It will be a test to play against nr 3 in the table now : Hythe Town.

They have one star player: Dave Cook,,midfield, Captain, age 29,Appearances 2012/13 - 47, Goals - 28 ;Winner of the Ryman South Golden Boot for the 2012/13 season . He has been Hythe’s leading goalscorer in four of the last five seasons. They won 2 games and drew 2. Goaldiff  9-4with Cook 5 times scoring!

So hopefully we get a good result against a strong side.

They are not that good, if we are looking at top 5 we should be capable of coming away with something.

Have you seen them play Chris? They're a good side and tomorrow will be one of our hardest league games this season. I'd be happy with a point there tomorrow but willingly accept all 3. Sean tried to sign Cook but I believe his Father is Assistant manager and when all said and done bloods thicker than water.

Yeah but it was the first game of the season. I agree we need to be confident of winning against all sides but they're a good side I watched them last season and were a very capable side. This won't be a walk in the park at all.

and don't forget they were in the play offs last season, stopping cook will be a good test for our back four who I think are our strongest position so far and don't think jono should step straight back in imo .

Agree they've done nothing wrong although possibly could come in at LB as that looks like the one position of the back 5 that's not pretty solid yet ( yes I know he wasn't great there last season but at this level I'd hope he'd be fine )

Funny how we all discuss and look forward to our trip to Hythe Town tomorrow whilst Crawley Town go to Molineux tonight to take on Wolves. April 2003 we drew 0-0 at home to them in the old Southern Premier. How times change.

Council, owners, prepared to back a side in Crawley, don't think same applies in Hastings

All this council want is to grab as much money as possible from us hence now having to find another £4000 per year for rates whilst The White Rock gets subsidised all the way.
They don't even give anything to kids football, the average pitch fee for kids 11 aside football is around £600 per season in Eastbourne they waive the fees for any kids football clubs.

Good point Barry. The supporters team have played 4 times in the past 2 weeks. Each time we play at Bulverhythe we have to pay £57.50 for pitch hire (the council don't even supply nets anymore) and £26 for a ref. So in the past 2 weeks our team and opponents have had to fork out £334 for 4 games of football.

So here we are, again coming up to another tough opposition. It's good that we look strong defensively and hardly look like conceding. But for how long can we withstand all this pressure. We still need a proven goal scorer as I don't believe kenny is good enough to bring us in 20+ goals as the same with Adams and crone. Although I do always say you should never change a winning team we did for burgess hill?

John its ridiculous mate, the very minimum they should provide is nets! I'd complain mate although they will be up soon as the leagues gradually get under way. May pay for one of the SC team look into taking a refs course, the Fa refund you after you've officiated a certain number of games and on top of that they could earn a few quid for a few hours work over the weekends.

New rules brought in by the council this year to stop teams using council pitches for free. They no longer supply or put up any nets in town. All teams in East Sussex now have to provide there own nets.

Its the people of Hastings who vote them in, or don't vote, so you reap what you sow. Unfortunately i don't live in Hastings, but considering what Eastbourne does for sport, Hastings is really put to shame.

And how I still had pleasure at seeing them lose to Wolves in the last minute after they thought they had pulled it back ,,,,even after all these years, still enemy No 1 !!!!

What I don't understand is that the Leader of Hastings Borough council is quite often seen at the Pilot Field, and even though he is a supporter, the council still do very little for us.

Councils are facing tough times with central government grants being substantially cut and council tax frozen so presumably he sees the council's responsibilities as being much wider than football when essential services are struggling for funding. That doesn't explain Lenny's point of why they can keep finding the money to plough into the White Rock theatre, It would be nice to see some of that put into local football.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of the current ownership set-up at United, I doubt any council of any political persuasion anytime soon is going to be putting money into what they would argue is an autocratic, private business. Whether this would change if it were a community owned club is anybody's guess, possibly from a Labour controlled council, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

John, I couldn't help thinking about this either. Windy, if its any consolation, my sister-in-law's boyfriend is a Crawley fan, he says he much preferred the old non-league days and he doesn't go much anymore. Although one of our big rivals, I could never generate the same feelings for Crawley as I had for Dover. Our play-off win at the Crabble is hard to equal but another fond memory I have is when we drew 1-1 with them at home in a Christmas game with Rhys Wyborne scoring a very late looping header equaliser silencing their big following complete with fat bloke with a drum. What made it all the more sweet was they had absolutely battered us the whole game and us nicking a point was practically crime of the century. I completely lost it.....

I also think we should have a greater rivalry with Eastbourne Borough than we have. I have never forgiven them for thrashing us 3-0 at the Pilot Field in the FA Trophy, making my son cry and forcing me to supress a primeval urge to commit acts of mayhem while I sat in the stand surrounded by loads of happy Borough fans.

Interesting observations, guys.
As a Wolves fan, the fact that they were taking on our old rivals, Crawley, certainly touched a nerve regarding the relative fortune of the two Sussex clubs (not to mention the plight of the mighty Wolves, of course!)
I'd also agree that the play-off victory at Dover was one of our GREAT victories in recent times....particularly as they had battered us TWICE that season, once at Christmas and then on Easter Monday. (Surely the Boxing Day equaliser was from Kevin Rose, wasn't it ?)
Must dash...... Got a little drive along the coast to do !

Just on the way back from a very wet afternoon at hythe. First half a complete write off very poor and felt we was lucky to be only 1-0 down. Second half much better especially with the introduction of kenny pogue and jordan woodley who both worked hard. Team looked far more dangerous and was rewarded with 2 goals. Think Kenny must start next game?

don't know about Kenny starting always thought he is better coming on as a sub always seems more affective even when he was with us last time, and with 2 goals point proven

Lots of rumors at the ground today that the new manager has now been appointed and if that was Terry's last game in charge he certainly finished on a high note. For an hour today Hastings were poor at best and very fortunate to be only one down after a couple of glaring misses and two goals disallowed, but just after the hour Terry threw on Kenny and Jordan for the very disappointing and ineffective Matt Mclean and Timmy. From then on Hastings dominated with both players causing all kinds of problems for the home team and we deservedly equalized in the 72nd minute after Kenny bundled the ball over the line after a goalmouth scramble. We continued to dominate after this and in the last minute a fantastic ball across the area (I think it was Jordan) and Kenny slid in for a great winner in front of another great Hastings following behind the goal.

The performance was still not great today but they showed a fantastic, never say die attitude in that last half hour. Ben Judge was immense yet again today but you cant really look any further than Kenny for MOM as he completely turned the game when he came on.

Why should Terry not get the job?? And has the name been released or do we know who we think the new manager will be ??

Agreed...for an hour we were pretty hopeless with Tim, Matt and Jamie all appearing to be totally devoid of any creative ideas. We could easily have been two down or worse at half time and only threatened a couple of times in a very poor first period.
The substitutions did seem to make the differences and, credit where it's due, well done Kenny for twice being in the right place. However I felt the turn round was far more to do with people like Danny and Sam suddenly getting the ball in more telling areas and with a bit more space as the game got stretched.
Personally I'd keep Kenny as sub and give Jordan a starting place on Monday. I honestly don't think we really know what our best formation is yet.....all I know is what started today was totally ineffectual.
So...yet again....somehow we got a result from what was really a pretty average overall performance.
Second in the table, 13 points from 15, and from what I've seen and read....we still haven't actually played that well yet.
Quite hard to know what to make of this league !

If the new manager is the name being bandied about this afternoon it's a very strange appointment indeed.

Enjoyable game at Hythe, with Hastings having a bit of good fortune not to go 2-0 down. Hastings then finished the game the strongest with the last 20 minutes being the most impressive. Hopefully our fitness levels will be better than other sides although I thought Tim and Jordan struggled a bit with their fitness today. Surprised with how ineffective Hythe's leading scorer was- he hardly got in the game.

First game ive seen this season and must say how pleasantly surprised i was after reading this forum i was expecting the worst as it appears that there has been much gloom and doom reported..how wrong i was..thought the second half was particularly entertaining...credit to hythe whose goal was a peach giving any keeper no hope.....cant believe so called supporters are still moaning after getting 13 from 15 points...well done to terry and team for a great start to the season.

surprise we got 3 points today and  a massive diffence between prem and south. hythe were nothing special, a bit older and wiser and tired at the end. if we could learn to pass the ball we would make the game easy but frustrating how many time we give ball away or dont complete pass. if we pass better hythe would have tired more quickly to. well done kenny for the goals but think the youngster in middle )darby?) was best of our players today. dont think the subs had much difference on the game think it was more hythe fitness allowed us to dominate last quarter.

i heard someone say terry white will be new manager, not sure that would be good still think needexpereience manager with contacts cos we are not good enough to win league but with what we have will finish above half way and probably near play off. the qality in this league is really poor thankfully

Peter are you serious, subs made all the difference one scored both goals, the other gave us someone who could pass.

I've never considered myself a moaner, more a realist, and fully acknowledge that in terms of results everything seems to be going to plan.
But I honestly think you sometimes have to put aside the result and examine the overall performance; i.e. the chances created, defensive solidity, passing ability, movement etc etc to truly assess your prospects for the season. The point is I have seen three wins (2 at home & at Hythe) and all have been decided by a single goal and the break of the ball in the goal area. On another day points could have been dropped in all three matches. Overall I think we have relied on our opponents to miss chances and for us to sneak a goal or two......plus a good deal of midfield attrition.
I KNOW we're not going to totally dominate matches but I would feel happier if our victories had come in just slightly more convincing circumstances....simply because the performances I have witnessed to date will NOT continue to bring us victories.
Yes, it's great to be winning when you're not playing that well and this start has given us a great base to built for a promotion push....but over the next five league games I feel we must look to improve our overall creativity and cohesive team play. We may not collect as many points but I think it's important that we look to identify our best formation and put together some decent 90 minute performances.
Then and only then will the realists start to believe.

Second game I've seen and I can see what people mean. Defence looks good but could do with midfield and up front strengthening?

Nice to get a result like that at a place where we got repeatedly beaten back in Hythe's "Mark Gardiner" days of the late 80s, early 90s when they had a guy chucking money around till he lost interest. Couple of Hastings Town players he snapped up for big bucks, Peter Heritage and one Terry White.

United looked good in spells yesterday and the second half was very promising and it was just rewards when Kenny Pogue equalised and a big bonus when he got that late winner.

Good to see Tommy "O" Osbourne at 5 for Hythe - he was a top man for us 10-11 years ago and didn't put a foot wrong in Hythe's defence. Good to see someone who's lost more hair than I have in that period.

Re manager - well, let's hope Terry is still involved whatever, whoever - he was initially appointed as coach anyway. We'll all know this coming week hopefully.

I think you have a point Mick. Right now 3 points is still 3 points, but we do seem to be having problems creating chances. Having said that, if we'd capitalized on the chances we had on Saturday we still might have struggled. Fortunately, some great goalkeeping and a couple of choice (albeit rather late) substitutions sealed it.
At the end of the day though, I'd rather we had an average game and won than had a great game and lost.
