I think Irish was originally a left-back, which certainly gives us more options... :)

So where does he play, too slow for FB, and not good enough in midfield, if he is too start only position I can see is centre forward. It would be wrong to drop Judge or Kelly

Razor did play up front when he was a youngster so would know the position well enough. I agree it will be a headache for any manager to have but a good headache I think.

From what I've seen he's a better centre half.

Can see him being a great return to the squad, certainly provides a much bigger danger on set pieces than we currently have, Sean Kelly and Ben have earned their places to say the least so Sean might have to be patient, can see an injury or suspension giving him his chance to return.

Personally very happy he's back at the club as alayer and everyone seems aware and accepting of the situation and the conditions that Magg's laid out

Excellent news, even if he doesn't walk straight back in the team immediately as Chris B suggests, I would have thought it was highly unlikely that our central defence will go though the entire season without suspensions and injuries so really strengthens the squad.

I think Razor is arguably the best CB in this league - it's great news he is staying in my opinion. If Kelly can move to LB - I think we will have the strongest defence in the league. It's also a good thing that someone of Razors quality will be fighting for a place.
Chris - you do seem negative about Razor on all fronts. Do you have a personal problem with him or do you disagree about his quality as a CB ?

I really get the feeling Chris B has a massive dislike for Razor any comment he makes on him is negative!!!!! Great news seams back as Pat rightly said best CB in the league!!!!

Nothing against him as a player, but we have 2 good centre backs who play well together, and that couldn't be said about Sean and judge, he is too slow to play with Judge as they both play a similar game. Our back 5 has been our strength so far this season, why change the key components of this.

Well it will certainly be interesting to see how Sean might be accommodated into the team.
I think Kelly has been far and away our best new arrival this season and has made a solid partnership with the immaculate Judge and it would be very unfair to drop him for Ray at this point.
I understand Kelly could play full back but not convinced that he would impress as much there. (Remember Rhys Whybourne ? Effective in the middle...pretty hopeless at fullback because he couldn't distribute the ball to save his life.) I guess it's just unfortunate that we seem to have an embarrassment of riches at centre back while there are a few other obvious weak areas.
I disagree that Ray and Judge can't play together....I guess that's based on a few traumatic performances in a losing team at the end of last season..but there's nothing to suggest they wouldn't be extremely effective in this league.
So how about Sean as centre forward ? Well, it's a thought !

Was made up with this news when I heard ealier. Like Pat said, one of the best CBs in the league and with that, a wealth of experience on the pitch and about the club. Hastings Utd pretty much runs through his veins after he is the third generation in his family playing for them. With Kelly, Judge, Ray and Henson at the back, I think we'll have one of the strongest defences in the league.

In my opinion this is a bad move considering the disruption he caused at the start of the season.

I really hope the team is not disrupted by this as Judge and Kelly have been outstanding and neither should be asked to change position to allow Ray to come back in.

For someone who is suppose to love the club he has left it on 2 occasions and close to it on another.

Sorry but not required i'm afraid.

The only consolation i see is that he will be out injured or suspended most of the time anyway.

We have seen a marked improvement in our discipline this season but that could all change now.

Real nice touch that Barry wishing a player gets injured, you couldn't say something along the lines of I hope that Judge and Kelly play so well that he doesn't get a look in could you? Instead you have to hope that some kind of harm comes to him.

Classy post that , well done! Regardless what you may think of him as a player or personally you're out of order.

Razor did not leave us this time. Speaking to him yesterday he resigned from management, which I think was the right thing to do. The reasons why, are his business and I did not ask, but he has remained signed on for Hastings this whole time. He has had a knee operation and been regaining fitness since so he has actually never left as a player and never wanted too. Feels he is 2 weeks away from fighting for a first team place.

For me Judge and Kelly have been our 2 best players this season by far but what a nice problem to have with Sean in the wings. Lets not forget how old Ben is and if we are to get the best form him all season he is clearly going to require some rest time throughout the season. Best defender in the league by far and we need to protect him in my view.

Not sure it's a good idea.  Remember last season, Judge looked a much better player when Sean was missing and he's outstanding this season.  Kelly is also too good to be dropped so where does Sean fit in.  Too slow to play up front surely.

If he didn't want to leave this time why did he talk with Garry Wilson at Lewes?  Also not sure he's that popular with everyone in the dressing room.

The step backwards will come if Ray comes into the side, if he is on the bench, or should judge/ Kelly be out then i have no problem with Sean coming in. An able understudy

Ok I probably overstepped the mark with my earlier post so please accept apologies about that but when you have a passion for something you can get carried away.

However I still feel it may backfire on the club.

Anyway onwards and upwards Faversham this a nice ground for anyone that is going. I expect 3Pts.

We're all passionate Barry that's why it gets a bit near the mark on here sometimes but I and others obviously feel you stepped over the mark with that post. I accept your apology but please be a little more 'diplomatic' next time.

Just to come back on a point that ChrisB made. I fully agree that judge and Kelly are doing fine at CB so agree it shouldn't change all the time it's working. Chris, you say Razor is too slow, I think he still has pace. Wasn't it Ishmail Miller who he chased down from the halfway line at Middlesbrough to make that incredible tackle? He only lost pace in the last few games as he was playing with a knee injury that ended up with surgery close season.

Good point Pat, lets hope that the surgery hasn't caused him to loose any pace. I do agree he's not as quick as say Bradley or Zac but then again I'm pretty sure he's not the slowest in the squad either.

He may agree his pace is not the best but I expect you won't get a more powerful player than Razor I for 1 would not want to be in a tackle with razor or marking him as a defender so for me him coming back as a player is something I'm pleased about.

I have never considered that Razor lacked pace, providing he's fully fit. In fact I can't actually remember him losing a straight race with any forward last season.
I rather frivolously suggested playing him up front but isn't it worth considering ? He'd be a far better target man and ball winner than KP and would probably get on the end of more crosses...play to his feet/chest/head rather than expecting him to make runs behind defenders....give him an hour in which he 'bullies' the defenders...then bring on KP with his extra pace for the last half hour.
You have to admit it would be interesting !

Didn't he once play up front at Cray a couple of seasons ago or did I imagine that. Can see your point Mick but not sure it's a good idea to play him out of position when we are not known for our attacking prowess .

I remember hearing that he played up front for Palace when he was a youngster and notched up a few goals too. I also know he woke me up when he was a kid kicking his bloody ball against my wall when I was on nights once.....little git!

You have to admit though, for a tall bloke KP is absolute rubbish in the air. He very rarely tries to win high balls and defenders get a pretty easy ride against him in aerial duals. Now Razor on the other hand......that would be quite a different proposition.
I'm not saying it would always work and may lead to a rather, unattractive route one approach at times but, if JM doesn't want to upset the Kelly/judge partnership, he maybe needs at least to consider the Razor-up-front option !

Says in today's Observer that Razor is not yet back at the club. I hope he does resign for us and think he still has a future with us now and in the long term. He should come back stronger after this set back. He is a good coach with the junior sides he has been with and I think he can learn from John and Terry and when he hangs his boots up can re-start his managerial career.

For all Ben and Sean's efforts this season we still need cover at centre back as suspensions and injuries begin to bite and as JM says in the paper Razor is a good player.

The bit in the paper today seems mostly the same words as what was said at the fans forum tbh in so much that he is still 2 weeks or so from full fitness and they will look at it then, pretty much what we knew already.

JM also says no need to change CB pairing at present, so where does Sean fit in apart from that dugout thing.

Just as CB cover on bench initially but no guarantee that both CB's will retain form, fitness or remain free of suspension for the long term.

Will be a great option as required.

I am really surprised people keep asking where Sean will fit in. We will be incredibly fortunate and lucky if Judge or Kelly do not pick up injuries or suspensions during the season. And do we want these guys playing in Sussex and Ryman cup games? Even if we get knocked out of every cup competition from now we still have over 50 games in the season and lets not forget how old Ben is. And who's to say Judge or Kelly may not encounter a bad spell of form themselves. Jono is an option at CB but who better than Sean to come in if required at this level? Get Sean signed up and committed, a striker and a wide man then I believe we can go straight back up.

Absolutely right johnw. We should welcome him in ASAP; he is still as good as or better than either of our present Central Defenders (Remember his MOM in the latter matches in the FA Cup last season). Also, as was said in earlier posts, he is capable of giving us other possible options, eg up front, or as a third Central Defender in a 3,5,2 or 3,4,3 structure.
