After 2 defeats in a row Hastings will try to get on the winning path again against nr. 16 in the table Merstham.

Merstham who won their last league game away against Walton & Hersham with 1 - 4 and also won last Saturday the

FA Cup game 1 v 0 Corinthian-Casuals by a goal from Lee Newman (57). Attend: only 90.

This is on their website and the start of the season:

The 2012/13 season sees many changes at the club notably the loss of the Reserves, A & B Teams, the Sunday Team and the U18s; the board citing financial reasons. This was Bird’s first full season in charge didn’t quite live up to his expectations with Merstham finishing 12th and without a noticeable run in any cup completion. With a minimal budget Bird again rang the changes for the 2013/14 season bringing in more experienced players and the expectation of a play-off position.

So who is gonna make the 50 mile trip and see the U's get back on winning ways again?

Some extra information:

A few time MOTH player is Elliot Thompson .
I think they play always a very physical game because in the 8 league games so far they got:

Yellow Cards : 21
Red Cards: 2

And in their FA Cup games: 2 yellow and 1 red card.

Their topscorer is Rhule ( 5 goals ) and he got already 4 yellow cards.

Aaron Rhule played a couple of games for us last year, making his debut against Lewes when we won 2-0 away.

2 - 1, Dan.  (Not often I get the chance to correct you so I thought I'd take it !biggrin )

Rhule didn't impress me at Lewes and I can't remember his other appearance.....I won't lose any sleep over him.

I'll be making the journey  to Merstham and I certainly expect us to get back to winning ways.

(Still have nightmares cover that 6 - 1 embarrassment a few years back !)

I too wondered where the 2-0 come from Mick, Dan must of been totally leg less that day!

Wasn't there but absolutely gutted, should not be losing 2-0 to teams like Merstham.... Faversham are a good side and we suffered with the ref there with that pen and we gave Guernsey the win with that handball for another pen but to lose 2-0 today is crap pure and simple especially with what I heard the overall performance was like all round.

Aside from Bah this is still the same team as racked up 5 wins out of 6 under the caretakers but not sure if that makes it better or worse!

However this slump may well have happened anyway like a lot of people on here were predicting even if Terry and mark had stayed on but we'll never know, just hope john is able to sort things out sharpish, there are a lot of people on here who were fully behind his appointment so hope those people give him a decent while to get things the way he wants even if it takes a couple of games to do so.

How did Soulymane Bah do? From twitter it looked like he did some good things?

2-0 behind after 42 minutes; what is going wrong?

And about Rhule:

Rhule's pace and dribbling ability is already causing United no end of trouble down the Merstham left.

New manager and three defeats.I don't know anything about him but he obviously came here with a decent reputation. The defeat at Faversham was bad enough but today's result is even worse.Need to improve pretty quickly,or we will be amongst the also fans.At this moment in time I cannot see a win in the next three games.Desperately hope I am wrong.A real test for the manager to get this team motivated

Somebody posted on the Guernsey thread, "does anyone post anything positive on here". Well believe me I expect this to be the most negative thread of all time. Hastings were pathetic today in every department and I don't think I can ever remember a worse performance in all my years of following Hastings. Forget the wins under Terry and forget anyone coming on here and telling you otherwise, this is one of the worst Hastings sides ever! Get tired of saying week in week out how useless the 2 fullbacks are so I'll let someone else do that. Judge and Kelly had their 1st poor game today. Midfield non existent with no creativity at all, although Danny tried as hard as ever and upfront!!!!! Well Bah did okay wide on the left, Bailo is clearly still on holiday and is a shadow of the player he used to be and poor old Kenny..... again someone else can comment as i'm just sick of it. But the biggest thing of all today and something I have not seen this season, was the lack of fight. Merstham won every header, every tackle and just battered us all over the pitch. We had no plan B and were clueless all over the pitch. A game crying out for the battling qualities of Timmy ended up with Jamie Crone and the hapless McClean playing in the middle whilst he remained on the bench. What is going on?  Just feel so sorry for the traveling masses again today as no one should have to put up with that utter rubbish and I feel I have been conservative in my criticism. Cant wait to hear what the rest of you though today.no

Defence leaking like a sieve? Stop prevaricating Maggs & get Razor back asap. If fit, he is still the best Centre Back stopper in this league.

Defence leaking like a sieve because the full backs are not good enough and they have no protection in front. Matt, Sam and Danny all too lightweight. Great going forward but as Chris says on another thread, why take Timmy out of that holding role?

I agree with John W - Ive never seen such a toothless and clueless team performance. They looked as if they had just met for the first time. Merstham were talking all the time - we were silent. Merstham went for every second ball whilst too many times we just lost the ball. The substitutions didnt give us a chance of getting back into the game as we had given up long before then. Shocking performance. Danny Ellis probably the only one for me who actually put in a shift today.

It's all very well questioning the new manager but we could easily have lost any if not all of the first six games as well.

But the manager has removed tim from the team, thus taking some of the defensive stability. Think Maggs may be past his sell by date, hope i am wrong but the more i see i don't think i am. Its logical that poor players like we have are more likely to perform adequately in a simple system in their best position. So why isn't Maggs doing this?

Have to agree with Dave68.....this was a poor performance........but not actually much worse than any of those early wins when we were getting the breaks.   The main difference was that in the first half we were defensively worse than at any other time this season and could easily have conceded four. By the same token we should have had two at least ......So at least there was still some glimmer of hope at half -time.

That however totally disappeared with the substitutions ! McClean and Crone were never going to improve things in a quite dreadful second half in which our only attempts were forlorn 35 yard efforts when all ideas of creativity had run out.

I'm sure JM now realises he has an awful lot of work to do to even get us close to the required standard for promotion. Maybe I'm just feeling particularly pessimistic tonight but I reckon this team (and a performance like this) would get us totally annihilated in the Ryman Premier league.

A good turn out from Hastings supporters today who deserve a whole lot better than this against what was, after all, a village team.

Mick we are playing Ryman South, has nothing to do with Ryman premier so I don't get your point, if we were in RP we would have better players.

Grim performance, second best in all respects. If Kenny Pogue had put away his big chance - but what happened today was on a par with those bleak days of Steve Lovell doing his best with Gillingham youth players back in the 03-04 season. Last weekend United lost unluckily to probably the best side in the division - and then put in a performance like this afternoon's at Merstham.

i agree with dave68 as well. the problems at the club stem much further back than the latest short sighted management appointment. mistakes made by the board by not recognising the obvious signs of dicontent in late january early february within last years team and management culminating in us finsihing bottom and being relegated out of an average ryman premier league, the club failing to see the signs of the previous managers lack of man mangement in may and june with his poor ability to re-sign or even make contact with some of last seasons squad who despite being part of a relegated team have all managed to kick on this season with new clubs and in my opinion with the correct manager leading them would be far more capable of getting us back up especially with some of the better players that have stepped up in this years squad eg darby and kelly. we then ask mark stapely and terry white who are 100% club men and good men at that to carry the can or hold fort and who then over achieve by winning 5 and dawing 1 of their first 6 games with a county league team plus ben judge. we snub mark and terry and out of the blue we appoint a 70+ year old who has no knowledge of the current squad or seemingly any other players that are willing to 'travel' down the a21. i understand he is now looking at the possibility of the calais-dover then along the a259 as an alternative!

Not sure it's the worst side ever, you can't have been supporting for very long if you think that.  Quite right the side's nowhere near good enough and eight or nine new faces urgently required.  They have to be people who will listen and play the way the new manager wants, not players that don't care.  Maggs must have plenty of contacts this time he's been in the game, but what contacts do Stapley and White have?

Have to agree that despite the good start to the season we could easily have lost all those games but luck was on our side.  Remember also that Maggs was here for the two games against Ramsgate which we won.

Certainly one of the worst sides I've ever seen at the Pilot Field in 30 years of following them. I too remember the Steve Lovell side back in 03 as mentioned by Simon and they were poor but certainly no worse than what we have at the moment. Don't think there is a hope in hell of us seeing 8 or 9 new faces as mentioned by powels.
