Aside from Terry and Marks claim to it which ( if either would want it ) would depend on results in the next few games obviously then possible candidates ( not mine nessacarily ) in no particular order would be
Charlie Oatway ( unrealistic maybe but local and available )
John Lambert ( knows the club, good manager, has he got the contacts at the levels we require though? )
Mark Goldberg ( Unrealistic again probably, great contacts, possibility of Bradley returning, appears to like us as a club and gets on with DW but would he consider dropping 2 leagues?! )
Ben Judge ( was Crawley Town player manager once, before they became a league club, would imagine he has good contacts but do we need another player manager? )
Why would John Lambert want to return. He built a young, local side when he was last here, replacing Tony Dolby when he decided to step down. He then won the manager of the month award, in January if my memory serves me right, only to be sacked a month later and replaced with a returning Tony Dolby. And if he did return what contacts would he have that Sean doesn't? Although unfairly treated in the past it would certainly be a backward step for me to bring him back, although i'm sure he would be cheap!
Great debate!
I would take Lambert back, whether he wants to or not is another thing. Built a good side here before.
Oatway would be very good and is available.
I like the Bognor Regis fella Darin Killpatrick as his sides play great football.
In house why not see how Mark and Terry do, if they win the first three games they have to be considered. Would a new manager want to keep them?
What we need is a manager with good a rapport with players at this level, they must respect him and want to sign for Hastings, don't care if he gets on with the fans or not. I don't know who is available at present, but if the job is advertised I'm sure we will get some good applicants. Think we need to get away from the local manager as I doubt there is one good enough, though I don't know what Dean White is up to these days.
An interesting proposal for Dean White DW
We could benefit from stability . Perhaps someone inside the club. Someone who does not fall out with anybody, but brings peace and harmony in all that he does. Someone with brief managerial experience and has all matters about the club under his firm control and has great confidence. Step forward the other DW
Hadn't thought of Dean White...but what a good idea. Wonder if he's interested?
Of course a bit of deja vu here because the great Mark Gardener appointed Terry, only for Terry to immediately call on Dean. Could history repeat itself, I wonder ?
I'm sure Dean would have the contacts (Brighton, Gillingham) and good players would want to play for him...but I can't see DW agreeing to pay the sort money that Dean's players might ask....so it probably could never work.
But I can dream, can't I?
Can't honestly see John Lambert taking us anywhere particularly exciting, but as JohnW rightly says, he'd be cheap. Which is probably going to be the only factor in DW's decision. Can't think JL would be interested anyway.
Anyway good luck to the Us on Saturday......the big town club with the pub team ambition !
See you all on Monday !
John Maggs for me a manager of vast experienece and plenty of contacts. he was lined up for it last time but the chairman had his usual rush of blood and appointed Sean Ray
Agree Leon the new man must be given more of a free reign.
Get a well respected man in pay him the going rate and let him get in who he wants but not on silly money. Then let him get on with it. Otherwise we will be going through this process again later in the season or early next.
Forgot about John Maggs. He would be ideal and is very experienced. Whether or not he wants it would be another thing.
Whatever we feel about the club and the decision makers now is the time that they really can do the right thing with the appointment.
Please can it be a stable, experienced and well respected bloke. Our club is a big club, with great support and great history. This is a job that I hope will attract some very serious interest.
Get Deano back in there along with Terry. Remember him sticking with Hastings Town through thick and thin when times weren't good and he must have some good contacts. Any of you old uns recall his goal at Hythe in the FA Vase back in 89 was it?
I think we're all forgetting to respect everything Sean has done for the club! Yes bad timing for him to resign or get pushed away or whatever has happened but he still put time and effort for this club. I'm sure if he was to carry on he would have proved us all wrong with the squad he had assembled.
That's the frustrating thing, with the first 3 games we had wouldn't have been surprised to see us with at least 7 points so a incredible shock he has gone before that :(
I saw that the supporters meeting we didn't like him bringing in county players? What's wrong with that... I think Maclean, crone, Darby, pogue have all got the ability for rs. And with crone still gaining experience he's got the potential to play much higher. In my eyes anyway
think you better take those rose tinted glasses of your eyes then mate potential maybe, but would hope an experienced manager would want to bring in more experience to gain a foothold and blend in those young ones by not putting pressure on them to early, having said that I do think the likes of sam,ben bailo etc will be a great asset.
I think there's little doubt that our current squad is nowhere near good enough to get us promotion this season. A good well respected man just might be able to pick up,say, four players of genuine quality and then cherry pick from what we've got to give us a hope of at least being competitive in the league this season
Whatever happens I feel even a play off place may be beyond us..
We certainly need a definitive statement from the club to explain exactly what has gone on in the last few days.
I guess we're all feeling a bit betrayed by recent events.
Don't think I can ever recall a club losing (sacking?) it's manager three days before the season starts. Please can someone spill the beans !
So your saying no county players or you haters then dave? You don't have faith. Remember every footballer was once young and needs a chance to prove they are worthy. But on the other hand I agree with you, we do need a couple if players added with experience
Dean White all day long for me, but cant see it happening somehow, but you never know if DW gave him some of the money promised at end of last season and with his contacts we would be more than all right.
Wouldn't mind seeing Mark Goldberg in the hotseat, think that's be a good appointment, however, like Dan said, would be drop two leagues? He does have Bradley and either contacts, but I think it's unlikely.
I also know it's controversial, but I wouldn't mind seeing Tony Dolby return. I thought he was a good manager, but a turn of the worst saw him leave...

I'd like to see Mark come in at some level, spoke to him a number of times last year and seemed to speak really positively about the club, as well as being a genuinely nice guy. I agree that he might not drop down the levels to 'just' become manager, but a share-holding manager? Interesting...
Quite right, Glenn10. He does seem like a top guy and if he can come down and work for us, I'm pretty sure he'll have contacts to point us in the right direction, and bring Bradley back. As Dave Walters said in the Fans Forum, we're in a much better financial position than we've been in years. If Mark Goldberg can come and we can pay out...surely this can only bring good things?
However we don't want to blow all of our money within the first season and then be left struggling financially. DW said we've budgeted a loss - to be stable and to aim for promotion. Over-spending is a yes, silly spending is a no.
I wish people would stop going on about Bradley. He has signed for Dagenham & Redbridge in division 2 and you would not see him back whether Mark was in charge or not.
And I keep hearing the word "over spending". We have released 11 players from last season, all of whom were on decent wages. We have signed 3 or 4 replacements and brought in some county players. I know exactly what 2 of these guys are on, so please stop worrying about over spending. The wage bill is nothing like what it was last season.
Goldberg no chance, absolutely no chance. I like Liam's suggestion, why would it be controversial. Dolby produced a good side, narrowly missed the play off's, we even top at one point. Players played for him and his staff.
That won't happen either....stability and experience in Ryman League management is all I ask for!
Bradley didnt sign for Dagenham in the end John from what I gather, played a couple if preseason friendlies, did well but not enough to get signed, still a free agent from what I know.
Arsene Wenger doesn't seem to like spending money, so his appointment would suit him and the club. If he can't be tempted then would be good to have Dean White back supported by Terry and Mark. Agree with John about the over-spending, we clearly aren't and Sean has gone now too, presumably one of the higher wage earnners.
Rumors gathering pace, some from very dependable sources, that it could well be John Maggs and Terry White for the new management team. Be well happy with that!
Spotting potential managers sitting in the stand tonight could be a good game to play.....John Maggs would be a good choice, also hearing ex Dover Ath boss Nicky Forster has shown an interest.
Don't really want an outside manager coming down and managing us though, they will then bring outside players in and then this club won't be filled up with local players??
For me for his continued passion and determination I only want one man Mr Terry White from what I have seen he's Hastings through and through someone that cares for the club and will give 100%
For me Terry White and Mark Stapley are making a very good case for themselves. I feel for Razor as basically it's his team at the moment I and I dare say that if was still in charge we would have still won both those games. From what I have seen in the last two games it's a poor league.
However Sean resigned and Terry and Mark stepped in. The facts do not lie, played 2, won 2 and not conceded. The work ethic was there for all to see last night so why not take on punt on these guys?
You don't win promotions on the back of not having contacts and the ability to sign better players, I doubt Terry has that level of contacts and respect in the game. We need a manager with a proven track record at this level, Terry as number 2 fine, but not as manager.
That's a fair point ChrisB. I think to get a manager with a proven track record at this level at this stage of the season will be difficult. Any one any good would already be tied down anyway.
I do like your suggestion as Terry an No2 but most managers come with their own back room.
I just think with the start we have made, what's the rush? Or bring in someone to help Terry and Mark?

Taking nothing away from Terry, Mark and the team......but you often find on the back of a manager leaving, the caretaker team have a short term immediate positive impact and everyone pulls together as was the case when Razor and Mark did when taking over from Jason Hopkinson...... and thus results improve.....which we have seen in the first two games this season. Therefore we must not get side tracked that it is a long term fix that's needed.
Hastings is a big town and in my opinion should have and be aiming to have its Football Team playing in the Blue Square South, and therefore the club need to get someone in who has the potential to take them there.....someone experienced and proven.
Well said, Couldn't agree more RedorBlue but you will often find the caretaker team is by the far the cheapest option which is often the option this club likes to take.
Current duo haven't done themselves any harm with recent results but think Dean White would be regarded as a popular choice by many but he probably overqualified if that possible.
We here there has been a few applicants but if the club wants to move on they need to appoint a high profile manager who can attract players.
D white, Forster!!!
As Bandit and Pett have just mentioned Dean White has a good job jetsetting so not gonna be him by the look of it!
Nicky Forster?.... hmmm good striker in his day but not much experince as a manager really
This John Maggs guy that JohnW is talking about sounds about right to me with about 30 years of experience as a manager in Non League and outstanding connections with Crawley Town and sure many others too, seems to keep the excisting assitants on too when hes goes to clubs which is the least that Mark and Terry deserve after this start unless they get the big one themselves!
NF agree not much managerial experience but was at dover and Think with Local connections such a DW he will be able to attract players as think we still need a few players to be seriuos contenders for promotion, not sure if stays the way it is they can bring players in?
