I can confirm that despite being 61 and carrying a few extra pounds, that I am hoping to make the squad this season

Like Roger I am ready and willing to serve if called. I just hope that the physio can cope with two knackered knees and occasional bouts of gout.
Looking forward to news of signings, at the moment it is with hope not desperation.

I was going to sign as Goalkeeper but the Ryman league wont allow the goals to be widened . They said that we have to give the other side a chance.....

Ive spoken to a Thurrock board member on Twitter and basically Thurrock will take their appeal as high as they need to ( court of arbitration, Europe even ) which can take months and the owner has vowed that he will fold the club if they are forced to be relegated.

As I say above I think that FA has got this one massively wrong.

I actually think Thurrock have been very harshly treated if they do get relegated over it but on the other hand from a selfish point of view i would much rather have Sittingbourne in the league rather than Carshalton! ( Thurrock in Ryman North swapping with Sittingbourne )

I saw something yesterday that unless its sorted soon then the season may not kick off till October! A little over stated I feel but I do agree that unless its sorted soon there could be some kind of delay.

Can you enlighten us Lenny, what is the potential problem? It's bad enough that we don't have any news of signings without warnings of doom and gloom.

It's as Dan has explained above Santa, I did hear that a number of clubs have kicked up a fuss regards Guernseys inclusion into the league, they are claiming that away midweek games would mean players missing 2 days work and would be reluctant to commit to playing away fixtures. Never heard of such a commotion. I reckon because of the implications of kicking off the season unbelievably late that Thurrock will get a reprieve but does that mean Carshalton will launch an appeal of their own? Oh dear my brain hurts on this one!

To be fair to Carshalton their attitude seems to be that they are down unless told otherwise, cant see them appealing if Thurrock win, wonder how we would would have reacted on here though if it had been us in Carshaltons place! lol

I'm very glad we're not in Carshalton's position either with regard to their uncertainty concerning which league they might be in; or in respect of their reported financial problems.

Whilst I know that there is a bit of romance about Guernsey joining the league _ it was bound to bring up those sort of issues. Having said that, the league they have come out of must have had similar issues so why should the Ryman league be any different. (i'm assuming they were in a mainland league before)
In regards to Thurrock - all a bit strange. It would be almost unprecedented for a club to delay the start of the season for that length of time surely? Looking at the nuts and bolts it does seem that they were harshly treated. If this kind of thing happened in the Premier league it would have been sorted by now!

When do the Cup draws come out BTW?

Vickers has signed for Lewes..... Less worried about this than Lee Carey leaving personally especially as he has got a 7 match ban already and is sure to pick up a few more!

Would be nice to hear some new faces joining soon though.

Tim,
I am TRYING to enjoy a holiday but posts like that aren't helping !
On a more serious note I was a decent player 30 years ago ( I once helped shut out Peter Heritage in a Demarco cup final) and so long as I can keep my inhaler close to hand could provide useful cover in defence come the new season. Reckon I could keep up with any Ryman South winger...... well, providing they suffered with arthritis like me.

Dont forget Josh Pelling too John, should be solid enough in goal at least, assume Matt AF will be back too

Expect there will be a few unanounuced trialists playing in the early friendlies,

I remember going to Westfield away last season and seeing Elliott Cox and Dee Okojie ( Alongside others like Alex Howell ) appearing without any prior warning so decent players can still be picked up once friendlies start. We didnt know that Bradley Goldberg had resigned until about 3 friendlies in too.

Its is understandably a worrying time when you see Lewes making lots of signings but there is still time to get a squad sorted.

I always wonder what happened to Jamal Willer the other Charlton player we had on loan the season before at the same time as Bradley as he looked the better player imo full of direct running and step overs .

Mick-this report about Vickers was on the Lewes forum and like all our posts is not official. However, it is good news that you are raring to go for the new season. My worst moment came when I was asked to stop playing for our veterans team as I was considered too old.

Its on the Lewes website now Tim and has definately happened.

Plenty of players taking part in pre-season training though and we've still got a month till the start of the season so although i'm as twitchy as anyone about the lack of signings ( Keep pressing refresh on the website 50 times a day! ) maybe we are still worrying a bit too much about nothing being on paper yet.

Merstham on the other hand signed 14 players yesterday ( inlcluding Aaron Rhule who played for us against Lewes away ) and think thats probably a bit too much at once! plus they have got Adrian Stone there too!....

I do wish I had everyone elses confidence and patience. We have now lost all but 6 of last years squad (Razor, Bailo, Sam, Jono,Danny and Judge) Two of these are suspended for the first 3/4 games. Bailo is not always available because of work commitments, unless this has now changed and all we have added is a county league player and Tim Olorunda. Our first pre season friendly is just 6 days away. Don't  think its a joke anymore that the likes of Mick, Tim and Pat could be turning out for us! We have to have 6 or 7 new signings coming in over the next few weeks. PLEASE!!!

I would've liked to see Ross Treleavan back with us, but we are in need of a consistent goal scorer and if we can find one of those, we can stand a good chance of the play-offs or better. I remember Jamal Willer now you come to mention it Dan, just seemed to disappear.

I'm looking forward to seeing all of the trialists that will be given the go-ahead for friendlies and see how they develop through.

Dan and Liam's posts above are re-assuring; but like John, I am now beginning to feel a degree of real anxiety, Not so much that we won't have a squad, but more that we might have missed the boat with useful players who might have joined (or re-signed). The really worst option though would be for the club to panic and engage indifferent, or 'past it', or 'turn up the money', mercenary players on inflated wages. Better to have young trialists with raw talent and real enthusiasm and look to develope those with the (I think) reasonable but limited nucleus of experienced players we have thus far.

Good points Geoff. As to the keepers I cannot see either Josh Pelling or Matt wanting to be sub every week. I'm assuming its either one or the other.

I see where you're coming from Tim, but I'd rather always have a spare keeper on the bench rather than have the dilemme we faced last season away at Lewes when Sam Adams had to go between the sticks. Hope we have better luck with our keepers this season though!

To be fair Mick only 9 players have been announced yet so it's going to lack a bit of depth at the mo :) However we can only judge the quality of the squad once Sean has confirmed who he will be signing out of the more than adequate sized group of 22 who are currently in Preseason training. I'm sure there are some good players that will end up on our books next season. He wont want to announce them until he's sure they fit his plans which is sensible. ( But not headline grabbing )

I am disappointed that so many of last seasons squad have been lured away but I suppose it was always quite likely that they would want to remain at Ryman Prem level if they can.

In short as we have only 9 players announced it is certainly too early to judge the squad as a whole, individual players can be judged of course and that's up to individuals to decide what they make of them.

Although having the majority of the signings from county league would almost certainly be worrying I think that taking the best players who stand out is no problem as its only 1 step below and it's well within the abilities of someone like Natt McLean to perform to Ryman South standard and above as he is a more mature and better player now than when he was last with us. If he can get a third if the goals from midfield that he did last season one division below then he would still have more than our entire midfield from last year!

For what it's worth I would still take Andy Atkins as well as he is a tall. powerful target man who although at Rye now has played at Conference Premier and Conference South level within the last few years and scored 30 goals last year too. Would give us a 'Mikkel Suarez' like presence up front.

Apologies for my recent post...I must take more water with it. I am genuinely concerned that the squad at present is a way short in both quality and reserve depth to make any impression on the league this season. I hope I'm wrong but I don't feel the gulf between Ryman South and Ryman Premier is that great and we currently look rather weaker than we did a year ago. I don't feel a relegation can EVER be for the best because inevitably good players will leave. So it has proved this time around and so we enter yet another period of gradual rebuilding based on youth. On a more positive note, let's hope that we do end up with a team we really want to get behind this season because there are loads more easily accessible away grounds and it will be good to have a few more well supported away days like at Lewes. Anticipation of the new season is slowly beginning to seep through my veins !

I am not bothered by the fact that these players have left as most let us down badly last year, either with discipline, attitude or lack of ability. However, we do need some players and with friendlies starting its essential it happens soon as if we are to do well we need to make a good start, as there will be a lot more league games early in the season now we have 46 to play. Only time will tell but I do question whether the lure of the current Hastings regime is right to attract the players we need.

I say good riddons to all who have left, I hope they dont ever come back, as for them thinking they should be playing in the Ryman Premier, well they are the ones that put us in the Ryman South, with their, could`nt care less attitude, s.. off and dont come back. As for going up this season, no way, I am preparing for a couple of years in the south, but I`m dont mind, we will return much better for it. I can wait.

If our new players from the trials start to initially impress and our new signings can bring in some skill and a degree of usefeulness, we can hopefully get a couple of wins under our belt and tha should generate a degree of confidence with everyone, especially the fans. It's hard for a club to win back some of the fans if they have made a controversial decision, when ChrisB said he wasn't speaking until Ray was out, well. But if we get a couple of wins behind us, I'm hoping confidence will be generated.

In regards to Pat's post, it would be nice to get a couple of wins in cup competitions but I think the league has priority, it certainly does have my priority anyway. Get a couple of wins in the first games, generate that confidence and build up.
