For those of you not able to attend the game tonight, the result will have been far more disappointing as you will have missed a spirited performance from a Team which many have written off! It was indeed disappointing to, yet again, largely outplay the opposition (as we have done in most of the recent games) and come away without anything to show for it!
The Tom Vickers red card was entirely deserved. Thoughtless and shameful behaviour . . . . Our very own Suarez-like incident! He has let himself, the Team and the Club down on this occasion. A real shame as he is a young and talented player.
The overall performance was encouraging. I will largely refrain from making any negative remarks about individual players, particularly since there were encouraging performances from most of them, but instead highlight some of the positives which may possibly be used to our benefit in the remaining two games.
We were without Jack Dixon tonight and his energy in midfield was sorely missed. I presume that it may have been work commitments keeping him out of the game as he was not a named Substitute either.
Freddie Warren made an instant impact following his late introduction. From what I have seen of him, he might be more gainfully employed from the outset. He possesses qualities which could prove advantageous in the remaining games.
I believe that Elliott Cox was injured and only able to make the substitutes bench. His driving play down the right flank will hopefully be available to us in the remaining two games.
If we can return to our passing game of earlier in the season and eradicate the desire to go for the 'Hollywood' strikes from distance, overly employed in recent games, we will create better scoring chances.
if we can take even 50% of these, we will score enough goals to get the results we require, but only if we are better organised from free kicks and corners into the box too!
