No Kenny on Wednesday night either ...yeah what chance ? Branco didn't really impress me that much other than the game when he scored ....he seemed a bit lightweight and spent a lot of time on the floor ,rolled about too much too..must have picked that up from the premiership primadonas
So 24 hours after Rye announce they have signed Ade, we once again have a shortage of strikers. I have to say our transfer dealings this season have been a joke at times and smack of a bit of desperation. Branco, Bah, Aladetoun, Akwasi, Henson, McClean, Richardson.... the list goes on, and we have now used a staggering 31 players already this season. And can someone please tell me what has happened to Tom O'Connor? quality player, who seems to have disappeared after his MOM performance against Faversham in the cup.
Can only assume with Tom that Bromley rate or need him enough at the mo to keep him there, as Windy has said its one of the aspects of the dual reg system that the parent club has all the control....
I think its a pity Branco wasn't given a little longer to prove himself and really think its difficult to make a judgement on the number of games he played...who knows maybe his injury is long term and the club were not prepared to wait for full recovery. I guess its all down to budget as one player comes in ( TM ) books need to be balanced so one has to go. My view is that the club do not wish to break the bank to get out of the league ( quite right too ) and will edge bets as the season continues, maybe buy a few if results dip or even shed a few if we look like winning the league with games in hand....I think lessons have been learned from end of last season when a disproportionate amount of money was spent trying to avoid the drop with all the loan players who were in fact no better than what we already had. Guess this is a season of transition trying to get promotion without breaking the bank and then hopefully having enough financial resources next season to make a serious challenge in ryman prem.
I do think for any promotion challenge there needs to be a consistency ( currently lacking ) in the team and a desire for players to choose to play for Hastings over other teams in the Sussex area.
Like yourself Hastingsbuoy agree its important not to waste money getting out of the league as the squad is probably already capable of doing so as it is without blowing thousands to buy it. However i do think that with Branco going the squad definatly needs a proven, ideally an experienced striker and that will cost a fair amount but hopefully we can get soemone who is capable of staying with us for next season if we were to get promoted.
I see the Branco situation as being very similar to the Elvis Hammond situation from last season with a striker not scoring goals despite costing probably a fair amount in wages. however personally i would have kept Hammond a bit longer last season and also Branco this but at the end of the day we are top of the league with games in hand so John is performing great things when you look at it like that and also his signing of McCreadie certainly has started very promisingly so we really have got to trust him and his decsions.
While I agree very much with the rest of what Hastingsbuoy has to say above; I think it is in the best interest of Branco and the club that he should move on now. I appreciate that he has had injury problems; but, allowing for that, I didn't see him as best suited to the physical demands of our league. Notwithstanding Trevor McCreadie's impressive start (particularly his effective partnership with Kenny), I still think we need a strong traditional old school centre forward to sustain what is clearly going to be a demanding challenge for the automatic promotion slot. Ade, as he was when he was with us, would have been ideal. If Ade's return is not to happen, then our necessarily limited resources should be focused on finding someone like him.
Dan, I couldn't agree more !!. Although not quite what I was suggesting as an old fashioned centre forward; Mikel Suarez has great ability as a target man and he scores goals. I'd love to see him back here. He really is a player worth going for to the limit of the budget. If he is out on loan there might be a chance .......
Cant think of anyone else that i know although ( and i know peope wont agree cos hes currently at county league ) Andy Atkin would do a good job im sure
There's a reason that the New Den is on Ilderton road mate.... Lots of scrap and rubbish yards nearby :)
I work about 5 mins up the road so can't really slag it off though as often frequent the cafés and pubs round the Old Kent Road and it ain't the worst place in the world despite what everyone thinks!its certainly got character!
Not so sure about Ediusi but I think Branco could of been given another couple of games but I think he would have to of got stronger, for me he went down far to easily. I don't feel at his current form Irish or Ben would struggle against him.
