to provide defensive cover and support to our full backs which alternative line ups don't provide as much of, having Danny on the LW and having Tom Vickers centre would undoubtedly provide more standout moments and 20 yard strikes but would leave our makeshift LB horribly exposed even further as Danny does tend to wander from his position and come inside.

To me Tom has to remain on the LW with ideally Bruno Pacheco behind strongly due to the fact that both are comfortable with their left foot as opposed to the primarily right footed Danny and our current full backs ( Gilbert or Henson ) Bruno's excellent attacking instincts would then be balanced by Tom defensive discipline.

Having Danny in the middle is an option but he would need to ensure that he stays central and as mentioned doesn't drift from his role, having Tim alongside him should allow him some freedom however to get forward occasionally in support of the forwards.

Personally if we had the required type of target man Dannys best role would be behind the strikers with room and licence to do what he wanted whilst we have a solid and balanced midfield behind him. However our strikers are not really designed to be lone frontmen and that option just wouldn't work currently.

Watching the video I think John means that it was the reaction to going 2-0 down after losing 5-0 that was pleasing and the reaction he wanted rather that the entire performance summed up by Tom not giving up the lost cause that a lot of players in any team wouldn't have bothered chasing so far.

I think he is too experienced to be unaware of the slightly unimpressive form ( performance wise ) overall but I trust his jusgement and experience to get us as high up there as possible although and the title race is still very much in our own hands as if we get 6 points off Peacehaven then as it stands we would be 1 point ahead with a game in hand so still everything to play for ( not saying that it will happen just that it could still very much happen. )

Lets get behind the boys whoever is on the pitch and really push for this league!

I think you're being a bit tough on the team, Peter.
We were two down but I felt it was against the run of play....Ok, we hadn't created too much but they had created virtually nothing and scored from the only goal chances they had. There had been no lack of effort by the players to that point and, with critical rumblings coming from the main stand, there was a danger that the players either lost their heads or gave the game up as lost. But NEITHER happened. They rolled up their sleeves, increased their effort and, albeit with a bit of good fortune, produced a really exciting last half hour and, I reckon, taking the match as a whole, we certainly deserved a win.
Look.....I have been as critical as anyone this season and regularly express my concerns that results have exceeded the performance. However after the Ramsgate debacle, and trailing by two goals with only half an hour left, SURELY we should be full of praise for what the players DID achieve on Saturday.

Tim and Dolan seem to do the same job for me, and is more of a negative set up. Danny gives us more creativity, and should start. However, I'm sure dolan would not be happy to miss the game against his ols club.

Don't think Hastings could do better with our current management team. John Maggs has great experience in the non-league game and Terry is a local football legend. Hope they stay around for at least a couple of seasons.

If people aren't happy with the current management setup then they'll never be happy.  Best appointment in the past 10 years.
