Will we be back on top of the league ?

Against the nr 10 of the table Walton seems a task the team are able to !

Walton scored 42 goals and conceded 40 ! They lost last Saturday against Burgess Hill 3-2.

Attendance: 359

It is games like this which we really must put away. Whether we will do so remains to be seen. Like others, I feel that our current league position is flattering. Our defensive record is good on paper; but, if we are to remain in contention for the automatic promotion spot, we must score more goals and give ourselves sufficient margin to cope with the seemingly inevitable goals we concede from losing possession when over committed in the opposition half.

As things stand, I will be very disappointed if we miss the play-offs; but to top Peacehaven and possibly Leatherhead in April we will need 90+ points. I cannot see us doing that without a significant improvement in the goals scored tally.

A bit of rain ... The ref was a joke ...the ball only stopped once in a puddle and then he blew up ...so after all that effort for nothing . So do the bookings get wiped off as well as classy well taken goals we scored ?

"@hastingsufc: Match abandoned in the 62nd minute, for those enquiring. Bookings count, appearances and goals don't. Rematch to be arranged. " .......that is a Joke !!!!!!!

Bert: Abandoned due to 'deteriorating weather conditions'. Very very frustrating with about 25 minutes to go and with a clear win in prospect. Without a doubt the pitch in the second half was becoming water affected and rain was still falling; but there was not standing water on the pitch and I do not see how the conditions could be construed as dangerous. I have seen games at more senior levels played in far worse conditions. The referee did not consult his assistants, the captains or the managers before waving his arms to signal the match was abandoned. Players from both teams protested at his decision.

How flippin' annoying was that?
To be honest I was enjoying the games as much as anything I have seen all season. We scored three terrific goals and conditions, while tricky, made for a highly entertaining match. Walton looked decent coming forward but looked likely to concede just about every time we attacked.
The only problem tonight was a quite dreadful referee.
I'm not saying that just because he denied us a well earned victory....I'm saying it because he was shocking throughout. Failing to play an advantage when it was stunningly obvious to just play on, blowing his whistle to correct the position of a throw in and then waving play on, booking players for minor offences and ignoring the worst foul.
I would even suggest he was on a bit of an ego trip tonight and enjoyed being centre stage.(cf. Paul Vosper)
Let's hope we don't end up regretting this evening's disappointment come the end of the season. Feeling pretty cheated tonight !

I have never been more frustrated at a decision than that of the referee tonight. In my opinion he never wanted to play that game at all. Judgey told me after the game that the ref even commented when they were doing the toss that if the rain didn't ease up he'd call it off, when I walked off the pitch prior to the second half he asked my opinion, I told him there was a lot of water out there but it had to be given a chance, he replied I'm not sure that we'll get through the next 45 minutes. The way he called the game off without consulting anyone at all makes me think all he wanted to do was go home.
Yes there was water on the pitch but I've seen and played in far worse than that myself and the general consensus was we felt that the pitch would of held up for the remaining 28 minutes. Even the Walton manager went into the referees room and told him that was a disgusting decision so please if anyone thinks that it's what they wanted that is far from the truth. After the game the referee and linesman didn't even go into the boardroom they just got changed and went without a goodbye or anything.

League rules say that it will have to be replayed within 6 weeks. Details will of course be on the main website.

Totally agree with Mick and everyone else. We all thought that both sides were playing some dec ent football despite the conditions and several players showed restraint in what could have been dangerous situations. I have played and watched football in far worse conditions that tonight's and think that Simon and the lads must be as gutted as anyone after their efforts at half time to get rid of the water. Rubbish decision from a poor referee. His use of the advantage rule was the worse I have ever seen in 50 years of watching and playing football, refs like him give football officials a bad name.

agree to that the decision was a joke. the ball was rollong there was no dangerous tackles so if the condition were so bad why start the game. it had not deterirated from what i was watching and as people have said was the best game of football in terms of passing and attacking play I have seen this season. could you do that on a pitch that the ref think is unplayable? I heard the Walton players complaining. they were losing 3-1 and they wanted to continue and yes for ref to not consult anyone and see if players wanted to continue or club could try and do anything with areas he was not happy with is just baffling. no wonder refs get such a bad name and yes he had a stinker during game to. Great save by Peling and he gives a goal kick.
hope to that when this is replayed we dont end up without 3 points cos that would be unbearable or is there any chance this result can stand?

No it will have to be replayed Peter, if it had been in the 85th minute then I dare say the result would of stood.
I understand the club will be consulting the league to see if something can be done regards admission prices for the rearranged fixture.

Strange decision from the ref-so many games in the past have been played in far worse conditions. My particular favorite was at The Homelands for an Ashford-Fulham FA cup tie played in torrential rain on an absolute mud heap. Brilliant match with Ashford 2-0 up before the ref gifted Fulham 2 penalties in the last 10 minutes. Last night was nothing in comparison to those conditions. Agree with Mick in that Walton were like a lot of sides in the league-looking good going forward but fragile at the back. We always have the advantage of an experienced centre half who has played at a higher level. Thought Danny did OK and offers something different in midfield. However, you do have to take the good and the bad as he went through a spell where every time he got the ball it ended up with a W and H player. Tom was excellent- a great addition to the team-hope he can avoid all the cards. Hope the team can bounce back from the disappointing outcome against a potential banana skin on Saturday.

As others have said it was just the decision to not consult anyone at all before blowing up. Only looked to me like the left wing that have a few small puddles, but I've seen far worse games.

Good performance, lovely goals, and as for the Walton keepers goal kicks . . . .

I've only just finished seething. All has been said now, but what a joke of a decision. It's not as if players were falling all over the place! There was a small amount of water near the corner flag by the tea bar but nothing that would in. Any way stop a game. As Barry and Mick have said - he didn't want to play it and wanted to get the attention himself. To blow up without consultation is absurd. Only one person I spoke to thought the ref was right which shows the strength of feeling. Simon Rudkins said it was playable after the final whistle would have gone. I fully trust his expert opinion and not a clueless ref and one pillock!

Whoever that one person was Pat is either deluded or a member of the referees union of let's not get our hair wet.I only put a mirror up in the referees room yesterday, let's hope he took a long hard look at himself in it last night.
I'm still dumbfounded at the way he called it off without talking to anyone the pitch was playable there's no two ways about it.

Bet the Walton & H players are really not looking forward to their third trip down here and of course will be a midweek night in the 'rainy' season again too!

No wonder they were equally pissed off with the decision to call it off, they just wanted to get it over with!!

Unfortunately they don't appear to have a forum to see what their fans made of it ( not that I actually saw any there! )

Just reflecting on last night, the most disappointing thing was not the three points but the fact it ruined what was great entertainment.
Despite our position we have endured some pretty dour encounters this season so to be treated to such enterprising football in tricky but certainly not dangerous conditions was a real treat. I guess we may have seen a few more 'unforced errors' in those conditions but it was the same for both sides and I reckon it would probably have ended up about four or five two.
The supporters turned out on a foul night and were being rewarded for it...but unfortunately the man in charge felt he needed to prove that he really did have total control and spoilt the evening. I think he forgot that football is about entertainment.
Let's be honest....I can barely recall seeing either trainer last night...that's how dangerous it was. Players are far more likely to injure themselves on a bumpy pitch in August than they were last night. I sort of got the feeling that the ref had never actually played the game and had learnt refereeing from a text book.
Anyway...let's hope it's dries up for Saturday and Chipstead feel our wrath !!

All this going on at the ref is ridiculous, have any of you taken the time too have a look at the instructions/advice give to referees about abandonments, if you do you will see the ref was absolutely correct in his decision as the ball did not roll and stopped abruptly. It's not just about player safety it's about a game becoming farcical. Yes we were all disappointed at the outcome but the ref was correct in terms of the current guidelines. I don't agree with the decision, but in terms of his guidelines he was correct.

So why is this game not farcical?

m.youtube.com/watch

Is it because the ball doesn't stop but floats?

dont agree Chris, when ref stopped the game the ball was still rolling, there was no danger to players and as Mick says pitches in summer can be harder and more dangerous. not sure if game would have finished who know answer to that but at the time it just looked like a poor decision without asking managers there view. the game had not become farcical and think football wise best we have pass the ball all season

couldn't agree less. We are all well aware of the guidelines. Not going to get into another argument - if the ball stopped dead you may have been the only one to see it. The ball was moving well enough for the game to continue - both managers agreed with our groundsman whose opinion I'll take every time

The decent thing for the referee to have done was to consult with both managers and captains. If he had concerns then he could of asked us to deal with those concerns. I'm a certain seeing how little water was on the pitch compared to that which we had cleared in the previous attempt to play the fixture we could have cleared it. Obviously with the amount of rainfall in such a short space of time for the previous game, we were fighting a loosing battle. The fact that he consulted with nobody at all is pathetic.
Their manager went and told the referee after that his decision was the wrong one. From what the referee said to me as he walked on the pitch at the beginning of the second half I had an idea he wouldn't finish the game.
I'm annoyed for Simon, that man puts in hours in cutting the pitch in perpetration for games not just for 1st team games but also the 21 & 18 squads. The referee should of drawn his expertise and vast knowledge. He's not been groundsman of the year two years in a row for no reason.

Don't think any fan would want a game called off in the 60th min as plenty of time to potentially get a couple more goals...

I'm sure that Walton won't want to make the journey either, I went there with the reserves last season and although our journey was straight forward we left at 4.30 as you just can't take the risk with the M25.

Game at Crawley has been suspended groundsman are out forking the pitch, at least the referee spoke to the managers and captains and has asked for the groundsmen if they can clear it. Exactly what should of happened the other night.
